Ya it's working. Just waiting for the install to finish.

You get it all loaded now? My 520 has become my fun little smartphone again. Think you are going to enjoy it more now, as I am. Put my Moto X away. :D

My 520 below. Love having a 3rd column on it. Makes a huge difference.

Nice - still installing. How do you do those transparent tiles?

Phone settings -> Start+Theme -> Then choose photo for background. And below that option will be an On/Off switch for "Show More Tiles" to add the 3rd row.

Microsoft added a bunch of stock background pictures to choose from, in case you don't have anything in your gallery at the moment.

Got it, thanks. Looks cool. Need to charge it up.

Anyone know if we can just swing by ATT for a new SIM if we want to start using mobile payments?

Battery life on my 520 with 8.1 is significantly worse than on 8. Even with "battery saver" enabled. I would lose about 10% over 8 hours in battery saver mode. Battery drain is now 10% in 2 hours.

I haven't checked on the battery yet. My 521 is now charging and I'll wait till it goes full.

Maybe others can chime in.

Anything running that might be causing that since that drain seems way bad versus prior performance?

I've disallowed Cortana from running in the background... it was set up to run in the background even in battery saver mode. Since making that change, battery drain seems to be back to where it was... 0.92% per hour.

Are you talking about using Isis? If so, then yes, you have to get a new sim from AT&T. You will also have to sign up for an AMEX Serve account. Then I think there is a 3 business day wait if you try to connect your bank to Isis in order to transfer money.
Not sure on all the specifics.

I never worry about battery drain for the first 3 battery cycles (roughly about a week for my 1520) after a completely new kernel is loaded (as was the case with 8.1). Once I have a few cycles, then I start checking battery drain. Until then, it is pointless.

I guess? 8.1's NFC settings has options for Tap to Pay. It says "Pay for things by tapping your phone to a participating store's NFC reader. You must have a payment SIM for this to work."

I'm not sure if that's the same thing as ISIS or not. There aren't any ISIS apps from ATT on WP8.1's store.

I have no idea? I've never used Isis as a matter of principle. Best bet is to go to the AT&T store and see if WP can even use Isis. Maybe that feature will be coming with Nokia's "Cyan" update and/or the carrier's update???

I don't know if anyone has seen it, but arstechnica gave 8.1 a good review.

I checked out the Lumia Icon at Verizon tonight and I liked the phone. I can only imagine it will be even better with 8.1.

8.1 makes a huge difference over 8.0. I've gone back to just using my Lumia 1520 full time and putting my Moto X away. Other than not being able to use Google Wallet and Google Now (which I can do without since I have a physical GWallet Card and Cortana), the 1520 now fills all those areas it lacked in 8.0. Prior to 8.1, I could not leave my Android phone completely. Always had to have it on standby for certain things.

Does anyone feel like posting a screenshot of their home screen? It'd be cool to see what they end up looking like now that you can do three rows of tiles on all phones (if I understand correctly) and have that transparency/wallpaper function :)

How do you think the Icon compares to the 1520?

I'm not on Verizon and have never picked up an Icon, so my input is minimal. I do know that spec wise, they are near identical; And in that regards I would consider the Icon the little brother to the 1520, and I do love my 1520 (even if it is a tad to big. I'm moving to the 930 when it becomes available on AT&T.)

Have you gone to WPCentral forums to get a better view of what actual owners are saying about the Icon? If not, here is the link:

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out. I need a new phone and I'm being totally open minded about it. I have been on Verizon for about 12 years, but I am also looking into AT&T. Tonight was the first time I took a long look at a Windows phone and that was because I read this thread yesterday. Windows phones get no love from the Verizon and AT&T stores-ditto for HTC, they seem to steer you straight to Samsung around here. And everyone else wants an iPhone.

I'll have to read about the 930. What size is it? I know the 1520 is really big, that is why I liked the size of the Icon. There's a Microsoft store near me too so I can go there too for any questions that I may have.

The Icon is the Verizon version of the 930. Same phone, minus the Verizon stuff and logo. :D And you are very lucky to have a Microsoft store near you! Only time I get to visit one is on my trips up to San Jose/Palo Alto.
And the Icon/930 is roughly the size of the Nexus 5, just weighs more. Here is a comparison view:

Seeing as your sig shows you own one, figured I'd ask for your opinion on the Lumia 1020. I used Windows Phone back in the 7-7.5 days and liked it quite a bit, was considering picking up a newer device to see what's changed. As it won't be my daily driver, I don't need top end spec'd hardware but figured I'd like to focus (no pun intended) on the feature I'd probably use the most--the camera. I can pick one up for about $250-275--wondered if you thought there's value to be had with that device at that price point. Also, any significant flaws/drawbacks that caught your attention.
