My sense is that German beers and breweries might have a better idea of what an Oktoberfest beer ought to be.

Some do... Not going to say they don't. However, I have found some really good beers from American breweries, hence the reason I like trying them.

I have had quite a few German offerings and the range in taste is just as you might find from American breweries. My favorites still are Sam Adams Oktoberfest, Wiehenstephanor's, and Paulaner's offering.

A beer I received as a gift a while ago and am finally sampling, savouring and sipping this evening: Brewdog Cocoa Psycho, a Russian Imperial Stout.

Brewdog makes some really good beers! Really good. I mentioned them a couple of times in this thread. If you can get your hands on their "Tokyo" Imperial Stout, I highly recommend it. I clocks in at 18 to 21% (Depending on the batch), but to be honest you don't really taste or feel the alcohol.

Got a little wine and some bourbon from Total Wine today. Really happy to have found the hillrock. Also, on a side note, I brought back a bad bottle of wine and they took it back, no questions asked. Didn’t even need proof of purchase.

I was rummaging through some crates tonight, and, when my hand alighted on a bottle (or two) of Brewdog, I realised that I had indeed heard of it, on this very thread, and above all, from your posts, @rhett7660.

If memory serves, this (these) were a gift from my wine merchant, who wanted me to sample some of the decent beers he had managed to lay hands on in his travels.

But, yes, agreed, it was most palatable and quite delicious.

You like them spicy or regular? I usually get them spicy! Same for bloody mary's, the spicier the better!

Spicy Bloody Mary's, yes, amen to that.

Mind you, I have never come across a modelo chelada, and so cannot comment with any authority on the matter.

My second beer of the night is the classic Founder's KBS.

I like spicy. But this is pre-mixed in a can.

Oh... Gotcha.

For the Modelo Chelada, think of the beer being used instead of vodka in a bloody mary. For the Chelada, you can also get the rim spiced with Tajin or salt. Depending on your tastes. I usually get them made with Dos XX lager with a little kick in the spicy area!
