Hi! First of all, thanks for all the support and the great app that you created for us. I really appreciate your amazing job.
I have 2 questions, for future updates, if you are considering or maybe an idea to add.
Are you going to include Trail running in sports category, as part of different type of running activity?
Is it possible to add, a feature that I saw in Suunto watches, that you can add a route, and in the watch you can see the profile of the route, and see in which point of the route you are exactly? That would be helpful because you can see when is the point of the race that you would be going up, or down.
Something like in the picture:

I know that for now, you can see the profile of the route, but only when you run through, not the same.

Sorry if I didn't explain too well. Thanks a lot!!
The app uses Apple’s workout system, so it is limited to the activity types that offers, which only includes one type of Running activity. In the future I plan to allow the ability to create custom activity types that map to Apple’s types.

Currently GPX routes are simply displayed and you are warned when you deviate from them. There is no concept of following them, so the app cannot show your position on an elevation graph, or the remaining distance or time. However I plan to enhance the route and navigation functionality in a future version to allow this. At the moment it will be top of my to-do list after I have released the version supporting the always on display this week, and probably another version for watchOS 10 and the new watches.

Ian, version 5.0 apparently it is available as an update in the App Store. I cannot download it yet (it has been the case with some other updates), but surely will work along the afternoon.

Thanks for all the impressive work!

It is indeed! I released it a few minutes ago.

I haven't been able to download and test it yet either, so fingers crossed!

I have finally tested it and found a bug already! When adding a tip the confirmation message still says that it is a beta version, and says that payment hasn't been taken when it actually has.

So I will now be releasing a version with that fixed. Very quickly!

But aside from that it is now available on the App Store if anyone wants to download it. I have selected the phased release option so it will be released over a week to people who have automatic updates selected. So if you want it sooner then go to the App Store and specifically search for it.

The fixed version (v5.1) is now on the App Store. It is identical to v5.0 but without the message saying it was a beta. v5.0 was only on the App Store for about 2 hours so many thanks to Apple's App Store review team for turning it round so quickly

Great work, @cfc!

As always, I had to manually update WOD on my Apple Watch through the Appstore on the watch.

Yes, it seems that Apple still don't update the corresponding watch app when you update the iPhone app.

Also, apologies to anyone running the app on a series 1 or 2. The always on display requires watchOS 8 and that will not run on those devices. Someone mentioned this on twitter and I found a link that may help:

If anyone with a series 1/2 does manage to use it to download v4.9 then please let me know how, so that I can help anyone else who installs v5.1 and can't use the app on their watch.

So it's insanely hot here in the mid-Atlantic region and I sometimes end runs these days completely drenched and unable to interact with the Apple Watch. I just want to be able to end the run. I have my buttons configured thusly:
  • Crown + Side Button - Screen Lock
  • Action Button - New Interval
  • Action + Side Button - Pause/Resume
I hate to lose any of those because I use them a lot. I keep the screen locked during the run so I don't get accidental inputs from sweat.

In the stock workout app when it's too rainy or I'm too sweaty to end the workout, I use Siri by holding down the crown and asking to end the workout. Works really well. Are there any plans to allow shortcuts for WorkOutDoors? Even if it's just a few basic functions, such as "Start a run workout in WorkOutDoors" and "End my WorkOutDoors workout" it would be really helpful.

Shortcuts are on my to-do list but not as requested as other features, so not high on the list. Sorry about that.

Ok, good to know that you will work on it sometime.
Thanks a lot for the incredible app and the response in here.
Have a nice day!!

You may program the action to water lock at the start of a running, and then the crown+side button might be used to end the workout. Using the crown to change screens you would have a completely touch-free sports watch.

Hello,

Thank you for this latest version and all your hard work.

I have a question regarding the AOD (Always On Display). I still see the time displayed even though I'm on WOD. Is this normal?

Regards,

Exactly the same thing is happening to me... I updated to 5.1 a few hours ago and AOD doesn't seem to work.
I saw in a previous post that the Watch App wouldn't update when you update the iPhone App, so I went to the Watch AppStore, but I don't get any updates…

Is the watch app up to date (v5.1)? Apple usually don't update the watch app when you update the iPhone app, which is very annoying. To check go to the Settings on the watch app and tap More and then scroll down to the bottom.

If the app is not v5.1 then please go to the App Store app on the watch and install it from there. If it is not yet available then you may need to wait a while before it gets through Apple's systems.

Hi Ian,

Is there a way that I set POIs and street names bigger than this?
Line width is fine but text is not large enough for me. Size like this "Back" text would be great.
Using latest version with tip in the jar ;)

I had some problems tonight with a pair of pool swimming workouts. Everything was ok during the workouts, the distance was well calculated (500 m in both cases), but when the distance was saved into Apple health it was 0 m and 400m. The number of laps (20) and pool length (25m) are ok in Apple health. Calories are also slightly different, but this is a minor problem.

WOD 5.1, with iOS 17 Beta.

Ian,

Conga rats on the new version. AOD! Woo-hoo!

I did a couple short walks with it earlier today; first impressions are extremely positive.

One thing that would be nice (but quite possibly not possible / practical) would be for the map to update with wrist down … say, every several seconds or so? I intentionally kept my wrist down for a a few hundred feet or so, and it only updated when I finally raised my wrist. By that time, I was clearly nowhere near where the map said I was.

I’ll mention anything else I come across … but, again, it sure looks like you once again nailed it. Thanks!

If we've been testing the beta via TestFlight do we need to manually install the new 5.1 production version of the iPhone and Watch apps--from their respective app stores--or will the production version get pushed through via TestFlight? And, if we do install the AppStore version(s) will that preclude us from receiving future betas to test via TestFlight?

Thanks for the wonderful update, Ian!

When I updated WOD on the phone, the watch (Ultra) was updated too.
