Windows 7 Download Center working in Safari

Hey, I dont wether it was just me or most people, but whenever I get to the download page for windows 7 beta, it has the product key, and download link.

In Safari, when clicking the download link, it does nothing, whereas in Internet Explorer it does. I managed to get it downloading without cutting out in Safari on OSX by doing this:

1. Goto either of these links:
32-bit: https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/productkeys/win7-32/enus/default.aspx
64-bit: https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/scripts/gcs.aspx?Product=tn-win7-64-ww&LCID=1033

Now Im cant quite remember as I only opened the file today realizing it worked. I think I right-clicked the download button from the page above and saved it, then opened it. Play around, but when i opened that file it launched the download manager and downloaded the windows 7 beta perfectly in Safari OSX without cutting out. Hope you manage to find it out.

I used IE 7 on my Vista bootcamp partition to do it.

Unsurprisingly, I don't think Safari Mac is high up on the list of of Microsoft's browsers to support.

Hi,

Did you get past the keyboard problem to get this installed??? How did you do it???

Help! I downloaded both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions from Microsoft's site. Only thing to do was burn the ISO to disc (DVD). I was using the 64-bit disc and booted from it. It immediately ran up the following:

1.
2.
select cd-rom boot type:

<end>
my keyboard wouldn't type anything and I ended up rebooting. I tried booting from the EFI Boot and the Windows options when you hold down option key during boot. Both of those options turned up the above message. What did I do wrong?

Microsoft will stop officially bundling applications such as these into Windows 7. They have also dropped an email application too. Information about this can all be found on microsoft.com and it appears to be intentional and NOT just the BETA.

Again it clearly is to appease the anti-trust regulators. There are improvements though, at least windows media centre can now playback a DVD without having to install optional codecs / dvd decoder.

Yea thats kind of nice. I can understand that they cant bundle them with the OS. But honestly, theres no point in the live downloads. All of them suck.

I guess Im used to the way apple does it. When you buy the computer, you get the ilife suite with it, and ilife is actually worth something. moviemaker on XP sucked, on vista it was a bit better, on 7, you literally cant do ANYTHING. thats really the only program i care about. i do a lot of video work. granted, on my mac ive got the choices of imovie or premiere :) but its sad that Microsoft has no programs that they make that are actually worth using.

"Page Fault in Non-Paged Area"?? Windows BSOD on install

I'm trying to install 7 in a bootcamp partition on my 2.4 Black Macbook. The install process starts, gets to where the initial files finish loading and the window graphic appears, then I get the blue screen of death with the error listed in the title. I'm using an official MS-downloaded copy. Any ideas? I tried to unpartition and re-partition, but I don't think I've even got that far in the install process for it to matter.

I cant seem to get the "glassy" effect ......everything looks like classic windows toolbars, in vista the aero style interface worked.......

Will vidias drivers from there website work, mabe better than the ones off my MB install dvd ?

Try going to
>>Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Performance Information and Tools

On the left select "Adjust Visual Effects"

Also, click Rate this computer to get your Windows Experience Index base score. It will tell you if the MacBook can use the Aero features. I ran it on my MBP and then was able to get the Aero stuff working correctly.

Edit: Tallest Skil is correct, it will only work in Boot Camp. VMWare doesn't support Aero in Vista or Win7. Parallels may, but I don't have it.

Can you clarify your process? Still can't get this to work...thinking about installing the 64bit version on my unibody macbook because can't get the 32bit to work. all i want to do is be able to watch blu-rays! :p

Hey, I was using the 64-bit install disc when that occurred. The 32-bit version went on smoothly (I did not get that error). I'm not sure about 64-bit, but the drivers on my Boot Camp disc installed perfectly, just the bluetooth has problems and the sound doesn't work. Downloading the drivers off the Realtek site (or Rapidshare since their download speed cap is 8Kb) and installing them works.

Have downloaded both 32 and 64 bit windows 7 for my MacBook (Intel Core 2 Duo 2,4 GHz, early 2008)

I guess the processor in my Mac is 64 bit, or?
So, what is the verdict? 32 or 64 bit W7 for me?

