Excellent choice. I also am a great fan of Alsatian wines. Among my top 5 preferred white wines. The beer was very good by the way, very refreshing and light (not in the mass-produced pop beer sense of course) despite being 7 %. Great spring tipple.

Actually, I love a good Alsatian wine (better than German wines); the Riesling is nicer - more balanced and subtle - while wines made from Pinot Blanc and - my favourite - Gewürztraminer simply rock.

Now, while I also love a good white Burgundy, the wines from Alsace tick certain boxes that nothing else approaches.

Tonight’s (first) tipple is going down far too quickly. Thought it apt re “Maypole” but not sure about the Mark Twain quote!

Didn't want to open up anything decent and wasn't up for wine. Had a large (650 ml) bottle of Guinness Extra Stout and another one. Might have one later tonight. Let them warm up to proper temperature.

Not hot enough for gin tea.

Why did you not wish to open "anything decent"?

And there is nothing wrong with Guinness Extra Stout (especially if it is the version brewed in foreign, - i.e. hot climes).

A spouse is a fine choice when they enjoy good beer. Though I do have friends who enjoy good beers and we do hold tasting parties a few times a year. We usually do a big bash each summer. I think we had just over 170 bottles last year.

Looks amazing - I hope it tastes equally good. Do enjoy.

I have had some rather decent win this evening - celebrating a colleague's birthday party; a Montalcino di Brunello and a wonderful Languedoc wine (from Grenache grapes) supplied by me; a Margaux supplied by a colleague and a lovely evening of wine, and good food, and cheese, and birthday cake (superb).

Now, a glass of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc before I head off to bed.

Iced green tea (Sencha) spiked with a lovely aromatic gin with minute traces of citrus and cucumber.
