If you mean WiFi syncing with iTunes, I believe it’s generally a little slower than cable. But note you can’t backup to iTunes via WiFi, only cable for some reason.

Yes that is what I meant. My backups are already slow on a cable. Can't imagine on WiFi. I don't backup to iCloud choosing to backup to my Mac. Removing the lightning port would be a blow.

I’m always intrigued by posts like yours.

Agree with you on the SIM tray as a better solution looks to be available with internal chip based SIMs.

Why would you want to see the only remaining port that’s of any use to anyone removed though?

Many people use it every day. Is it really inconveniencing you that much that you’d deprive them of that capability?

No, its not an inconvenience just another place to let in moisture/trap dirt/failure point.
Some sort of magnetic smart connector-like (re: iPad pro keyboard) would be sufficient for any diagnostic connectivity.

Does wireless syncing with iTunes work as well as with a cable?

Not sure, I don't use iTunes.

Just convenience. Period.

& Samsung has a fast charge. Toss the device on @ dinner and let it sit and take it off before bed and you are good to go.
Can even top it off before the morning shower.
Using the cable is fine but the wireless charger is just a convience option to drop and pick up.

My phone is plugged in and charging right now whilst I’m on the forum.

For those who use their phones while charging. I can see how the wireless charging does not work for
them. I mostly charge my phone at night, and I have other devices by my bed. I only have one wireless
charging stand by my bed. I still use cables for my computer, and at work if I need it.
It’s nice that Apple offers it now for those that like to use it, and if you don’t like it, you
don’t have to use it.

Who would find inductive charging useful? Anyone that found docks useful in the past, then inductive charging docks are 10x better, it's that simple.

I personally use it when I go to bed, just toss it on inductive dock, no more hunting or trying to align lightning dock to iPhone at night when there is little light in my bedroom. Also I have an iOttie inductive mount on my car, it's amazing.

If it were that simple, the question of 'who would find inductive charging useful' would not be asked. It's just as simple to dock your phone. It's rare for me to have issues finding the lightning port, and even when I do, it's such a non issue, it's not worth mentioning. I find no use in inductive charging that costs $200 dollars. Now that is simple.

As the title says, I’m struggling to understand the appeal of wireless charging on an iPhone beyond a particular set of circumstances.

I can also see the benefits of using wireless charging pads for a quick boost in bars, cafes, restaurants, fast food outlets etc.

About the last place I would leave my phone would be on a charging pad in a bar, cafe, restaurant or fast food joint. I'd have to sit there and watch it for fear it would be stolen.

Who is spending 200 on a charger?

I was giving one of these $30 wireless chargers at the link below a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't like it that much so I let my wife use it. In just reading the ad, it claims to charge up to 50% faster than the standard 5 watt charger that comes with Apple phones. I guess I'll have to give this a test to see if it's really that much faster.

Just reread the ad and it says it has a 9 watt coil so maybe the 50% faster claim in true.

Wireless Charging is a feature which only certain people take advantage of just like all other features
This feature is usefull for people that sit at a desk and can just lay their phones down to charge them It also has uses in other places like Starbucks etc

Right, but those certain people want the _Convenience_ of not having to use the wire when they don’t need it. You’re paying for a convenience, you’re not paying for different result of charging the iPhone battery any differently than you would with a wire, its all about the ease of use.

I use Seneo, 4.5/5 Stars from 2700+ reviews on Amazon, works beautifully, it's only $20.
