In a crystal wine glass no doubt? Enjoy.

How did you ever guess?

Yes. Such an excellent wine deserves to be served in a fitting form of glassware.

Thus, I am sipping this from a crystal glass, actually, the classic red wine glass in the Lismore range, (essentially, their understated classic - google it) by Waterford Crystal.

No. Plainer, and straighter - those are akin to goblets.

Look for the original style of Lismore - it dates from the 50s, apparently - in those days, red wine glasses were considerably smaller than they are now.

Actually, I got these in an antiques shop - they had spotted them, at some sort of fair in Scotland, and had held them for me - I was in Russia at the time. New, they would have been astronomical, but I have been looking for sturdy but classic, elegant wine glasses for at least two years, and the antiques shop - who know me well - had an idea of what I was looking for; this is the old classic style.

Having said that, they did persuade me to also buy the water goblets in the sam set - which are the same style and cut, but a larger glass.

And, they had two decanters, - one a stunning ship's decanter - and brandy balloons - in that exact style and cut - which I decided to hold off on, for now, although they look magnificent.

Well something more like this then?

Or this
Waterford-Lismore-Goblet-and-Red-Wine-Glass-6133180200.jpg

Considerably closer to the bottom one.

But not exactly, as mine is slightly straighter and wider at the bottom. But, you get the general idea. I did see one picture online - again, it is the 'red wine' rather than the white wine range I bought, although, given preferences nowadays, these look small even for red wine.

"Lismore" is Waterford Crystal's classic style, something I hadn't actually known when I bought it - I just thought it looked both impressively sturdy and exquisitely elegant - and that was the combination I wanted in a wine glass.

It 'pings' beautifully when you flick it, and sits solidly on the coaster.

Meanwhile, the wine is going down very nicely, so, thank you @Apple fanboy, for almost shaming me into greeting the wine section of my cellar.

To be honest your wine seller friend dropped me an email and asked me to ;)

Enjoy your wine, but remember you don't have to empty the bottle tonight!

Having beer cooling down that I have not had before. It is called New Belgium Rampant and is brewed in the US.

Enjoy.

Oe of the things that seems to be available this time of year are "mixed" packs from some of the very good Belgian breweries, often containing a bottle of one of their difficult to obtain beers.

Both St Bernardus, and Trappists Rochefort breweries offer these (seasonal gift) packs, usually with four different bottles (and a glass beer chalice); they make an excellent gift - and also an excellent sampling pack should you wish to keep such a thing for yourself.

The St Bernardus one - which I bought today - contains, apart from the beautiful glass, a single bottle of the Pater (St Bernardus Pater 6), another of the Prior (which I am currently sipping - the St Bernardus Prior 8), one of their stunning quadruple - the St Bernardus Abt 12, and a single bottle of their rare, and difficult to track down, Tripel.

So anybody from back east who can or might be able to get their hands on some of the Goose Island Stouts this year, please drop me a PM!

All of the places around me are either getting them and they are already spoken for, or they do not know if they will be getting any.

On a side note, I tried a few new brews this year:
VooDoo Stout - Tasty
Black Marlin Porter - Really tasty! One of the better porters I have had. This one was really good!

Of course I had one of my Founders Breakfast stouts. God I love this beer. I am beginning to think this is one of my top three beers.

Yes, the Founder's Breakfast Stout is excellent, agreed. A superb and really well balanced beer.

As I remember it has a peanut type flavor and a high alcohol content. Yes/No?

Yes. The very one.

That is exactly the beer which describes itself as a "peanut butter biscuit stout with no biscuits, butter or nuts".

It is a subtle take on the 'imperial stout' theme. And yes, it is one of those 'quad' style stouts that does indeed, come with a rather high alcohol content. What some misguided souls might consider a stratospherically high alcohol content (for a beer), if truth be told.

But, it is utterly sublime.

I did not mind tasting one or two also.

You had me sold at the peanut butter taste! I don't know if you have had "Belching Beavers Peanut Butter Stout" or not, but I was wondering how it would compare to it. The BB is a little lower than the Yellow Belly beer, but I really dig the peanut butter flavor!
