OMG that is so funny!! I did the same with my parents!!!

Although I think it looks like an amazing machine, I REALLY hate doctoring to Windoes myself! I think of this 2008 iMac and realize that in the 4 years I have been heavily using it, not ONCE have I had any problems, nor have I had to do a system wipe and restore etc.....

It looks like that's a common trend here. My parents were all about the Dell PC's and flip phones until I made them get a Mac and they chose to get a late 2009 27" iMac. Now they both have iPhone 5S's, iPad 4's, a 15" rMBP and a MBA. So yes I basically created monsters.

I digress, but I wouldn't pick up the HP for the obvious Windows reason, but I wouldn't want any of the graphics they offer. The Intel 4400 and 4600 are suited to what I would use an iMac for and I'm not a fan of Quadro cards.

The quadro cards are for professional apps like cad etc. and they excel at those applications. They tend to be twice as expensive as consumer cards so no they are not for everybody. They are for pro apps not gaming. That being said they are very good cards and built to last. Better built than any consumer card, hense the price.

Not all versions of windows are created equal. Windows 8.1 enterprise is very stable and has no bugs whatsoever. With that being said osx is still better.

I just picked up a retina 5k for my business. Fantastic machine, and fantastic display. :)

It replaced a older 2011 27 imac. It is a very dense display, sharp detailed. Colors are still not as good as my 27 hp dreamcolor pro monitors we have in house. Nor is the contrast or black level. The dreamcolor display can display billions of colors, the imac millions. One is 8 bit with 10 bit per color one is 10 bit with 2 bit via frc and 30 bit per color. 4k content is fantastic on both though.

Best imac ever built. By far. The z1 still has a better display. But these machines are not really comparable. One is a pro workstation one isnt. A better comparison would be a dell xps 27 or hp 27 all in one touch.

A z1 configured top spec can cost 7000! My Z1 is certified to run all pro applications. My retina imac cost 3000 out the door. No one is cross shopping these machines.

And no i wouldnt trade or get a z1 over this retina 27 imac if i had to choose between the two. The z1 is a better engineered machine, better display, upgradeable, and better engineered in my opinion. But is way more money. But it still runs windows. Now i dont mind windows it isnt bad but i prefer osx.

Now if they made a mac like the Z1! That would be perfect.:)

I love my iMac i7, 27" quad core (2008) but she is starting to see her age.

That being said, DAMN this machine from HP looks SWEET!!! A all in one powerhouse that you (yes you) can EASILY upgrade as various components become outdated......

The only issue I have with this is...... windows....... /wrists.

So, would any of you consider this as an alternative to your iMac as a replacement?
This looks like a terrific machine to install OS X on....
