The complications do seem unreliable since the latest version. I had to rewrite them to support the Smart Stack and some people have reported problems.

However these problems have also gone away for a few people, so I suspect it takes iOS/watchOS a while to catch up when you change the way a complication is implemented. As a result I am going to leave it a few weeks before I worry about them.
I'm having the same or similar issue, just started up today. Watch and phone WOD apps are the latest (5.3.4 I believe) and updated to watch OS 10.1. Suddenly there are two "WorkOutDoors" options to choose from in the list of complications. Choosing the top one puts in a weird, incorrect icon which will still launch WOD. Choosing the second from the list puts in nothing (an empty complication) and it does not launch the app. This persists through a couple of restarts of phone and watch.

I saw on a different thread that people are having similar issues with other complications like HR, so maybe this is not a WOD issue.

For what it's worth, WOD definitely used to count for the 7 workout week (I have 130 of them and only use WOD) but I just checked then and the last time I got it was in August. I'm thinking that maybe Apple have stopped counting WOD since the iOS17 / watchOS 10? I never look at those specific workout stats so hadn't noticed the change as I track all my workouts in Strava but I could see that would be a bit annoying. Things like move streaks seem to still work fine.
Thanks,

Yeah, I am connected to friends and family, and we like to see each others activities and awards and stuff, so it's important to have all that stuff working.

Maybe WOD is just too complicated for me... lol. I mainly like it because of the maps, but I think the AW is getting off line maps fairly soon, so I'll just wait and see how that pans out.

That is interesting. I hadn't heard of other complications having similar problems so maybe it is a watchOS issue. I assumed it was because I have changed the app from Apple's old way of implementing complications to their new way (in order to support the Smart Stack).

A couple of people have reported the double complications, which I assume is iOS showing both the old complication and the new complication. I am not too worried about that, mainly because it isn't a major issue, but also because it will probably go away when iOS figures things out.

More worrying is the blank complication for a few people. At the moment I am assuming it is another glitch in the transition from old complications to new ones, but if it persists then I will investigate.

I was originally getting a blank complication for WODs (see screenshot below). Now I have a pretty odd looking complication that I was able to add back when I went to edit the watch face.

Edit: And right after I posted the above, it's back to blank again :)

Well I uninstalled WOD from my iPhone, and had some weird things happened.

When I deleted the data from apple health, WOD was still in the settings under motion and fitness. Then I noticed WOD did not get removed from my apple watch ultra when I uninstalled it. Once I removed it from the watch, it was then gone from the motion and fitness settings.

When I went to change the action button back to the native workout app, it would not work, and the Workout app was not available under the action button APP selection box.

Once I restarted the phone and the watch, I was then able to set the action button back to the native workout app.

Now, my altitude on the compass app seems to be stuck at about -60ft. The altitude where I am is about +30ft., and it has always read correctly (+/- a few feet) before this.

I tried restarting the phone and the watch again, but that did not help.

So with the latest release do cycling sensors paired with watchOS 10 automatically work with WOD?
No. The app now writes the cycling data from cycling sensors paired via WOD to Apple's Health system, but it does not read them from watchOS. I will allow them to be read via watchOS in the future, but probably not until I next work on the sensor functionality, which won't be for a while.

That's interesting. WatchOS must know about the complication then. Have you completed a full workout with the app since updating to the latest version?

Unfortunately if you have deleted WOD then those issues are probably watchOS related. It shouldn't be able to cause those problems even if it was installed, and can't be causing them now.

Thanks you. Was not sure, but after my walk today, the altitude is back to normal now.

Today I was running, listening via my AirPods Pro to downloaded music on my AW Ultra. (Bluetooth was switched off on my iPhone, as I don't want the AirPods to suddenly switch to the iPhone during running.) Voice notifications for intervals were working fine.

Until I received a phone call that I answered on my AW. After finishing the call, the music resumed but... no WOD voice notifications anymore. A bit inconvenient when you are following a schedule.

During the run, I opened the Settings menu and switched Voice Off and On again a few times. But it did not help: the WOD voice notifications were no more. Ian, could this be a bug?

I am running the latest of everything (WatchOS 10.1, WOD on iPhone and Watch 5.3.4).

