I just did the pwning with a 2G iphone. Twice. My phone Icon only works for like 5 seconds and then crashes. Is there a detailed fix for that? Everything else works though.

I am not sure if i could help you out, but maybe because you have a 2G phone, it might make a difference....but i am not entirely sure. Was your phone previously jailbroken? This is the first that i've heard of this issue...

no, the phone I have has only been jailbreaked by me. I pwned it one more time your way and every thing is fine. Hopefully when I update it with my back up it won't do the again.

Hmmm...I am planning on getting a iPhone 3G anytime now and I have a few questions.

All my phone's functions will still work (calling, texting, youtube, etc)?
If down the road, a new firmware comes out....will I need to do something or can I just straight upgrade to the new firmware from a jailbroken ipod?

Thanks

I just repwned my iPhone 3G after upgrading to FW 2.1 but I am unsuccessful with restoring it from my backup with jailbroken apps. After doing so my iPhone just gets stuck in the Apple Logo of Death and hangs trying to load while vibrating every few seconds. iTunes fully recognizes it however and I can still SSH into the phone. Only problem is that it is stuck in the ALoD screen.

thanks so much for the guide I feel a lot more comfortable doing this, and i will give it a shot when I get out of class!

Yes, all of your iPhone functions will work as if it were not jailbroken.

As for the issue of updating with a new firmware, doing this results in the loss of the jailbreak, but there are ways to work around this. If your iPhone is jailbroken and you want to upgrade to newer firmware, follow this guide, as it has been proven to work well:

This guide details how to QuickPwn previously NON-JAILBROKEN firmware, so i have no personal experience with your situation. However, from the looks of things, your backup you made was from previously jailbroken firmware, in which case you need to follow this guide as well when updating an already jailbroken iPhone:

Can anyone tell me how to install boot logos, cause Quickpwn had a checkmark for Boot Logos, yet there was NO option from that screen forward.

Or perhaps a link on how to update boot logos after a Quickpwn, now that i'm done??

Thanks.

^^ I saw the option for the bootlogos ?? try again perhaps?

anyway, I did it and it worked great although it was a bit nerve racking.

the only problem I have is when I install an app from installer, the icons don't show up til after I fiddle around with cydia... doesn't make any sense, any ideas?

your only boot logo options when using Quickpwn are the stock images or the pwnapple and cartoon steve. if you want to be able to use custom boot logos, you have to use PwnageTool, not Quickpwn.

I made a video tutorial using QuickPwn 2.1 on my iPhone 3G. This might help some of you guys if you're looking for step by step instructions. I am on WinXP and my iPhone was updated to 2.1 firmware prior. Good luck!

Hey Iphoneincanada, great video and site, been there quite a few times myself :)

Your video is very helpful, however this tutorial was more along the lines of the little details for people with windows, and not just using the QuickPwn program itself and following the on-screen directions. But used in conjunction with each other, it could prove to be very useful for anyone looking to use QuickPwn to jailbreak 2.1.

update: my phone is the **** now! Followed the directions to the tee and everything works like a charm. Took me three and a half days and 4 restores and quickpwning but that only helped me.

You know step 9.
After quickpwn is done and iphone has rebooted, then i right click on iphone on itunes and 'restore from backup'? wont that just restore it back to normal, or will it still be jailbroken? im confuseeedd!

You can restore from a backup after jailbreaking, and it will NOT erase the jailbreak or Cydia/Installer.

I have an issue...

I quickpwn my iPhone last night. Everything worked fine except I cannot use the phone app, the app starts up and i can see the 0-9 keypad but cannot type; has anyone else had this problem.

I then restored my iPhone back to 2.1 firmware that is legit. The steps i did are as follows in case anyone needs to do the dame.
1.Plug iPhone in.
2.Open iTunes
3.Click Restore on the iPhone page
4.Went through each step
5.Restored iPhone
6. iPhone restarted and iTunes activated my phone.
7.Sycned my phone with iTunes. Took 2hrs for 1117 song, 1000+ photos and 15-20 apps.

I really want to jailbreak my phone again but I'm afraid that I wont have the phone ability again; any help?

Did you follow my instructions EXACTLY when jailbreaking for the first time, or did you follow your own method? If so, i can't be sure of what may have happened...many people have had success with the instructions i posted above, without experiencing the problem that you are having....wish i could help further...

thanks

okay i did everything you said except the restore to factory 2.1. I just redid it following your instructions and i am syncing right now and the phone worked! so thanks for your instructions.

cool

I tried to pwn and quickpwn my 2G iphone a few times before and each time it would hang and get stuck on the pineapple logo. Your tip to do a clean restore and run quickpwn on a barebone phone finally did the trick. Thanks!!

Glad it worked out for you, as that is one of the most common QuickPwning problems and some people probably don't realize it and instead give up trying to jailbreak... :)

BTW, a jailbreak newbie question... with the iphone pwn'ed, can I still sync and backup in iTunes?
Does the backup include jailbroken stuff or it's the same backup as if it's not jailbroken?

Thanks!

Yes, you can still sync and backup with iTunes and create fully usable backups. Technically, it includes both jb'd and non jb'd settings, as most of the jailbreaking community instructs users not to restore from a backup of a previously jailbroken phone on newer, jailbroken firmware, without first restoring. You can't just "upgrade" the firmware of a jailbroken phone and then restore from backup. You have to restore clean with stock firmware, re-pwn, THEN restore from backup as long as you have the same apps and such as the backup you're restoring with (for example, if you had 5 icon dock on your backup, install that on your newer jailbroken firmware first, then do the backup). When it's time to do a firmware update and you have to restore, you lose all your Cydia apps and settings, but they can be backed up with a program called AptBackup. Then, when you re-pwn fresh, newer firmware, you simply download AptBackup again from Cydia and it will reinstall all of your apps that you had before. You would then proceed to restore with your previous jailbroken backup, and you're good to go.

This is why it's important to have a CLEAN, NON-JAILBROKEN current firmware backup before you decide to jailbreak...just in case you decide to start fresh from stock, you have a clean backup to go from. But doing the same on jailbroken phones isn't any more or less messy, if you know what you're doing ;)

Extra Icons and Dock

Could you please let me know where you got the extra custom icons (post a link if possible) and custom dock. Those look awesome. I already have the bluebird theme, but I would like to get those other 2 items as well. Thanks a lot.
