I am amused about how short sighted we could be and are. What about somebody who is blind or has lost one or both hands? Wireless charging could be a game changer for them. Think beyond yourself, when you question the utility of a feature.

The Examples that you listed seem fairly extreme in the sense of the context of the thread Regarding the _Appeal_ of wireless charging and why/why not someone would be interested. I’m not being dismissive of your ideas or those with disabilities, but’s It’s not necessarily addressing disabilities, but more or less the usefulness of wireless charging for those who have the preference or not.

This is the second thread I have noticed on this subject. The OP on that thread lashed out at Apple for including wireless charging because they had no need for it. They gave no thought to people for whom, because of disability might really appreciate wireless charging. While this post is better, regarding its tone, nobody thought about raising the disability issue that argues for wireless.

I am not saying that people here are dismissive of people with disability. What I am saying is most people here who are not disabled, make evaluations based on their own needs, without giving much or any thought to the barriers faced by others. In this regard, forum members are not different from others. I am raising the issue in the hope that people can or will become more aware.

. . . The OP on that thread lashed out at Apple for including wireless charging because they had no need for it. They gave no thought to people for whom, because of disability might really appreciate wireless charging . . .

I am not the OP of the other thread, which I personally have not seen.

I felt I handled your post with respect.

Within this thread, I have not, “lashed out” because I appreciate that some people have a need for certain features and others don’t. I merely wanted to hear the opinion from both sides – it is a forum after all.

Not to sidetrack the thread, but I also prefer phones with a Jack and see no need for the removal, there are some on the forum, however, who celebrate its removal and don’t appreciate that people desire choice.

I am not one for taking away people’s choice with little benefit.

I use wireless charging stands, not pads. I have one on my desk at work and it's the perfect angle that I don't even have to move for FaceID to work, and I can use the phone while it's charging on the stand. Same model stand is on my desk at home, and also one on my nightstand. I haven't plugged in my X since I got it. Wireless is a huge convenience for me.

I use a docking station to charge my phone and watch. I have an apple charging dock at work and I use a cable for my car. In my car is where I feel I will benefit best from a wireless charger so I am not fuddling around with the cable while driving.

I use a wireless charging pad stand. It’s nicer with an S8 because of always on display, but I use
it for my 8 plus also. I will usually use my iPad at home.

I haven't bought a wireless charging stand and don't have one in my car either. To me, its a gimmick that maybe I will use in the future, but for now I am more than happy just plugging it in right before bed to charge it.

Wireless charging really isn’t a priority for me and I do understand the convenience, but I still prefer plugging in directly.

However, I do think it’s great that auto manufacturers with newer model vehicles are starting to implement wireless charging and have been for some older model vehicles as well, in which case I would rather have wireless charging in my car than at home, being that I don’t use my phone when I’m driving and I could stream all my music directly to my touchscreen display without picking up my iPhone. And it eliminates the wire in the process in the center console area.

This. I never understood why charging pads are so popular when you can also buy charging stands. I have an Anker 5W stand on my nightstand at home. I used to get frustrated plugging in the lightning cable in the dark, especially if you remember you forgot to modify your alarm and you pull it off and have to put it back on. The wireless stand is so convenient.

I did not get a charging stand for my office yet, but I will probably do that soon. I have a $6 stand on my desk at work that I put my iPhone X in. As you say the stand keeps it at the perfect angle for FaceID. If I see a notification appear I just look at my phone and it unlocks to display the full text. The only reason I haven't already replaced the stand with a charging stand is because I never seem to get close to depleting the battery and I just charge overnight on the 5W stand. With the 5W charging I've never felt my iPhone get very warm at all. I've felt more heat while using it than while charging it. I've read that the best thing for lithium-ion batteries is to charge them more frequently because the worst thing for the battery is to regularly go from complete (or near) depletion to fully charged. Much better to avoid the huge swings and keep them mostly charged.

