If you like KBS, you will like Yellow Belly - it is an absolutely stunning stout.

I spotted the KBS today - I arrived home last night and went shopping for beers and cheeses this afternoon.

Now, I did say to the staff that I shall pay them a visit tomorrow with a view to securing/buying/paying for as many bottles of KBS as they will be prepared to sell to me. I should be able to get around a dozen or so, and will merrily snatch whatever else - or how many extra - they agree to sell to me.

The gooseberry IPA is stunning.

I haven't been able to track down any Buxton brews in my neck of the woods. KBS should be out and about by now or really close to it here on the west coast. I have a few orders in and hopefully I can track down a four pack or a bomber aka 22 oz bottle of it.

Stone Brewery is also releasing one of their famed stouts with a new twist, the Totalitarian Imperial Russian Stout which I am also on the lookout for!

In a coffee shop.
Just keep rubbing it in.

With pleasure.

(After all, I have never seen - let alone lifted or tasted - the legendary Pliny in the wild or anywhere else...)

But, I will say that I have never come across a poor beer from Buxton's. Most of their beers are excellent, and a few are outstanding.

Totalitarian Imperial Russian Stout - even the name (in another, earlier, different life, I used to teach Russian & Soviet history for a living - that was my passion - along with other more mundane journeyman teaching - EU institutions, anyone? - Electoral systems? and so on) has me twitching with barely suppressed excitement.

You must let me know how you find it. And meanwhile, I shall endeavour, with less than total success, to suppress the inevitable salivation that occurs just reading those words....

Pliny the Elder? Big bottle with the green label? As common as it is, and the gateway drug to craft beer, it's hard to find most of the time as well. When stores do get large shipments, they ration it out. Its floral aroma is heavenly.

Darn. I was hoping you would have an I could stop by your neck of the woods on Monday after work or before work. Whichever is more socially acceptable when buying craft beer in the AM and early PM. :p

That's another good one. My attraction to Pliny has always been its unique aroma and flavor profile. Hard to describe it except saying it smells like a flower shop and the taste reminds me of edible flowers with just a hint of citrus shining through. It's a very enjoyable beer. We tend to share a bottle or two when I do manage to snag a few.

I can never find it locally, but Santa Rosa isn’t so far. Perhaps it’s nearly time for a visit...

Their earlier version of this beer were outstanding and one of my favorites! While not barrel aged, they do have a rather distinct taste and to me they are sublime.

Pliny The Elder! I have been able to try that one tap at several locations near my house and yes, it is that good. Pliny the Younger is also very good. It is one of the better IPA's out there in my opinion. While it is hoppy it still packs a nice punch and as you mentioned the floral aroma is indeed heavenly.

If you are ever in the area, "Beachwood BBQ" both Seal Beach and Long Beach locations get it on tap almost every year. When it first hits, they do have a lottery system, but if they get enough you can usually get some without the ticket. That has been my experience over the past few years. Before that, yeah it was the luck of the draw. Now it is a small pour, but it is worth it in my book!

Hey, last past saturday, the liver and kidneys were kicked into gear at 0800 hours and didn't see a reprieve till later that night. So AM or PM works for me!

Well this is a nice thread to have stumbled upon! Hi all. I’ve been a member for many years here. Usually commenting on new articles and perusing the photo of the day threads; I consider myself quite the consumer of fine drinks though too. Brewed, fermented, or distilled. I currently reside in beautiful Temecula, so I’m in the midst of good beers and “okay” wines.
Currently on an IPA kick, so fridge has some ballast point and tangerine express. Both deliciously satisfying, from the first taste on through to the last burp!

Tangerine Express is up for grabs or did you raid their facility? :p

Have you tried the Habanero IPA from Ballast Point? Soooooo freaking good!

Getting ready to open a beer brewed back in my home state of Oregon. It is brewed by the Cascade Lakes Brewing Company called 'Salted Caramel Porter'. First time for this beer and brewery. Good reviews from friends.

A sour beer from the Buxton Brewery stable: This one is called Subliminal Sour India Pale Ale With Raspberries and is quite lovely - the kind of beverage that I think might find favour with @mobilehaathi.

Anyway, it is highly recommended.

Well, those both sound quite tasty, enjoy!

"Salted Caramel Porter"? Yum. When and where can I lay hands on this delightful offering?

It is brewed in Redmond, Oregon. I will check to see if they are shipping overseas.

Why, thank you, kind sir.

I do love those luscious rich, smooth porters, and I have an unseemly liking for salted caramel in any and every shape or form.

As a child, one of the very few sweets (candies to Our Transatlantic Cousins) that I liked was butterscotch; I am also partial to shortbread.

I suppose my post in the espresso thread did nothing but further your craving of salted caramel?

Just now, I have opened my second sour of the night: Another that would find favour with @mobilehaathi.

This is also from Buxton Brewery (another experimental beer from them, brewed in small batches - I have yet to have a beer brewed by them them that I didn't like).

The beer is called "Red Wolf" and is a sour; the notes on the label read as follows: "Inspired by the intense fruit and sour flavours of the Flanders red ale, this small batch, barrel-aged, sour fruit beer is brewed with raspberries, cherries and blackcurrants."

This was recommended in the shop today - very highly, as I was informed that beer clubs have raved about it.

Actually, this fool (your humble scribe) had spotted a full line of Founder's KBS last Tuesday, almost immediately upon my return home. I was tired, and complacent, and thought to put off this purchase until today, when I planned to clean out their stock. Alas, someone had gotten there before me - there wasn't a sole, single, solitary bottle of KBS to be had, not even lurking in storage. Never mind - they promised to try to source some for me, and tempted me (successfully) with other, hitherto unknown delights, such as I am sipping just this very minute.

I don't need your posts to remind me of what I already know I like.

Actually, I had purchased salted caramel chocolates and other delights on Tuesday - having flown in from the African continent on Monday night.

I had recently found a few bottles of Buxton, but they were fairly basic ales—nothing like you’ve talked about. Given the price I felt I’d hold off until I saw something particularly interesting, such as what you’ve written about here.
