You guys are really making me check out a Windows phone for the first time. These updates and the slick looking new interface has me intrigued.

I wonder what will be around in November here in the US besides the too large 1520. I stop at the Note 3 size and not sure I can make the jump to 6 inches.

The prelim just finished about 5 minutes ago. I just initiated the download for 8.1 so I figure it will be awhile.

I had the Icon but it was on contract and I got cold feet knowing about the App Store so I returned it. I do not think I would go $599 off contract and I will check into getting something else at least 4.5" if I like Windows 8.1. But the App Store still would rear its ugly head.

Don't think that is going to be a problem much longer. With no license fee for any Windows phone now and this new update (plus Microsoft now pushing hard for developers) I think we will see a lot of apps coming.

In fact, did anyone else notice you can now add Apple Passbook tickets and coupons to Windows Phone? Goes straight into the Wallet app! This is new!

Just go for a cheap off contract to get your feet wet.

This is one of the best forums I ever participated it but these folks will continue to keep costing us money!

Not worth $600 to dip your toes. Get a 925 off contract for under $250. If you have issues, sell it. Doubt you will lose any cash, especially after this update.

Still no Google Apps from Google though. You will have to use 3rd party developers to get your Google Apps, which sucks.

Set aside an hour of time. You have to go through 2 updates and they aren't fast.

No worries - I'll let it run while I'm setting up my new iPad Air. Should be a fun night sitting in the house, away from the cold cloudy weather with new tech.

Is it 5 o'clock yet?

Lucky you! I need to update to a newer iPad (with a crisp retina display.) Waiting for this years new models in Sept.

Ya - I use my rMini for just about everything, so I tend to keep it updated. I talked my wife into letting me pick up a refurb Air for around the house. Got some home automation things I want to try and it'd be nice to have the larger device every now and again.

Looking forward to the next release. I think a new rMini with TouchID and an A8 maxed out at 128GB LTE will last me a while.

Ta da! Third column tiles on the 520. :D

The update finished. :)

Anyone concerned about the low ram running 8.1 on the 520/521? How about the small screen?

Just as MaFlynn stated above, the Icon has been hampered by a supposed hardware limitation. Why Nokia did this, I have no clue. Seems a bit stupid to use a slightly different display tech from all their other phones.

The only reason I asked is that the double tap feature is listed in the Lumia 930 specs.

So, I am going to assume that it will come with the Cyan update (as the 930 has the exact same display and will be shipping with Cyan out of the box). But, I do understand that there is no hope for Glance, but that doesn't bother me all that much.

The first update is currently installing on my 520, I'm really excited to get 8.1 installed and try it out! Thanks Jessica for the updates on how it runs on your 520, it's really nice to hear that 8.1 runs even smoother than 8.0 did on our 520s.

I have the 520, like I posted above. It's a lot smoother than 8.0. I just played Big Bang, which choked a lot between levels, and there's no stuttering anymore. Same thing with Unity based games.

I just got Black - now when I try to get the 8.1 update, it says I'm all up to date....keep trying?

Edit: it's because I have an AT&T device....isn't it.

Did you sign up for the Developer Preview? Just get the app in the store if you haven't.

I have an AT&T 520 too.

I think so - which app?

Edit: got it - preview for devs. Anything else special I need to do after the update?
