The app uses Apple's workout system so the distance and speed for indoor walking will be exactly the same as if you used Apple's Workout app.

Using the barometer to determine elevation gain for the stairs workout has been requested a couple of times over the years so it is on my to-do list but very low down. Sorry about that. I would be slightly worried about the accuracy indoors.

Glad you like the app!
The indoor running shows Distance (Require Sensor) in Work-outdoors

Should i select estimated Distance instead of Total Distance?

For the Stairs i would use Gentler Streak until then?

Thanks a lot the prompt responses

Whereabouts is it saying that it needs a sensor for distance when indoor running? I will need to fix that because it doesn't need a sensor.

If you need elevation for indoor workouts then you will need a different app. Sorry.

I know @cfc has this capability in his list of upcoming features. If I understand correctly you will be able to create multiple running profiles for example and configure the screens differently for each. I would like put my vote in for getting this feature before the navigation stuff. It feels like a fairly simple feature in comparison but would be very valuable to many of us that use the app. I routinely switch between trail running and road running and would like a totally different configuration for each. I understand if you can't because it is more difficult under the hood then it seems but it would be a great addition.
You're right, it is the feature I would , my English is very basic, sorry 😏

I think he means indoor walking. In the screens-tab and indoor walking it says “Distance (requires sensor)” under Categories.

On the apple watch, is there anyway to display the actual time while working out? This morning I caught myself at the gym wondering what time it was and would be nice to quickly glance at screen and see it without having to go to main screen. Not a big deal but just wondering:)

Hi - this used to be a feature (displayed in the top right corner above the workout metrics) - I notice now this has disappeared (Watch OS 10.1)

cheers

There is a metric you can add to a screen called “Time (HH:MM)”.

A couple of people have mentioned this with the watchOS 10.1 beta. I am hoping that it is a bug that they will fix before the release, but I will take a look and see if I can work around it.

Hello,

Requesting a specific list of battery maximization instructions and/or a menu-based easy button to maximize battery life while still tracking basics (maybe GPS, HR, ideally cellular still active)? I think my problems are primarily thanks to Apple for the WatchOS 10 roll-out. My battery life has been garbage since my watch updated itself to 10. I'm not used to worrying about battery on the AWU. I've been running everything for at least a couple of weeks at this point, and no amount of the OS settling/indexing/etc or power cycling seems to be helping. I think I've seen you recommend disable AOD and disable raise to wake. I'm getting a bit nervous about a couple of autumn longer-distance events on my calendar at this point. I'm curious if you happen to be able to quantify/estimate the burn for each feature. Live mapping is beautiful but with AOD seems to be the biggest battery hog. Raise to wake seems to struggle with thinking I'm trying to raise when I'm not. Cellular connectivity does not seem to stress the battery terribly, but maybe I just need to shut if off on long days. Really, any battery maximization insight and/or advice would be appreciated!!!

AWU
WatchOS 10.0.1
WOD watch 5.2
iOS 17.0.3

Thank you!

I can tell you that whilst working out, if you don't have your phone, Cellular will hurt the battery. I am currently mapping out battery life in preparation for an event next year and it halves with cellular.

There are so many variables that it is hard to know what has the most effect (and it varies from person to person anyway).

The best things to save power are to use low power mode (which disables cellular and AOD) and to disable wake on raise. Also avoid installing any new versions of watchOS or iOS in the days before.

It is hard to do any tests at the moment because, as you say and judging from social media, watchOS 10 still seems to be a battery hog for many people, despite it being a while since it was released.

I was under the impression that Apple required that no app prevent the time from displaying at the top right. If it's gone in 10.1 beta, my guess is it's a bug. I do most of my running in the dark and my close up vision at night while wearing contacts is terrible so I have a hard time seeing the small clock at the top right without holding my arm really still. Lately I've been using Siri to get the time while I'm running. "Siri, what time is it" and she will read the time out loud. I always feel a little silly using my voice to ask a "watch" what time it is but at 5am no one is around to hear me anyways. Hahaha

I think it is a bug too. Hopefully it is obvious enough that they will fix it in the next beta.

Otherwise I will attempt to work around it somehow by trying to determine what I am doing that is preventing it from being displayed in watchOS 10.1.

Can confirm that this bug is still present in the latest beta (released today)

Thanks for a great app! Is it possible to alter the default "Name" of the workout when sending to Strava? At the moment a morning run (for example) comes into Strava as "Wednesday Morning Run". Is there any way to adjust these default parameters or even better, alter the name of the workout on the watch before uploading to Strava?

Not at the moment. It is on my to-do list but not high on the list. Sorry about that.

Yes, I definitely rebooted the watch.
I’ve also tried changing the accents and even changed the Siri voice (from Dutch to English UK) by this also didn’t help.

I’m curious if I’m the only one with this issue?

@SisyphusMD I see you’re using the voice function as well. Do you use it with Bluetooth earplugs and is the volume loud enough for you?
Fortunately I have not had the issue you’re having yet. The volume has been good on mine. Sorry you’re having the difficulty

Hi, I have an idea for the upcoming navigation. It would be great if the navigation functions could be used even if there is no WOD activity.
I often run the activity in the native Apple app, but on WOD I turn on the map with the route and I use both apps at the same time.
Do you expect to implement navigation independent of activity? Thank you

To be honest I hadn't even thought about whether it would require you to be in a workout yet, but I will bear it in mind because it sounds useful.

However I probably won't go too much out of my way to allow it in the first version with navigation. This is because in the future I may offer a "No Workout" activity type which does not start a workout and offers a limited subset of metrics. The app could then be used to provide navigation or interval guidance whilst using another app for the workout. However this is not in my short-term plans.

Hi everibody,
Is there a way to know the percentage of battery drain during a workout ?
It's hard to know because watchOS 10 only reports it to the app in 5% levels. The latest version of the app did log the battery use per hour for a while but I removed it when I found out the limitation of watchOS 10.

So after three years of running with WOD I had my very first crash. I will list some details that may be useful.
1: Lately I've been starting my runs with the big green button so I can get a HR lock before starting. On this day I lowered my wrist for a few secs, the screen went off, then lifted it back up and immediately started the run without giving it a few secs like I normally would.
2: When I got to the 1 mile mark I didn't get the usual voice announcement. I figured the GPS glitched and my run was short but after I was a good 200ft past the 1 mile mark I glanced at my watch I was at 1.03 miles.
3: According to the recovered run it crashed at 1.45 miles.
4: About 1.75 miles into my run I noticed the app crashed. I started it back up and did about 3 more miles and all was fine, including the announcements at every mile.

AOD is disabled. I was not running with music so no other apps were running. If there is any other info I could gather, let me know. One crash in 3 years is damn impressive though. Even my Garmins crashed more often than that.

Sorry that you had a crash. A new version of watchOS always means that crashes are more likely at this time of year, and a substantially rewritten WOD possibly makes it even more likely!

Please could you send me the wkt file for that workout and I will take a look. To do this tap the Export button 3 times quickly and email to info@workoutdoors.net

Also please could you send me any log files beginning with "WatchMap" or "Jetsam". To do this go to Apple's "Watch" app on the iPhone and tap General and then Diagnostic Logs. If they appear as “null” when you try to send them then please try again in an hour or so as they sometimes seem to take a while to be available. They are also deleted pretty quickly so often there is a narrow window to see them.

No worries if you can't send the logs because Apple send me crash logs if users have enabled them. At the moment crashes seem very rare as usual, and the majority (95%) of those that happen are in watchOS code, which I usually can't do much about.
