Look at all you guys slobbering over your Windows update. Good to hear it's coming along nicely

If it wasn't such a huge update, we wouldn't be slobbering over it so much. :D

Some images, from my 1520 with Cortana and the settings allowed. Also a quick screenshot of the notification center.

I think VZW may be on the slower end of the spectrum given the track record with android.

With that said, if you get the developer preview which does not include any carrier firmware updates, can you still get those carrier updates or re-apply the "official" 8.1 update?

From what I understand all updates come from MS and not from carrier.

I would switch to WP but I use Google services and some of the apps I aren't there yet :(

Updates still need to go through the carrier because of firmware patches and what not. You can sign up for the developer preview which means you get it straight from MS however.

Nice comparison vid. I must say, cortana is pretty impressive. It didn't seem to skip a beat at all and edeged out both Google Now and Siri.

I can't let you guys have all the fun, now might be the time to jump on that icon/930 :)

I'm tempted to sell my 1520 for the 930. The 6" form factor really is a bit to big. The 930 is the perfect size.

I envy you Lloyd, if the 1520 was on Verizon, I would have gotten that Instead of the Note 3. Now if I do go Windows, I don't know whether to part with the Note 3 or iPhone 5s. I want to try a WP so badly but I've become so attached to both my devices.

My wife won't let me add another device so I have some decisions to make. Decisions decisions lol

Thanks for posting these! Those transparent tiles are very nice!

Is the 930 available yet in the US besides the Icon on Verizon?

Indeed, What's disappointing is how Siri hasn't been improved that much, hopefully with iOS8

I'm liking my Icon which the 930 is basically is for non VZW/US customers. I think the 1520 is just a tad too large, at least for my liking.

I haven't tried tethering yet, I'll give a status later today about that.

Did the double-tap to wake come with 8.1, or will we Icon users have to hope that it will come in the Cyan update?

I won't be able to update until later tonight.

No, unless I missed it, I believe its tied to glance and Nokia has stated that there's a hardware reason why its not there. So no glance means (from what I've read) no double tap. If will show up, it will occur when VZW issues a firmware update and not 8.1

I love the 6" screen but those sharp corners make the phone a bit unnecessarily difficult to effortlessly slide into a pocket. Also the back button on the left is a bit of the stretch for the thumb when holding the phone with one hand (if you're a righty), I really prefer it on the right side where it sits on my Note 2.

A followup to the 1520 but with the chassis design of the Icon would be great. And another software update offering the possibility to make the keyboard a bit more compact...damn that thing takes up a lot of that beautiful screen :(

I went through the registration process on my 521 and now waiting for an update.

I'm not sure what to expect, I know very little about 8.1. Maybe time for a new phone though! :)

Edit- OK, it is beginning to download now. I have full bars at my local library right now, maybe it will go quickly.

Depends on your download speed. I have 50mb/s download speeds and it still took me 45 minutes total (both the first download of the final 8.0 update which prepares the phone for 8.1 and the official 8.1 update).

I'm guessing you are probably close to done by now. And you will love the changes. Swipe keyboard, Android style notification center, Apple-esque parallax homescreen background, new camera updates to make things a bit easier when taking pics and so on...

Just as MaFlynn stated above, the Icon has been hampered by a supposed hardware limitation. Why Nokia did this, I have no clue. Seems a bit stupid to use a slightly different display tech from all their other phones.

the screen used on the Lumia Icon/930 lacks ‘display memory’. Long story short, in order for Glance to work, it needs display memory to maintain the information presented by the program.

My 520 is so snappy now! :D That is wow.

I'm updating my 520 now as well. Did you happen to notice if it has the option for 3 columns of tiles? Originally I heard that only 4.5" screens and above would get this option, then I read that all Nokia phones would have it. Can you confirm?

I was just going to post about it because I just came across it. FREAKING brilliant! :D Wow.

Awesome! Think I am going to go get a T-Mobile Micro-sim today for my 520. Pay as you go $30 for this phone as a nice small backup when I don't want to carry the 1520 around. :D

Really, really glad to hear they added 3 column support for smaller phones! Nokia and Microsoft have been really impressive lately. Mr. Nadella has turned Microsoft around from Ballmer.

On a side note, anyone else order the shirt Joe Belfiore was wearing at BUILD? I did, but they were sold out and backordered. Has the Cortana symbol on the front and #cortanacashhaveawesome on the back

The prelim just finished about 5 minutes ago. I just initiated the download for 8.1 so I figure it will be awhile.

I had the Icon but it was on contract and I got cold feet knowing about the App Store so I returned it. I do not think I would go $599 off contract and I will check into getting something else at least 4.5" if I like Windows 8.1. But the App Store still would rear its ugly head.
