In a coffee shop.
this was an apple hard cider with some cherry in it. I tasted it and it was good. not overly sweet or cherry flavor.

Was the cherry flavour 'natural' - i.e. from real cherries - or was it some industrial or chemical version?

The Belgian beers differ considerably; those that use natural fruit (usually raspberry or cherry) are far tastier, far less sickeningly sweet, and far better balanced, than are the others. They are also - as it happens - far more expensive, as the natural ingredients cost more - in both time and money - to use in the brewing of beer.

it is all natural. but the cherry flavor is subtle, especially compared to a lambec. it's also suprisingly less sweeter than most of the fruit beers I've tried.

If it is natural - and the Mikkeller fruit beers are natural, fantastically delicious, highly alcoholic (and yes, quite expensive) - it will tend to be a lot less sweet, which is what I like; that lovely mix of tartness and a touch of mellowness.

Anyway, do enjoy.

For coffee lovers out there who also happen to like a nice robust stout. You need to seek out and find a beer called "Pablo Escobeer". Lord have mercy on my taste buds. This is an outstanding beer. The coffee flavor is overflowing on this one and it is rich, robust, and full of flavor. No really it is that good.

I don't know if they bottle their beers, but the brewery is called Beachwood and they are a local brewery so I don't know if they have a distribution setup for their beers. But if you are in the Long Beach or Seal Beach area, run to this brewery and try this beer out!

Again, if you like coffee and stouts, you will not be disappointed. Everyone at my table ended up ordering one after they tried mine. This is one of those beers that has a hint of stout flavoring with a mouth full of coffee flavoring.

Absolutely loved it!

I also had their "Jean-Quad Van Damme" Belgian quad and it was also really good. Not as good as Pablo, but it was tasty none the less.

Yes you are reading the names correctly!

To end the weekend I had one of my Bourbon County Brand Stouts (2016) which I aged for just under a year. Oh man does this beer pay off and pay off in a big way. Huge robust flavors. Exquisitely blended together for an incredibly enjoyable and easy to drink high ABV stout. I am so glad I picked up two bottles of this as I will be enjoying this one again shortly.

Hoping I am able to grab a 2017 bottle shortly!

I love coffee, and I love stouts - the sort of stout that is classed as a 'serious quad', a rich, robust, flavoursome brew. Especially in winter.

So, I will admit to having read your post with unusual interest.

A pint of Fieldwork's Galaxy Juice IPA tonight. Hazy, pineapple, delicious.

Nice!!! I had not heard of this brewery before and looked em up. I want to try their "Bean Machine" imperial Brown Ale and "Chocolate Milk". Both look delicious!

Ok the more I look at this brewery they have a couple of beers I would like to try. They are a California brewery, so here is to them being able to get some distribution going and them come a little farther south!

I don't know if I've disliked anything they've made, although I do have preferences for certain styles over others. Their Mexican Hot Chocolate Stout is really good too. That and their myriad saisons, sours, and IPAs...

They've been in the midst of a major expansion, opening beer gardens in Napa, San Mateo, Monterey, and Sacramento. They don't distribute bottles or cans (well, they do crowlers and pint cans but they are available on location only), but there may very well be places in socal that carry them on tap. At any rate, I suspect they'll make it down there eventually!

Of course there is always the road trip!

I am going to to assume you really like your IPA's...

I do, although I find my love of IPAs diminishes when they've sat in a bottle for a long time. Freshly brewed and on draught is the way to drink 'em.

Although, it's getting to the time of year that I'll start taking darker beers more frequently.

Frankly, my favorite style hovers around funky sour beers, almost anything brewed with brettanomyces is bound to be enjoyed.

Oh, yes, a heartfelt amen to this post.

I found myself delivering a lecture on Trappist beers - and other artisan beers - this afternoon, to a rapt audience, while we sipped Carlsberg.

And now, I have just opened a Guinness Foreign Extra for myself......

I am sure they have them up where you are, but in the Beach areas where I am, they just had their Annual Sour Fest. Basically all of the local brewers and brewery's get together and showcase their sour beer selection. I am not a big sour guy, so I sampled some of the other offerings. But my buddies are all huge sour fans and they were in heaven!

I agree regarding your comment on IPA's. I like them best from the tap!

I really ought to check out the beer events more closely. SF Beer Week is always full of stuff, some of the really small local breweries usually do cool events during that time.

I was in SF a few years ago and it happen to be beer week in 2015 and it the specialty beers were beers that were considered "big" or "high" in ABV. I was in freaking heaven. I had no idea it was taking place the week me and the wife were there. They had a check off list of all the participating locations and well we almost hit them all. LOL. It was outstanding.

We try to go to one or two a year. They can be a lot of fun. I go to Stone Brewery at least once or twice a year depending on my schedule for their festivals.

The dream is to go to the Great American Beer Fest (GABF)!!!!!!

Probably open up a cava tonight.

Need to do some alterations to the drinks menu for Thursday. It's supposed to be very hot that day. 33* for our Non-American friends.

Bought a couple bottles of Alsatian Reisling, a Brunello di Montalcino, and a Spanish white wine that will find its way into a baked endive, Stilton, cream, garlic, parsley dish.
Reisling... :) I could wax lyrical about it over the hours and over several bottles. That I'd keep to myself. Listeners may bring their own if they wish to, but I might snatch them away, too.

Baked endive with a cheese sauce seems to be a trend this week among people I know. You're the third person who's mentioned it. Another, is a gent I know on a car forum who brought it up and the other being an employee of mine who was speaking about the dish with others. Was it on TV or on a famous cooking website recently? I've never had cooked endive in my life, and now I'm very curious about it. I've only had it fresh.

I use a recipe from a "French bistro" type cookbook that I've had for years, and I periodically like to make it. I can't say whether a similar recipe has been recently promoted.

Sounds like an excellent selection of wines - very similar to what I bought today (an Alsace Riesling and a Brunelli di Montalcino also made an appearance in my shopping basket yesterday).
