Hi, are you adding Final Surge, TrainingPeaks, and other platforms to import workouts?

I'm using the native Workouts app for my running training plan because it syncs with Final Surge, but I miss using Workoutdoors and all the customization. Also, the native app has a little problem with pace alerts; you have to rely on Siri to know if you're in or out of a pace range, which can be annoying. With Workoutdoors I can set it so it just gives haptic feedback and I can just look at my watch to see the pace data field color to know if I'm in range. The native app does not provide any visual guidance.

Would be cool to have my workouts sync to Workoutdoors instead. Hope it's on the roadmap.

Importing schedules from FIT files is on my to-do list. I have coded it up to work with the current interval schedules, but they don’t yet support nested repeat loops. I asked around on these forums a few months back and most people said there would be complaints if I released without supporting nested repeats.

So I decided to hold fire because nested loops would take a while to implement and there are higher priorities at the moment.

However watchOS does not allow nested loops in structured workouts either and watchOS 10 allows other systems to send it workouts. So I am reconsidering whether to allow FIT import, and maybe also add the ability to export to watchOS 10.

My current plan is to wait and see what Training Peaks do before deciding (I don't get many requests for Final Surge). However they haven't released anything yet and to be honest I may be deep into the navigation improvements by the time they do, so I may not add it in the near term. Sorry about that.

Thanks for a great app! Is it possible to alter the default "Name" of the workout when sending to Strava? At the moment a morning run (for example) comes into Strava as "Wednesday Morning Run". Is there any way to adjust these default parameters or even better, alter the name of the workout on the watch before uploading to Strava?
I think there is at least a workaround: if you upload from the phone app in the workouts list instead than with the button on the watch at the end of the workout you can set a customised name and then export to Strava. It should appear in Strava directly with your customised name, and in the workout list on WOD too. It was the standard way to do before cfc added the quicker direct export button on the watch app, but I think now you still have the choice to do so if you prefer. @cfc please correct me if I’m wrong.

That is correct. Sorry, I should have mentioned that. If you don't use automatic uploads and don't specifically upload from the watch then you can change the workout name in the iPhone app before tapping Export and then Upload to Strava.

To be honest I hadn't even thought about whether it would require you to be in a workout yet, but I will bear it in mind because it sounds useful.

However I probably won't go too much out of my way to allow it in the first version with navigation. This is because in the future I may offer a "No Workout" activity type which does not start a workout and offers a limited subset of metrics. The app could then be used to provide navigation or interval guidance whilst using another app for the workout. However this is not in my short-term plans.
Navigation without starting a workout would be great! I use the native app for the activity, but WoD for the map currently.

Why not only WOD?
Two use case cases 1) when cycling with a Garmin head unit I much prefer the maps on my wrist from WoD and 2) I need to track activities using the native app for health insurance benefits - activities created by 3rd party apps don’t get any credit

Ian, after installing a new beta version do I need to “send yesterday’s watch settings”.
Also with today’s beta when I started the app on my watch it asked about allowing permissions again. I allowed all permissions but it didn’t properly write my workout time to Apple so I had to unallow all permissions and then reallow them again in the health app on my phone and it worked after that.

Hello guys

I registered a swimming activity this morning by the Apple fitness app and I noticed it is not synced in WOD app.

How does I import it in WOD ?

Many thanks for your help

I was under the impression that your WOD activity was synced with the official Apple fitness app but not the other way around. Why did you not log the swim in the WOD app?

You shouldn't need to send the watch settings because they should be unchanged by installing the beta.

The new beta will write the new watchOS 10 cycling sensor metrics (power, cadence etc) to Apple's Health system, so needs to ask for permission to do this.

It also asks for read permission but only so that it doesn't have to ask again in the future. It won't yet read from cycling sensors paired with watchOS (only those paired with the app), but that may change in the future and I don't want to pester people for permissions again when I add that ability.

As @Cowboy8467 says the app only writes workouts to Apple's Health system. It does not read workouts created by other apps.

This is because if there are any bugs in such apps then I would need to debug them, which I don't want to do.

I would like to use the official app just to try, and I’m not familiar with the WOD for swimming.

Hi. I installed the newest beta today. Unfortunately, the WOD complication has completely disappeared from my watch.

Is this a known issue ?

Someone else mentioned that. I guess that adding support for the Smart Stack and large widgets has removed support for some of the old complications. Sorry about that. I will fix it in the next beta but in the meantime start the app using the Smart Stack.

Hi @cfc perhaps already asked but reviewed some recent posts and did not see - any idea when the WorkOutdoors icon will be avail to be added to the watchOS 10 dock?

This is possible in the beta so should be working in the next version on the App Store.

Hi @cfc

When you workout using a route, now is possible to see where you are in the map, would it be possible to have a view of the altimetry to come?, not just the past based on the route loaded.

For example, a point or vertical line indicates where you are, the part already traveled remains in a softer color (50% for example) and the slope in color.

Maybe ideally on the layout using all the wide of the screen.

Thanks,

This is part of the navigation improvements that I plan to start work on after the next release, which will add support for the watchOS 10 Smart Stack.

These navigation features will take many months so I will probably release smaller updates in the meantime. For example if Apple allow third party apps to use the new Double Tap gesture then I will release a version supporting that.

Thinking about buying this app after getting the U2. Can you create and edit your own routes on a map within this app, or do you have to upload a gpx file?

You can't create routes with the app, but there are plenty of other apps and systems which allow you to create GPX files.

Hy Ian.
I have a quick question. Do you how, if it' s possible to stop positive ascent during a ride where I climb by pedaling and also by ski lift. I've put the activity on hold when I got up with the lift but the positive ascent is still counted. Thanks

The best way to do that is to manually pause.
