Enjoy @Scepticalscribe, I'm just finishing my second Stella while reading William Manchester's A World Lit Only By Fire.

Book and beer and birthday?

What could be better?

Do enjoy.

I despatched a small crate of good French wine (a Haut-Medoc Cru Bourgeois, and a seriously good Chablis) to my brother (Decent Brother on these threads) for his birthday (May 7).

We have an espresso thread so I figured and that we needed one for both wine and beer drinkers here.

Kicking it-- I'm a huge fan of cabs and sauvignon blancs.
Just the thread i was looking for dude. Im a die hard for both. Favorite beer: Erdinger, Peroni, Stella, Corona (no punt intended).
Favorite Wine: Pedestal 2015 Merlot, thats one that stuck with me but honestly id drink any

Just curious is anyone here into cider? There are excellent ones from the UK and Ireland and the regions of Brittany and Normandy in France as well.

Cider from the UK, Ireland, Brittany, Normandy, and some Scandinavian brands can be rather good.

However, in our world, it is (or was) a sort of "rite of passage" alcoholic beverage, and, when I was a teenager (and a little later), some truly deplorable stuff masquerading as cider was available, which, with the lack of taste for which teenagers can be notorious, was consumed in vast quantities.

The fact that it was abysmal stuff has rather unfortunately influenced subsequent perceptions of the drink, although I will concede that it is a brilliant summer drink.

Over the past decade, a French colleague reminded me that some of the ciders (and indeed, some of the Calvados, a sort of apple brandy) from Normandy are excellent in quality, which served as a re-introduction to this beverage.

Just had a Maisel's Weisse, a Bavarian wheat beer, a mild one. If you like wheat beer, you'll probably love it!
It's easy to buy in Bavaria, and harder to get the farther you're away from it. Anyhow, I also had on in Sydney, Australia 13 years ago. So it's possible to find it in foreign countries :)

Beyond that, my all-time favourite is Coopers Pale Ale from Australia. Super expensive if you buy in Europe, even paid 9€ for a bottle in an Aussie bar in Helsinki. To me, it was worth it!

The latter I know (and like), but might I ask what exactly the former is?

It’s a Bourbon. A bit stronger than my usual Jack Daniels or Jim Beam.

Gin & Tonic......maybe a double

(I can pretend it's a new beer if that's necessary for this thread)