Try rebooting the watch. The app just asks watchOS to speak a phrase and it does the rest. But sometimes it seems to get confused and needs rebooting.

Thanks Ian for the suggestion: rebooting the watch resulted in WOD speaking 'test' again when pressing the + and - buttons in the Settings/Voice screen.

So it works again. I understand it is WatchOS going wrong here, just hope it does not occur too often (as rebooting your watch in the middle of a workout is not an option)

I have heard this a few times over the years, but not for a few weeks. I had hoped that it had been fixed but I guess not.

I’ve had this happen every now and again … middle of a workout, the voice announcements just stop (but the beep / vibration continues). Sorry for not mentioning it … by the time I’ve caught my breath after a workout when it’s happened, snarfed lunch, and rushed out the door to class, I’ve forgotten it even happened.

I vaguely remember that one time it might have happened when my wrist motion triggered Siri’s “listen on wrist raise” input mode. I’ve since turned that off and I don’t think it’s happened since. But maybe that could be something to futz around with to see if it’s a way to reproduce the bug?

I just downloaded the app, and it looks great! I’m so glad to be able to get accurate mileage via speed sensor while mountain biking using my watch. I haven’t used it on a real ride yet, but have speed sensor question.

I have multiple bikes that each have a wheel speed sensor. From what I can tell, I have to go into the settings and select which wheel sensor I want use before I start the workout.

Is there any way to make it so the Watch just uses whichever sensor is awake?

Thanks!

I suspect it is a Siri issue. The app just asks Siri to speak a phrase and watchOS does the rest. Maybe sometimes when Siri is already being used by something else then it causes problems.

I have looked into it a few times over the last year or so and never worked out what is happening because I could never reproduce the problem. So it seems very rare, but the next time I look into it I will try overloading Siri to see if that helps.

Not at the moment but I plan to improve the sensor functionality at some time in the future and will bear that in mind. It won't be for a while though because navigation improvements and then custom activities are currently top of my list. Sensor improvements is probably the third most popular request at the moment though.

Hi, first of all thanks for the outstanding app ! :D

I got a strange problem when I upload my workouts to Strava.

I usually go on my running workout only with the watch and without the phone.

When I came back home then I upload (via WOD) the workout to Strava. Sometimes via the watch app others via the phone app.

But every time I upload them via the phone app I got a strange wourkout title. Instead with the watch app is perfect.

Below is an image from Strava for a wrong title workout. I defined the workout title inside WOD.

Exact title is

10’ Corsa - 2’ Recupero x2

Strange eh ?

That is strange. My guess is that the ' character is being converted to allow it to be used as the name of the file sent to Strava, and that is why it appears like that. I will see if I can fix it but in the meantime I recommend using something else instead of the ' character. Maybe use "min" instead.

Thanks for the reply.. the title is not a problem I can use "min" or something else :) Take your time for the fix..

Hi Ian,

today I made a longer hike and I had the problem that the battery percentage was only shown in 5 % steps (95 -> 90 -> 85 and so on).

Watch is on OS 10.1 with WOD 5.3.4 running on it.

Yes, this has been the case since watchOS 10.0. It only seems to report battery levels to the nearest 5% for some reason.

Not sure if I am doing something wrong but for the past two runs where I am wearing gloves, the app will close while im in the middle of a run. I have the crown dial facing my finger tips and the only thing I can think of is maybe the glove is spinning the dial and closing the app or ending it? Sometimes when I am recording from my phone and using the watch as a viewer, the dial will rotate where the zoom is affected so I am sure the dial is being rotated while I am running. Is there a setting by chance that is making the app close when the dial is pressed or spinned? Again, its not that the WOD minimizes to background, it completely closes and when I open it, its asking if I would like to start tracking a run after I had already started it. or Maybe its a bug that some have experienced as well?

Im on the latest version.

Similar issue as that shown on the right hand image. Complication shows as a blank circle (sans icon). Still functions just fine. Will see if it changes after tomorrow am workout.

Update: I managed/ edited the face complication straight from the watch (Ultra2) (Not from the iPhone app) and it now shows the graphic of the icon properly.