I am not a fan of constant charging and topping off my battery so the wireless charging never had any appeal to me. I end up my days with about 40-50% of battery life on average. I never had to top off my X yet to survive a full day.

My wife on the other hand is able to kill 8+ by 5 pm, but she also is not a fan of wireless charging as she is unable to use her phone when charging.

With our use cases, I do not see us going with the wireless charging route any time soon.

The lightning port could be the next to go. Wireless becoming ubiquitous and convenient, same pad works on Samsung, Apple and others.

The procedure to fix a hard fail on an update involves plugging in the cable and fixing via iTunes. You can't eliminate a port without removing the ability of a user to fix a failed update.

Mind sharing a link to the stand you use? I'd like to have one for my desk as the pad I currently use doesn't work for the situation you describe. The stands that I've seen have such extreme angles that they're pointing more toward the ceiling than my face.

Much less wear and tear on the lightning port; besides, keeping a pad on your bedside is easier than making sure your lightning cord stays in place.

I agree that it would be less wear on the lightning port, but the lightning port is designed to withstand thousands upon thousands of usage, which likely the majority never will have problems with it even if they chose not to utilize wireless charging.

I love having a handy wireless charging stand that I can just drop my phone onto when I'm at work. It's purely a convenience factor, plus it means I can horde my lightning cables for home and car.

When my parents upgraded to an 8 and an 8+, I got them both wireless chargers and it blew their minds. My dad keeps it on his desk and my mom uses hers on her nightstand-she loves that if she's up in the middle of the night she can grab her phone, use it, and then just drop it back on the charger without fumbling with a wire.

I've had wireless charging on other devices in the past, and while it's not a make it or break it feature for me, I do really enjoy the convenience factor. It's especially handy if you use a stand that props your phone up, since it doubles as a phone holder.

For me personally, I just don't want to make the investment for a stack of wireless chargers in a house full of iphones when we have cables everywhere.

I didn't see the need for using before I actually started using it
Now, it is just so convenient for me that I never even think about it
As others have said, it isn't a deal breaker, but I have appreciated it more than I thought I would
+1

I only ever now plug in my iPhone X in the car, or occasionally to fast charge (using my iPad Pro 29W charger) if in a rush. Wireless charging is just more convenient and requires no thought. When the phone is not in use, it is being charged.

It is one of those features you thought of no importance, but appreciate after you start using.

...in the current generation, with a lightning port. I'd go out on a limb and say this is not how they'd recover a device created without the port, and also safe to say they'd have a means for recovering a device. Possibly something like the smart connector on the iPad Pro.

I like wireless charging and like others, it's not a dealbreaker for me, but I drop my phone on the charger in the dark when I go to bed. It's nice not having to find and plug in the cable. Ideally I'd like to see a nightstand that has a surface where I could drop all my devices without having to plug everything up.

That’s one of the reasons I bought a wireless charger: because I was tired of having cables hanging out everywhere! I didn’t think I would care at all about wireless charging. Now I think my wireless charger was $20 well spent! You don’t need a stack of them. I just have one at home and will probably get one for the office.

I mean I have multiple iPhone users in my home. Would need to buy one for the bedroom, a few for our living room, one for my job and possibly a special one for my car.

Plus I’m used to being able to use my phone while it’s charging although it might prevent me from messing with my phone while I’m supposed to be going to bed lol

The More I contemplate about it, I could care less what wireless charging in my house, I just would rather have wireless charging in my car’s, which none of them offer. I would rather have less clutter in the car with wires and leave my phone in one spot.

Totally agree. For me I have docking stations around my home and on my desk at work. I do not have any cables hanging anywhere, nor need to fumble with cables. Simply dock my phone and done. Just as convenient as placing my phone down on a charging mat.

Several posts in the thread that state the only place some forum members don't have wireless charging is in their car.

That's the one place I could perhaps see myself using it :)

It's a strange world . . .
