No, there is another way. You can download it from the Stryd app and open it in RunGap via share sheet. No need for an extra step with health. This preserves power data. I do this daily.
Nice way, I tried and it worked. Now I can see in Strava even Power. Thks a lot.

My heartfelt thanks to @cfc for the introduction of repeated heart rate alerts as previously requested.
This app support is setting the standard for what every app should be.
Thanks for a job well done.

Do I get it right that with WatchOS 7 it is STILL not possible to get a Third Party AOD screen? Still this annoying time screen? At least with the latest official WOD version and watchos7 Public Beta 1 I only get time AOD screen when using WOD. Maybe developers need to develop it? Hope still here.

You are right - watchOS 7 doesn't allow third party apps to access the always on display. I don't think that there is anything that developers can do about it.

Poor Apple. Really a little mad as a Garmin user who really loves your app (and support). To everyone: It is so worth it really to anyone interested on configurable screens and settings. The alerts for almost everything, the whole app reminds me a lot of customizing activities on my Garmin the way I want it.
It is the only app that could make me use the AW INSTEAD of my Garmin. But the time AOD from Apple is so annoying and I know Apple almost never listens... Very annoying APPLE!!!!!

Is there a setting on your app or Apple Watch itself to turn on display by wrist moving only for special apps? I have it turned off because of AOD, I don't need it.

Unfortunately the "Wake on Raise" option is for the whole watch and as far as I know cannot be configured on a per-app basis, or controlled by an app.

I was also expecting Apple to allow 3rd party access to AOD this year. I could understand them not allowing it last year when developers would have only had a few day's notice to make sure our apps did not use too much battery, but this year we could have had several months between WWDC and the release of watchOS 7. I am sure they have their reasons though.

A couple of things...the thing that kills me the most about the Stryd app has definitely been amplified in COVID work from home conditions. I use it daily to accurately track walking on my treadmill desk, and the Stryd app insists on only "run" as a workout type. The OCD part of me wants to capture the walk, but not miscategorize it as a run. I am very very much looking forward to Stryd integration into WOD!

Recently I have been biking a lot, and this is not a request so much as a major kudos. I have been tracking all of my rides with both WOD and a Garmin Edge 530+Heart Rate monitor+speed and cadence sensors, and I am BLOWN away by how well WOD performs as compared to the Garmin dedicated bike ecosystem. Honestly, if WOD could somehow support cadence sensors, there would literally be no difference in the data. WOD, with the automatic Strava upload, has become the canonical app of record for my workouts, as it also sends better data to Apple Heath than Garmin does. And WOD auto-pause works more accurately than Garmin as well.

That is great to hear! I haven't started on Stryd integration yet because I am still working on part 2 of the recent release. However it is top of my list (alongside route improvements) after that is released.

One possible spanner in the works is if I need to to do lots of work for the series 6 watch. However the latest rumours that they will announce it by press release seem to indicate that it won't be too different from the series 5. Part of me wants to see lots of new features in the series 6, but the other part (the lazy part) is hoping that it won't distract me too much from my current plans.

Does WOD drain the battery more? Did a bike trip yesterday and with the original workout app my AW5 drained about 13 %, however WOD drained 22% yesterday.

As far as I know the app does not use any more power than the native app. The main battery draws during a workout are generally hardware or watchOS related rather than app software.

The battery usage of the watch itself can vary quite a lot depending on various things such as whether you have your iPhone with you, what other apps are running (audio streaming uses a lot of power), whether you have updated watchOS recently (after which it can do some indexing in the background) etc. Sometimes synching music or podcasts can be happening in the background without you realising.

In ideal conditions you should be able to get 10+ hours of use from WorkOutDoors.

If it seems power hungry again then please try rebooting the watch in case watchOS is playing up.

I hope that helps.

I bought your app a while ago but did not really do much with it until yesterday.

Downloaded and installed the app again on iPhone and Apple Watch, changed some settings and went cycling for two hours with the app running on the Apple Watch.
All the info I want during the workout was perfectly presented by the app, could not wish for more.

After returning home and ending the workout, I looked at all the data the app presented me and quickly after that a pop-up came that the workout could be uploaded to Strava, opened the Strava app and there was my workout, with all the details etc I used to have when using the Strava watch app I used before.

Wow, wow what a great app, works perfectly, is highly configurable and can present almost everything you want, will advise the app to my friends who also do a lot of cycling.

Wil rate the app in the App Store with 5 stars and hope there will be a lot more nice features coming in the future.

Keep up the good work !!

Thank you sir, for your fast reply. i really like your app, now I can customize like I want :) The only problem was with sync from Watch to iphone and iphone to watch. Took me 10 min and several tries to load a Route to the AW. I pressed Send to watch and nothing happened. Same after my workout. It didn't sync to iPhone until I turned both off and on 2x...

The data transfer is performed by watchOS and iOS and can be unreliable. Sorry about that. Sometimes rebooting both devices helps.

Glad you like the app!

I have the same problem and I found out that starting an activity (and stop it after a few seconds) on the watch starting the sync.

Good to know. Maybe that prompts watchOS into sending it if it forgets?

Did I see right, when I do a hiking or bike tour and click on pause, the AW still check my Puls every 5-10 sec? Why can’t that pause to the regular 5-10 min without workout? Tomorrow I will go on a 4h walk with probably 1h pause for eating so that will kill my battery. Any solution without to end the workout ?

To be honest I have never checked if the heart rate is still frequently checked when the workout is paused. No-one has ever mentioned it before. The HR frequency is controlled by watchOS - the app has no control over how often it is checked.

I wish it did have control because then I could request frequent updates outside of a workout so the watch could get a lock before the user starts. This is something Apple need to give an app permission to do and they never reply to my requests.

I guess the app could cancel its request for heart rates whilst the user is paused, and then request them again on resume. However that it could take a while to get a lock again. As I say no-one has ever mentioned it before so it probably isn't much of an issue. What do people think? I guess I could make it an option?

Today was my first „real“ hike with WOD and I’m really impressed. The route was complete unknown to me and basically there were nearly no signs for orientation but with your app I never went on the wrong path. Yes the AW checks every few seconds the HR, even when I click on pause but I got a small Power Bank from Belkin so I just Charged while we ate. It‘s so useful to adjust the screen to my wishes! My Gf complained all the time about the stock workout app (because she couldn’t see some stats) honestly your app with all the function is way too cheap :)

Vegas, baby!
Ok. I think I am an idiot, but I just want to confirm it.

The iPhone app. Can you start and record a workout using just the iPhone half of the app? Or are all workouts only doable from the watch? I have the watch and I love the app. But I have other watches I like to wear at times and I was wondering if I can start and end a workout from my phone?

Thanks
Michael

Sorry, at the moment workouts must be run on the watch, with the iPhone app being only used for configuration and analysis.

In the future I plan to allow workouts to run standalone on the iPhone, but at the moment the app is focused on the watch.
