Re the six bought beers you have mentioned: Are they the wonderful St Bernadus Abt 12 (which is sublime, superb, and which I know I love - a superlative beer), which I see in the picture, the happy monk chortling away, or are they the other beverage which has been pictured here, namely, the Anchor Porter?

No I meant the Anchor beer, the St Bernadus has been in stock for years.

Anchor brewing makes an Xmas Ale each year and they change the recipe up each time so it's different. Sometimes it's really good, other times kinda mehhh, haven't had any this year but if you check you may find some.

I am alway a little wary of these once only brews, I would hate to taste the beer of my dreams, to only know that I would never be able to purchase it again.:(

The wife picked me up this.. I haven't tried it yet, but I can't wait too!!

And had this one recently..... tasty I tell yeah!

Can you let us know how that Japanese Green Tea IPA tastes.

The St Bernardus Abt 12 is one o the very best beers I have had in my life; a simply superb beer. Unfortunately, I bought the last few stocked by my local off licence, and it will be at least a number of days before they are able to restock it.

Meanwhile, I shall have to make do with Trappists Rochefort 6, or Gulden Draak, another two excellent beers which I am also rather partial to.

I second Abt 12... outstanding beer. Not a guzzler by any stretch of the imagination. Slow sipper and it is worth it to take your time!

Will do! So far all the reviews, including the one here, have been it is really good!!!!!

Agree completely.

A wonderfully complex, rich, smooth, slow sipping beer, one to savour, and yes, one to take time over. A beer for an armchair, a book, a warm cosy corner, and an evening drink. Also, I think, one of those drinks that can be enjoyed in your own company….

Enjoy a bottle from the Willamette Valley, Oregon. It is called Stone Wolf 2012 Barrel Select Cuvèe Pinot Noir and it is easy-drinking Pinot Noir.

Just finished the Hefe, sipping the Rochefort right now. Truly, the best beer I've ever drank.

I bet Weihenstephaner makes no crappy beers at all. Vitus is my personal favorite.

My local liquor store has a limited batch of Rochefort 10 and I'm eager to try it out. Could you describe the beer a bit?

I do not have the skill to properly describe this amazing beer. PolarBeer3 ( a beer advocate reviewer ) seems to know what he's talking about:
A - Pours a deep brown colour with fabulous slightly tanned frothy head that just laces beautifully

S - Loads of sweet malts, candy apple, dark fruit, raisins, dark chocolate..wow! Love it!

T - Dark fruit, figs, raisins, like Rum'Raisin dark chocolate, some caramel and a hint of vanilla with some spice that is balanced so well

M - Medium bodied and carbonation but so smooth and creamy

O - Awesome quad that is a must to try. With out a doubt one of my favourites
It's insane how the flavor changes while the beer warms. It doesn't get bitter like a common US domestic, it gets more flavor. Truly delicious.

I have had the Trappist Rochefort 6 on a number of occasions, and can attest to the fact that it is an outstandingly good beer, complex, flavoursome, and wonderfully full and rich on the palate, a beer I hugely enjoy sipping and savouring.

How does the Rochefort Trappist 10 compare with it?

Thanks for adding those tasting notes; now, I must try to track down a bottle or two of this beer. Sounds delicious.

Ah, another vote in favour of the Trappist Rochefort 10. Excellent.

Okay: This is a must try, then, as I love the Rochefort Trappist 6. I can only assume that this will be equally good.

The Trappist 6 is the only one I have not tried yet. Nobody has had it in stock or on hand either on tap or bottled at the many locations I frequent. It is one I really want to get my hands on also!

Does any place sell Augustiner Brau? By far the most delicious German beer.

I can't find it anywhere.

Thank you, man. I will pick up a bottle tomorrow and enjoy it from my brand new beer glass!

Any lucky souls here who have tried the Westvleteren 12, dubbed as the world's best and rarest beer? Does it live up to the hype?

Again, I'm only an amateur cicerone, but here is my take on comparing a Rochefort 6, 8 and 10.
Rochefort 6 is a fantastic beer, double brewed, so half as good as a 10? Not really, but there is definitely a difference in flavor. The 10 has deeper, more layered flavors. The 8 is something completely different. If Stella or IPAs are your favorite, you may prefer the 8 to the 10 or 6.

Not yet, but it is on the bucket list. I will literally fly or sail to Belgium, just for this beer.

Unfortunately, this is one I have yet to try, too. However, it is most certainly on my list, should opportunity arise.

Thank you very much for that feedback; yes, as I love the Trappist 6, I imagine that the Trappist 10 will be richer, deeper and even more flavoursome. I'll certainly keep an eye out for it.

Here we go, boys!

That seductive picture qualifies as something disturbingly close to what might be classed as beer…………….pornography.

But thank you kindly for posting it. Much appreciated. Now, fort the tasting notes - and I most certainly shall have to put my detective hat on and try to procure some of this……nectar.

I'm sure SS appreciates the pic too. ;)

Not for the first time, mobilehaathi, you read my mind……..and I thought I was opaque and mildly mysterious…...

Okay, the Rochefort... I sipped this while watching the Top Gear Patagonia Special and man was it good. Actually one of the best, if not the best beer I've tasted.

The beer has striking looks as you can see - dark mahogany-like color, velvety foam. Very aromatic, almost kind of a port wine -like, smell. First, the taste was kind of overpowered by the warmth of the alcohol, as this is my first quadrupel, but after a few sips I noticed hints of banana, chocolate, toffee, anise, wood, yeast (lots of it), licorice. The mouth feel is absolutely heavenly... Robust, but fresh.

I really recommend drinking this when it's room temperature, it will sprout out the flavors much more aggressively, just like 960design said. I will definitely buy this again - too bad this is a special batch, so its availability is limited here.

Great review, and thanks for taking the time and trouble to post it. If anything, you have whetted my appetite still further to try this beer out.

On the topic of temperature: I agree with you. Ice cold beers are fine for summer, and perfect for summer lager drinking. But these rich, aromatic, (quite alcoholic) and wonderfully luscious beers require room temperature in order to be able to release their aromas, scents and flavours to the full.

I feel your pain, my local guy holds a bottle or two for me every time he gets a batch (visit once a week). If not I have to try and find it at one of the larger specialty wine-beer houses.

Love this beer..........! Excellent description! Felt like I was reading a review on one of the beer sites or magazines! :)

Well, I am drinking a glass of Rochefort Trappist 6 as I write this post, and you have confirmed that the Rochefort Trappist 10 is every bit as sublime and superb as I had thought. I shall make every effort to seek it out….

Thanks for the further corroboration……….
