I never knew people felt so strongly about defending windows. I still think its junk pieced together through many years. It has out lived its uselessness and needs to be replaced. My whole life I have owned windows and they just keep stacking more and more onto it.

Its not about defending windows. Its about making a logical argument.

You knew you prefer OS X and the Air yet you get mad that the Windows machine you purchased wasn't what you wanted? Thats hardly the fault of an OS.

Your story is like ordering a hamburger and then saying "Why does this burger have meat in it! I'm a vegetarian! I'm never eating here again!"

Is it a chore? All you have to do is one of two things:

Use the "Windows Updates" feature, which will install the updates, including any finalized drivers (I wouldn't recommend this route for drivers but it works). Or simply go to the AMD website and download and install the drivers. Done. Simple. How is that a chore?

In theory. But in practice, I've had Windows Update install an AMD driver that messed up the system so badly (blue screens) that requires multiple reboots into Safe Mode to revert to a previously safe/known good driver. And even AMD downloads, if you follow instructions, its often recommended to uninstall the previous version completely and do a clean new install. Windows driver packaging leaves a ton to be desired, and the integration between Microsoft, AMD and hardware manufacturers of AMD cards leaves a ton to be desired.

I've probably lost days of my life to messing with Windows issues that required fixing and a lot of wasted time. All that is why OSX is much more appealing, less mucking around, and my time is precious to me. No Apple isn't perfect either, but never had a Mac break the way Windows does either.

Credit where credit's due, Windows 7 is a better operating system (than previous windows versions). Maybe even a good operating system.

I use Ubuntu now before i get my new air soon.

Recently i had to set up a wireless network with bridging through my parents house. I used their old vista laptop to do it. My god what a load of rubbish that was. I also used their main win7 PC and it is defiantly a lot more functional, quicker and more intuitive. I also used it on my laptop before installing Ubuntu and it was good but i found Ubuntu so much better.

However, Windows 8 won't suit me so i'm glad i will never get to experience it now i'm switching to macs. I have an xbox and this whole left to right / sideways scrolling thing makes me feel physically sick. I just can't look at the screen on my xbox. I hate it, with a passion. Now they are adding this tile based sideways scrolling home screen into windows 8 where you can control everything. Granted some of the features look nice but it's touch centric and the sideways thing just isn't for me.

My eyes can handle up and down but fast swiping and blurring left to right is like being on a round about ride, my eyes can't focus and think i'm ingesting toxins and make me feel sick. So there you have it, windows 8 makes me vomit.

Yes, they are "adding" the side scrolling interface, not replacing the existing one. That addition is to make it touch friendly for mobile devices. You'll still be able to use the classic Windows 7 interface in Windows 8 if you want to.

Windows 7 was the first time I haven't switched back to OLD Windows classic interface. XP/Vista all got reverted to classic. And now they're messing with it again? Why do they have to go spoil/mess up a good thing?

Windows based PC's are horrid if your need is to run Macintosh OS. Other than that they should be able to perform just as many functions as the Mac OS. Other than that everything is pure opinion.

I said classic windows 7, not classic windows, maybe I should have just left out classic I suppose. I explained why they're messing with it. To make it touch friendly, its a necessary ADDITION to make the OS more viable for tablet devices. If you like the current Windows 7 interface you've literally got nothing to worry about with Windows 8, it will still be there.

Apple is making OSX more touch friendly too, but its still designed to be touch friendly for computers (not tablets). Making Windows 8 with a tablet only focus seems a bit of a misstep... are we going to end up with another disaster like Vista was? The dual pronged approach Apple is taking, with similarities but discrete OS for different types of devices seems right.

I guess we can all remain on Windows 7 for a while if need be - maybe Windows 7 might live as long as XP did. I don't think Windows 7 is a bad release, so its a good one to keep around.

My wife owns a sony and its worse than the samsung. Its our only windows based pc and I have to use it for some programs. Its always downloading some update, fighting a virus, or locked up. I figured the samsung might be better because its I5, ssd, and ram. It really doesn't help with a OS that is pretty horrid.

I think the OP is just posting stuff like this to stir up something on the forums.

- downloading some update, to what, an app or the OS? You know you can change Windows Updates to however you want it, automated, attended, etc. An OS that wants to keep itself updated is not a bad thing. Windows is used on the great majority of computers globally, naturally it has a lot of attention, I don't see why a Windows user would not want to keep their system up-to-date.

- virus, everyone talks about this but I'm assuming you're referring to Win7, what virus are you referring to because I haven't heard of any significant virus for Win7 except for 1, and doesn't affect every Windows machine, it's very specific to how the system is configured.

- what is locking up, an App or Windows? I haven't seen a Windows lockup in many years, if you're talking about Apps locking up, it happens in OSX also. When apps locks up in Windows it's the fault of Windows, if an app locks up in OSX, it's not OSX's fault, it's the app's fault. Am I right?

- the Samsung Series 9 is actually quite a good machine, reviewed it a few months ago. The only thing I didn't like was the gesturing which I felt was better countered by using an external mouse, but it was quite good.

Did you read the whole post or just the part you quoted? What part of me saying the current interface will still exist in Windows 8 did you not understand exactly? or are you just being hard headed because you're bored?

If anything, the previews for windows 8 have been far more positive than the ones I've been reading for Lion. That's saying a lot considering Lion is essentially a finished product and Windows 8 is still early in development.
