Thanks for that link. It looks interesting. I am a bit worried about their use of personal data (IP address and location), although it wouldn't be an exact location.

Also the 20 requests per second limit was slightly worrying. The app would probably only request weather data once at the start of a workout, so it is unlikely that the limit would be exceeded given the relatively low number of users of WorkOutDoors. However it could possibly be exceeded occasionally (e.g maybe at some race starts).

Generally it looks good, so I will bear it in mind when I eventually look at weather.

There are many things to like about WorkOutDoors. I use it several times a day. One feature that I really like is the workout display; especially for cycling and especially the heart rate data including heart zones.

Unfortunately, I'm old and even with reading glasses I have some difficulty seeing the workout screen on an iPhone 14 Pro.

I've searched around and haven't been able to find an iPad or Mac app that will display workout data (from a tcx/fit file) in the way that WorkOutDoors does.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to wonder about this. Please let me know what I'm missing.

Note that I admit that I did not look through all 270 pages of this thread.

Glad you like the app. Sorry that the text in the iPhone analysis screens is a bit small. The main focus is the watch app so I probably don't spend as much time on the iPhone screens as I should. Part of the reason is that there are so many other apps and websites that allow you to analyse workouts, so I figure that my time is best spent on the experience during the workout, which only the app can control.

So there are loads of other analysis options out there and I am sure that some must offer what you want. I can't think of one off the top of my head but I only have experience of a few systems. Hopefully someone else reading this can help.

No, it's fine for what it is. You've managed to squeeze a lot of very well organized data and many ways of looking at it in a very small space. It's a fine achievement.

I'm talking luxury here as opposed to utility.

Thanks again for what is one of the finest iPhone apps that I use. And, yes, I have tipped.

I'm sorry if this has already been discussed, but have you considered a map render with trail marker support?

Even without the symbols, but at least color coding the paths would be great.

If the route file has navigation waypoints in it then the app will speak out those directions if you are following the route, even if you are offline.
Thanks for the very detailed response (which I largely cut). How common are waypoints in the route file? For example, do routes created and exported via say, Strava or RunGo typically have them?

Unfortunately not very common, which is why I extended route importing to include TCX and FIT as well as GPX. I don't know about RunGo but I don't think Strava include them.

The best source I have found so far is RideWithGPS.

Thanks! I use RideWithGPS for my bike commuting, but maybe I should extend that to more activities. If I download a GPX from an app and open it in a text editor, could you say what I should look for to confirm it has waypoints?

Look for something like:

<wpt lat="y" lon = "x">
<name>Turn Right</name>
<desc>Turn Right into High Street</desc>
</wpt>

What is with Komoot? I think it is the number one creation tool for navigation in Europe.

Every GPS device I know has a interface to Komoot.
I have a Komoot subscription (amongst many others). If anyone can tell me how to get a file out of them (of any type) that contains turn by turn navigation then I will make sure that WorkOutDoors can read it.

so what you are saying is that the GPX that i export from Komoot to WorkOutDoors doesn't contain navigation data?

That is correct, as far as I know. I just tried again with an existing route and with one that I created and in neither case did the GPX file contain navigation.

It's strange because Komoot clearly calculates turn by turn directions for use in their own app, but from what I can tell they don't include them in the files that they export. I would be happy to be proved wrong though, because then they would be a great source of routes with navigation.

@cfc
I have just looked at a Komoot file and there are really no TBT instructions in it.

I'm totally surprised because I only create my routes on Komoot and then export them to Wahoo, for example. But I have TBT on my Wahoo Bolt v2. Then they are probably created by Wahoo.

Strange

It could be that Komoot send the route to Wahoo in a different format which includes the TBT instructions.

I don’t think it is strange. Route calculation is best done on device as otherwise it would be cumbersome to reroute someone back on track (with proper TBT) in case you left the route.
Also these devices normally allow you to create routes on the go (e.g. bring me home) so they need to have TBT calculation anyway.

I guess they would be flexible with rare overload-exceptions at race starts, etc. You may contact them. I know there are runners (on Strava) in the organisation, which probably would enjoy your planned feature.

What if you use the Komoot API directly? I sent you a link to the developer area a few month ago.

Maybe you can then get up routes with TBT

Unfortunately Komoot only offer an API to select hardware manufacturers: https://support.komoot.com/hc/en-us/articles/7464746034458-komoot-API

Also I don't plan on doing any specific API connections if I can avoid it, and certainly not in version 1 of the app's TBT features. There are too many such companies and APIs can change. If a company doesn't support TBT in the standard route file formats (GPX, TCX, FIT) then unfortunately the app will not show TBT.

Even without TBT the new version will still have extra features over the current version, such as an elevation profile graph and distance/time/ascent remaining.

Hi!

As I have already said in other posts, congratulations for your work!

Would it be possible to implement a feature that allows the export/import of interval schedulers in json format?

This could be a great help for users to be able to modify the interval schedulers ourselves from a computer or save a backup of this.

Personally i find it very uncomfortable to have to create and maintain them from a mobile phone and I use the application less than I would like to because of this.

Even without TBT

What about GPX file generated in mapy.cz I sent you? Were the TBT notifications imported?
If so, one can easily send GPX from Komoot to mapy.cz add TBT info and export to WOD.

such as an elevation profile graph and distance/time/ascent remaining

And distance to user-added POIs, right? Right? ;)

I plan to add import / export of interval schedules in the future, but at the moment navigation and custom activity types are higher priority. Sorry about that.