I have the beta installed on my aluminum MacBook and most things are working okay. I can't get the eject button to work for some reason and I can't get my bluetooth apple keyboard or mighty mouse to connect. Is anyone else having bluetooth issues?

If you are using the x86 version don't. The x64 version works better. I had it installed and it ran without problems.

My MacBook was released Late 07, and I got an error about "cd-rom boot type" when I tried to boot off the 64-bit disc and tried to install. 32-bit disc worked fine for me, so you shold probably try 64-bit, but if it doesn't work, 32-bit is fine too.

How did you get x64 to work? I keep getting an error about cd-rom boot types when I tried to boot off the 64-bit disc. My MacBook is 64-bit, Late 07, and only 32-bit works for me. So what model is yours [macbook]?

I'm wondering the same thing. :)

Perhaps the separate disk, making it optional, is the difference?

No.

Because Apple controls around 8% of the market as opposed to 90%.

No.

The reason is quite simple. Apple makes their own computers and they can do what they damn well like with them. There is not a general “Mac” market (well there was once, for a ill fated time during the 90s).

There is however a general PC market. OEMs should be able to pick and choose what they want on their PCs, not Microsoft. A lot of the problem was Microsoft used to give PC makers contracts which said: “you can bundle Winodws and only Windows with your computers”. `This is why their actions are closely scrutinised by courts.

Apple has never forced their operating system software onto anyone else's machines, they make their software for their machines and devices only. That's their choice, they now control the top 4% of the world's computer market and have juicy fat margins.

It's a little bad for Microsoft, because they can't control the Windows experience as well as they'd probably like, but I'm certainly not going to shed any tears for them, they made a lot of money pursuing the model they chose and become very successful.

Having an OS not come with an email app is silly though. What will probably happen is all OEMs will bundle the Live Essentials.

Anyone managed to get it working via bootcamp on an older MacPro 2.66 with 7300 gt. All I get is a blue stop screen caused by the nvidia driver.

I have manually removed the nvidia driver which then lets it boot but leaves it stuck with the generic low res driver.

Same blue stop screen occurs with the driver from ms update and various drivers from nvidias site (inc beta) ?

@Jaw (i forgot to multi quote you, sorry)
That doesnt really explain anything. If i understand all of this, MS is getting themselves in trouble by including apps that arent a crucial part of the OS, which is the same thing apple does. So you are saying that a company can do anything they want as long as their market share is low enough? That doesnt quite seem right. Nobody is forcing you to use Live Mail, Windows Movie Maker, Windows Live Messenger just like nobody is forcing you to use Apple Mail, iChat, i(insert program name here).

Apple has never forced their operating system software onto anyone else's machines

No, but they do quite the opposite and force their hardware along with their OS.

In other news (idk if i said this here before), i installed Windows 7 x64 natively and it recognized all of my hardware right away. No driver cd or anything. Note that this wasnt on a mac, so ymmv. I was quite impressed with that. The jump lists are incredible, window management is the best out of any OS i have tried ever, and overall its just a joy to use. If i didnt have Leo installed here with all of my apps already set up on it i would be using Win7 as my main OS instead of just for games.

In case some people are still having problems with bluetooth on Windows 7, I resolved the issues on my Intel C2D white iMac, though it should work for anyone.
What I did was install the Boot Camp drivers from my Leopard DVD and patched to 2.1 (not sure whether it's necessary) and, from the "Add Devices" window, right-clicked on my device and chose Properties (or what ever it's named, I'm on Leopard now), from there I ticked the box in front of the only "service" it showed there and clicked OK. Then I just click the button to connect with my device and Windows 7 downloaded the necessary drivers. And that's it. Hope it helps.

I'm liking the new Windows, but Mac OS X will still be my primary OS, you just can't beat it. Still nice to see that the folks at Redmond are trying to make a decent OS.

Anyone play any games on windows 7, does it give you a boast in FPS?

ChrisN

I tried WoW with Windows 7 on my iMac with max settings and it was not running smoothly, I tried max settings on leopard and it run better then windows so it may be my graphics card or windows 7.
