Microsoft a monopoly???? The only reason that you see PC vendors not offering any other OS to the consumer is because there is no other viable option for most costumers. Linux can be pretty powerful too, but it is far from being accessible for anyone. And that whole European Union stuff is crap in my opinion. They criticize Microsoft for bundling Media Player and IE with their OS, but why shouldn't they??? It just gives more functionality to the end user, and they're not preventing the customer in anyway for installing Firefox or any other software they want. Apple does exactly the same thing in OSX, hell they do the same with their computers, which they bundle with OSX, iTunes, Safari, etc. Should the European Union or the US courts do anything to them?? Of course not, because that's part of the user experience Apple and Microsoft are offering, and users are free to obtain other software options if they want besides the ones that already come with the OS.

For the record, I use Windows 7 on a daily basis, and I think it is a great improvement over Vista. Still needs some polishing, but I'm sure they'll have an amazing product by the time it hits RTM.

Please, if you don't understand the EU controversy, dont talk about it as if you do.

And in what way did it seem that I didn't understand it genius?
Whats with the sarcastic insult? Its just clear to me that you don't have a good understanding of it other than the bare basics.

Consider Vista the "Cheetah" release of a new architecture and Windows 7 its Puma/Jaguar/Panther release or whatever.

I like this analogy. Cheetah was just a pretty interface; if you needed to actually do something OS 9 was still there.
Puma was the first useful flavor of OSX.

I've used the Windows 7 beta and it works nicely until you try something that requires a non-existent driver. But that's why it's a beta.

Well, if you are stating that someone doesn't understand anything, at least you should explain why, don't you think? Isn't it the whole point of these kind of forums to read about other users opinion even if it differs from my own? In that case then your post didn't contribute much. It's obvious that you differ, but don't know why.

I can't stand the guy in the video...so annoying!

And to be honest, I don't know how much he really knows about OS X, it just sounds like he's repeating.

I hate M$ - well, Windows at least - but I have sound reason based on experience.

I can't see 'mindless sheep'-like posts that don't give a fair representation of both sides. I mean, it can easily be one-sided if you have bad experiences with M$ but at least make an effort to be nonprejudicial.

Even though he's very biased, he's correct.
I've seen his videos in the past, and the majority of the time he's right and backs up everything he says.

Are you serious? That kid just criticizes EVERYTHING he sees in Windows. I'd love to go and switch his OSX machine with a Windows one and see what he does.

Ok, he doesn't like anything, he's titled to an opinion. And there wasn't anything wrong with the icons in Vista, in 7 they should have kept them the same instead of making them huge.

And about the second part of your post... I'm being dead serious here, if you switched his Mac Pro or MacBook Pro with a PC, especially an Alienware, he would burn it, find you, then probably make you wish you never did that.

Emeek should join MacRumors!

I don't think they changed the size of the icons, and those things can usually be changed by the user even if they did.

I love Apple, but I hate stupid fanboys like emeek.

Vista is still an overall loss, but it's much more stable now than its release. In my everyday use I haven't encountered any more problems than one would face while running XP. And I'm really looking forward to Windows 7, hopefully Microsoft will fix some of the lingering stupidities with Vista.

Anyway the OP is just a troll, he just joined to tell us how much he hates Microsoft product without any valid argument. And the sad part about it is that we're feeding him, making his threads the most active in this forum. Blind fanboys to a company are really sad. Apple is doing things that are a lot worse than what Microsoft ever did with the iPhone and their Macs, but still they doesn't say anyone. If the anti monopoly laws apply to MS, then why shouldn't they apply to Apple. Laws should apply the same to everyone, regardless of what position you have in the market.

The over the top fanboys on both sides are equally annoying. And believe me, there are plenty of blind Microsoft loyalists out there as well that are just as biased.

Uh, the icons in 7 are the exact same size as they are in Vista, and that is the same size that they are in XP.

What this douchenozzle was refering to was the start menu buttons, and it seems a little ironic that he is critical of those, but not the size of the default Dock items.

Seriously, have you even used Windows 7?

Of course. Lol.
I have it one my two partitions on my computer, one of Vista and one is 7.
I don't criticize something before using it. And everything just seems... bigger.
And thanks to that video I realized something about the dock/taskbar, other than the fact it seems like Microsoft is trying to copy OS X. To me it just seems like it was put together like crap, it's 2-D, the icons on dock/taskbar are huge, and you can't make the dock/taskbar smaller.
One other thing he mentioned, the direct application icons, they are shortcuts. Like always. Microsoft is horrible as to where they put applications and the fact that everything is always all over the place. Damn shortcuts and no actual direct application launcher.

You're misinformed.

Nothing is bigger besides the default size of the taskbar, which in terms of raw pixels is smaller than the default size of the dock.

And it can be made smaller, and it can also be transformed back into the classic taskbar if you're not into the new method of application switching.

slimtaskbar.jpg

And the taskbar and the dock have very little in common other than they sit at the bottom of the screen. Arstechnica has a great article detailing on how the new taskbar and dock are completley different, and serve different purposes.

Windows 7 brings a brand-new Taskbar--and the familiar claim that Microsoft has copied Apple. This time, Redmond is accused of copying the Mac OS X Dock. Our in-depth examination finds that they're more different than they are the same. There's no clear winner, and both camps have plenty to learn from each other.
http://arstechnica.com/software/news/2009/01/dock-and-windows-7-taskbar.ars

And I have no clue what you are talking about "shortcuts", of course they're shortcuts. They're application links on the dock in OS X as well. Finally, Microsoft isn't "horrible as to where they put applications", if anything it's the application developers and ultimatley the users that determine where an application exists in the file structure.

Yes, having icons on this new dock will be much better than a cluttered desktop.

And, is that your own desktop picture? If it is, are you using an Apple Keyboard? I can't get print screen to work in 7. I got it to work in Vista with a driver released by Apple, but it doesn't work in 7 for some reason and it really bothers me, especially since Vista and 7 have the same terminal.

It's my own desktop, running on a 3 year old Thinkpad T60 that does have a print screen.

I haven't bothered with boot camp on my Mac Pro, but Windows 7 includes the "snipping tool" for taking screenshots.

Where is "snipping tool?" I haven't used 7 as much as I should because all my programs are on Vista and I'm too lazy to go and reinstall them.
I think it might just be a driver problem since the Apple Keyboard wasn't made to work on Windows.
