Finally came across this thread..wonder how it took so long.

There are only a few drinks that I am particular about. Beer isn't really one of them even though I really do even Guinness. With the Foreign Extra Stout and Porter being one of my favorites.

I do occasionally like a Apple Cider and Crispin is probably my favorite of these.

Scotch is my next love. The Balvenie being at the top, The Glenlivet next. Single Malts only 12-15yr are the main go to just due to price of 18-21yr. This year my wife and I did go to Scotland and toured Balvenie and were able to taste a 42yr straight out of the barrel. I don't even have words for how amazing this scotch was.

Wine. We are definitely Cabernet Sauvignon drinkers. We don't really have a go to brand just because we like trying lots of different cabs. But I will say we enjoy ones from Napa the most.

And followed that up with a Belgian quadrupel, but with a twist.

This is a bottle of what is described and the St Bernardus 'Christmas Ale'.

Actually, in truth, this is not 'an ale'. Rather, it is a classic Belgian quadrupel, a robust porter, best viewed a Yuletide tweak on their St Bernardus Abt 12. Quite superb.

Yup had this a few years back, didn't pick one up this year though. Probably should go see if they have any left at my local shop.

It is a very strong and robust beer. Robust being a great way to describe it. I really like it, but my friends were impartial to it, which of course left more for me to enjoy!

I finished off two of some of my go to beers both by Allagash Brewery. Allagash's Dubbel and Curieuex. Both are excellent beers and both are chalk full of flavor. Curieuex, in my opinion, being the better tasting of the two.

If I am ever back east again, this is one brewery I want to visit and take in some of there limited beers that I can't find out here.

Came across an extraordinary beer from Founder's today, the "Wizard of Koz" and was also shown a few from the Crooked Stave brewery, a brewery I had never heard of prior to this afternoon.

Let us know how you enjoy that Wizard brew; I've eyed it recently...

Never tried Crooked Stave, but I've seen that too---somewhere. Do let us know how you like it if you sample some.

There was a 'Saison' beer, and an IPA style one, neither of which would interest me much in winter.

However, following a recommendation, I did buy one bottle of their Petite Sour Blueberry - and was assured that the ingredients are completely natural.

What a great beer. So far I have not had a single beer from them that I have not liked.

I'll admit that I was not completely crazy about either "Devil Dancer" or their "Rubeus" beers, but - apart from those minor hiccups - the rest of their line up has been almost uniformly superb, agreed.

And their best beers - such as, the Breakfast Oatmeal Stout, the KBS, the Sumatran Coffee - these are simply stunning.

That is funny, I haven't had those from them! I have had only the BOS, SC, and Backwoods from them. I am waiting patiently to try the KBS. Which I hope to get this year!

The Breakfast Oatmeal Stout is an excellent beer, a wonderful balanced rich stout, perfect for cold evenings.

And - as for the legendary KBS - well, what can I say, other than it is simply one of the very best stouts I have ever had in my life.

This makes me want it even more! For the love of all things living let me get my hands on this legendary and one of the quintessential beers on my must have beer list!

To my mind, KBS is easily on a par with the best of the superb Belgian quadrupels, those beers such as the Rochefort Trappistes 10, or the St Bernardus Abt 12, that are at the pinnacle of Belgian beer making.

Well I think we have the same taste, as mentioned previously in this thread, those two beers are some of the best beers I have ever had. Period.

Have you picked up any of the Mikkeller dark beers by any chance?

I have been on the look-out for them, - and would love to try them -

Moreover, I have requested that they be ordered - if possible: But - the agent/representative for Mikkeller has been described to me as someone with whom it has been difficult to do business.

My young manager intimated that he would attempt to acquire Mikkeller through another source, if possible. Apparently, they were due to receive a delivery of the Mikkeller around mid-December, a time when people would have been interested in experimenting with, and in purchasing unusual beers with interesting flavours.

This delivery never arrived, and - just before Christmas - they confided that it was almost too late. Nevertheless, they still hope to be able to acquire some - as I discovered when I called in yesterday.

I wish I could remember the one I tried a few weeks ago, but I do recommend checking them out if/when they do arrive. At least, if the others are as good as the one I tried.

Elsewhere, I mentioned that I have been watching an episode (or two) of "Victorian Bakers" (highly intelligent and fascinating - educational and entertaining and extraordinarily interesting - TV, - I bought the DVD, and am watching it on my MBA).

To while away the night while thus occupied, I opened the "Wizard Of Koz" from Founder's.

This is a rich, hefty, smooth, sweet porter.

Personally, I would have preferred if I had been able to buy it in the traditional 330ml bottles, rather than the 750ml I bought yesterday. However, as I had decided to watch a DVD, it seemed a good idea to open the bottle, sip it, savour it, and relax while enjoying a spot of Victorian history - especially the history of food, culture and society, which are subjects I have long found fascinating.
