Another tasting... first time trying this one.

There have been one or two of their beers I wasn't especially crazy about - but that was more in the nature of an experiment that I didn't care for, rather than a mistake by Founder's - for example, I wasn't entirely keen on Devil Dancer, and a beer made with chilli (I love chilli in food, but prefer to forego it in beer) was not a favourite either.

However, I have liked most of what I have consumed from that stable; and their stouts are superb.

So far the only "hot" beer that I like is the one from Ballast Point. Their Habaner IPA. I freaking loved it. The beer was something else. Couldn't drink more than two of them, but man those first two are excellent.

I've had a handful of Founders that I didn't enjoy much.

Which ones? Now granted I haven't had all of their beers but the ones I have had I like a lot.

An elegant, tart, beer, brewed by the excellent Odell Brewing Company, called "Friek" (the word itself being a blend the two ingredients, and the beer itself is a blend of "framboise" - in other words, raspberries, - and "kriek" - - in other words, cherries, - both ingredients are natural - and is based on the Belgian style of tart (and sour) fruit beers).

The beer's full name is "Friek - Ale with cherries & raspberries added aged in oak barrels."

Delicious.

From a few I recall, there was the Bourbon Ridiculous or something like that, the Frangelic which I haven't seen in a long time, Mosaic and Backwoods Bastard.

They did a pomegranate based beer a while back that was good, but not as good as the Blushing Monk.

Habaner IPA.
Is it spicy or is it the peppery flavor that becomes offputting? I like habaneros. They're fruity and flavorful, but they stink when chopped up. Almost resin like.

The Blushing Monk is excellent, and - in the right mood, I am rather partial to Backwood's Bastard (although it is a sweet an powerful beer).

Mosaic was an okay summer drink but nothing spectacular, to my mind: personally, I disliked that haberenos one, Devil Dancer, and there was a sickly sweet one (raspberry flavoured) that I disliked too.

Dark Penance wasn't one of my favourites, either.

However, their porters tend to be excellent, and, for that, I will forgive a lot.

What you didn't like Backwoods Bastard!!!!!!

It is spicy, hot spicy, if that makes sense. I know the smell you are referring to and there is non of that. I did have it on tap so I don't know if there is a "big" difference between tap and bottle. It is one of those beers every time we go to their brewery location I get.

It is a terrific winter beer, one that makes cold nights somewhat warmer and more welcoming.

Just looked this one up to see if it is in my area, sadly it isn't. I am always on the look out for Belgium beers, especially those are actually from Belgium.

It was recommended to me recently as worth trying; with Belgian beers, I find the the beers from St Bernardus, the Trappistes Rochefort, and those brewed by the Achouffe breweries are very good.

Maredsous and Orval are also excellent.

Had an 07 blushing monk today. Aged very well.

Ah, an 07 Blushing Monk?

I have had a few from 2015, and they are excellent. Moreover, I have been advised that they are supposed to age superlatively well, so it is nice to have this conformed.

I had the 07 once before in 2012. I thought that was the best one I have had. The 15 is great. Think I am down to 2 bottles left which I plan on holding onto a bit longer.

Considering people start to drink at 5-6am. Most people keep it together and everyone is generally really friendly at dark lord day. But there are always some fallen soldiers.

Edit: I did not take those pictures.
