Because the glare when the sun hits the screen protector makes the fingerprints more pronounced, also the glare itself is annoying. If I go naked combined with the higher brightness of the screen would most likely make the fingerprints less noticable and I won’t get the glare from the protector that is distracting.
Surprising you make it sound as if you get a lot finger prints even with the Screen Protector on it ? I do not get any Finger Prints at all. Maybe you should go for a reputed Brand of Screen Protectors then ?

It is impossible not to get fingerprints on it, you might not see them as well because of how the light refracts but they are there if you look for them. Once the light shines the right way you will see them though, especially if the brightness of the device isn’t high enough. Touching either screen or protector will leave more or less the same amount of oils behind so over time it will build up.

But regardless, the glare really kills protectors for me now. I never use cases or screen protectors normally, just been using them for the past devices when it comes the iPads but with the better screen I will want to go without.

I prefer film. I like how much easier the pencil slides against it. They are also easy to replace and cheap. I also prefer how seamless they look on devices. I tried glass once on my iPhone and it stuck out like a sore thumb. I have Applecare, so it's more about preventing scratches rather than shattering. A surface scratch will show as a rainbow on a bare screen and ain't nobody got time for that!

Nope. In all my 40 years I've never cracked a screen on anything and have never used any screen protectors (knock on wood) and I always get Apple Care so I always ride naked.

I have been using one on previous devices just for the easy of mind that I can take my sleeve and wipe off fingerprints and not care about scratches. But I have realised that the screen protectors increase glare enough so the fingerprints actually become more annoying on the screen protector. So for the mini-LED I will be going without it.
Since removing my screen protector, finger prints are somewhat less noticeable. If I do notice any, simply wiping them off with my sleeve does the job, sometimes even with the sleeve of my work coveralls. It's actually easier now to remove finger prints from the naked screen than from the protector. I avoid using sand paper, asphalt or concrete. What I do have is a simple casing without a cover that if I turn the phone upside down, the screen is kept about 2mm off the surface of whatever it's lying on.

Yes, because eventually the keyboard will add micro-scratches on my 1400€ device.
It will drive my "OCD" (Not really OCD) nuts.

Forget about getting a glass screen protector, which simply adds thickness and weight with very little benefit. I’d highly recommend getting a matte film screen protector for the iPad Pro instead. I’ve used one from iCarez for the past couple of years and it’s awesome.

Not only does the matte surface provide more resistance when using the Pencil, but it blocks just enough reflections to make it easier to use in brightly lit rooms. It also is easier to clean than the bare glass, imho. I can also say that it protected my iPad the one time it fell off a table onto a brick patio. The screen protector got damaged, but none of the scratches made it through the film onto the glass.
I'm a big fan of matte screen protectors though I'd prefer that Apple and other tablet makers offer a matte screen option instead.

I like them, and I use iCarez too, for the same reasons you stated... more resistance for the Pencil, cuts the glare from fingerprint smudges, easier to clean, AND depending upon a person's fingertips, less resistance when swiping.

I've also noticed more consistent resistance when using a matte protector with the Pencil. On the bare glass when the Pencil crosses a fingerprint smudge it's even more slippery.

Matte screen protectors aren't popular, and I wouldn't mind that except for the fact that there are fewer and fewer companies offering matte protectors as a result in the lack of demand.

Never thought that the Apple Magic Keyboard also causes Micro Scratches on a Naked iPad Pro Screen ? Does it Really ?

If the lint in your jeans pocket can cause micro-scratches to the iPhone screen. I bet overtime the dust/lint can micro-scratch the ipad screen aswell.

But if it scratches it or not, i'm not taking the risk. Better be safe than sorry in my books :p

But we aren't talking about the Lint in the Jeans Pocket. I particularly asked you about the Apple Magic Keyboard causing Scratch on the iPad Pro Screen.

Out of the box or if you use canned air regularly, probably not.
But if you carry the combo around the same lint can find it's way between the keyboard/ipad.

Also, some users have also issues where the macbook's keyboard can scratch the screen if there is pressure to the macbook. (Example carrying it around with a lot of other stuff in your backpack) I assume same thing can happen to the MKB/ipad.

My 12.9" iPad Pro 2018 screen make squeaking noises. So I have to use a matte screen protector. I hope the 2021 isn’t squeaking.

if you’re an artist or a student who takes notes using their iPad you best place a screen protector on that screen. Apple Pencil is notorious for scratching away the oleophobic coating and leaving visible grooves in the screen. Screen protector for the win. All other users who just consume media it may not be as necessary but a pristine screen does help when reselling in the future, IMO.
I have been using Apple Pencil for 2.5 years on my iPP 12.9 - NO scratches, dings etc from my pencil.... no screen protector on my iPads, but definitely on phones

First of all, those who keep saying they get AppleCare for their iPads. Apple won't replace the screen if it gets scratched will they?

Anyway, for me I always put a PaperLike screen protector on. I just like the way if feels, the way it reduces glare and the way it reduces finger prints. I did have a ESR one that was glass that was really good. It just felt like there was no protector on at all but, fingerprint magnet and loads of glare.

I do not really think the matte protectors reduce the screen that much, you can just increase the brightness. Anyone with cheaper alternatives to PaperLike please post. Thanks.

I plan on putting a glass screen protector on mine.... what I don't like is I was not able to find one without the notch. This surprised me as I have one on my phone without the notch cut out and never have any problems with face id or camera.

After putting one on a small phone, I was ready to stab myself in the head with a fork. I can't imagine putting one on a 12.9 inch screen without bubbles.

Have been using the magic keyboard since it came out, and zero scratching on my 12.9. I don't ever use screen protectors on iPad's, always on phones. Though I understand people who like them on iPads as well, I have just never had an issue on an iPad.

I understand that the risk for scratches in iPad is minimal, but changing the mini-led screen is probably a very expensive thing, so personally not taking any chances.
But i do understand people who won’t go through the trouble

Yeah I always always use a screen protector. If I scratch the display at least I can peel it off and put on a new one. Can’t do that with the display itself. And Apple won’t replace it just for scratches FYI, even if you have AC+. Been there, tried that.

there’s more reason to put glass screen protector on the mini LED iPad than ’regular’ ipads.
i’ve been using glass screen protectors on my devices for couple years now, not that i dont have AppleCare or what, but just i love my devices being PERFECT, SPOTLESS. Sure i can use my applecare to replace my iPad/iphone every couple months, but certainly not as frequently enough, there’s still scratches. (BTW, I’m using sapphire on my iphone, absolutely perfect, except the price).
i have never notice any reduction in picture or display quality, the only downside is reflection. it’s a bit annoying during the bright days (but not as annoying as a tiny scratch). With much brighter mini LED, i expect this to be less of a problem on the new iPad Pro.

ipad pro is the only apple device i would actually get applecare on. Any accidental damage whatsoever and it's an automatic $600+ replacement fee.

You are using Sapphire what ? on your iPhone ?

I have NEVER been able to get a screen protector on without bubbles or dust underneath. I can’t stand that! I’ll continue using iPPs without screen protectors. I just don’t like them. I take the utmost care of my devices plus like others have said AppleCare is always there if you ever need it.
