I ordered a paperlike for my 12.9. I will be drawing and i do not want the pencil damaging the screen or getting delayed by a thicker protector.

ordered a tempered glass matte and 2 clear glass, i'll try the matte finish first if it's too much of a distraction i'll use glass. I'm definitely using a screen protector my last ipad had a tiny scratch on the screen that drove me nuts.

I never understood people with screen films on. The films scratches way more easier than the glass so why would I want to have a scratched film on an expensive device?
Unless you want Matte finish or different 'stroke' resistance then films are useless and waste of money.
Just checked my Air 2 screen and its pretty much as good as new.

iPad is also different to iPhone as it doesn't live in your pocket so the chance for microscratches is pretty minimal (which i can see)

So yeah, no film for me. I see it as waste of money

Not trying to jinx myself... I haven't bought a screen protector for any of my devices. I got a free one for an iPhone many years ago and it looked okay for a bit, but as others have mentioned I couldn't stand the little dust particles that were on it. I don't ever scratch them... at least where it bothers the view more than the screen protector does.

Also, I have the applecare... if it were to really bother me.

If the screen protector effects the quality of the XDR, no thank you.

I would if I cracked the screen. That's what I did with my old iPad 3, I accidentally cracked the screen, but it was still fully functional, so I bought a tempered-glass screen protector, that allowed me to keep using the tablet's touchscreen without cutting my fingers or making it worse.

i'm less likely to drop an ipad and if i do the worst is it'll fall off the side of my couch/bed but still will be putting a protector on mine. scratches piss me off just knowing they are there even if it's just small faint ones and a screen protector also stops the oleophobic coating rub off over time, it'll stop an apple pencil wrecking the screen, and if you're using a magic keyboard it'll stop the keys marking the screen when it's closed!

i'd rather damage a £10 piece of glass that can be easily replaced instead of a device that cost anywhere between £999-2,149 and costs £129 to insure (+£39 excess) or £636 out of warranty.

I had a screen protector on my old iPad, got rid of it after a week or so. Found the quality to be worse, totally not worth the hassle of applying it. But then again, when I'm not using my iPad it's always in a smart cover like case at all times. This is not like an iPhone where I throw it into my pocket or bag with keys or something.

This. Scratches have also not been an issue for me, I'm just that careful to not let my screens get scratched in the first place. Indeed, you've paid a premium price for your device that Apple have spent millions developing, only for you to now cover it with a cheap piece of plastic. Umm, no.

As I mentioned earlier, my finger glides over the screen so much better now, the way Apple intended it to. Apple would not be the most valuable company in the world if they didn't know what they're doing.
You do know they make glass protectors…

I’m using a Spigen EZ protector when mine comes. I didn’t drop $1300 to not protect it. Yeah there is applecare, but that expires… how many screen protectors can you buy the price of applecare..

This is how my 9 year old iPad 3 looks like, never used any screen protector on it, only the original Apple folio case that has long disintegrated.

I'm getting 12.9 with Logitech Combo Touch case and no screen protector. Unless the tablet falls flat on uneven ground, there's simply no way for me to scratch or break the screen.

To all the new guys coming here and reading this thread we are not discussing should you apply a screen protector or not ? I am the OP of this thread and I made this amply clear in my first post. We are not discussing is Screen Protector worth it or not ?? So guys do not take this thread off track !!

What I was asking was, with respect to the XDR Display of the 12.9" iPad Pro would you be comfortable applying a screen protector on it which would potentially inhibit and restrict its true colours and brightness to pop out and shine !

We sre not talking here if Screen Protector are worth it or not !!

Please do not misinterpret or Hijack this thread ! Period !!
This is all speculation and no one knows how this screen will look with a protector on it. Regardless, two different screens both with protectors on it, the better display will still look better.

My question to the people here is with the new 12.9" getting the Mini Led and Liquid Retina XDR and all that JAZZ it is going to be a device which is going to have great Display and Picture Quality ! would you still slap a Glass Screen Protector on it ? would it not hamper the Viewing Joy from the Liquid Retina XR and Mini-Led powered 12.9" Screen of the 2021 iPad Pro ?
Hello OP of THIS thread, you indeed are discussing (or trying to make a discussion) if screen protector on 12.9 Pro is worth it or not, maybe you should have worded it out better. My point: if you treat your device well, forget about it.
To your point, do you really expect iPP 2021 display will look differently when used with screen protectors? We can already discuss its effects based on existing evidence: you trade screen quality for more protection, simple as that. Any layer you add on the screen will more or less change the image quality and feel of the original glass finish. More fingerprints, glare, the glass sticking out like sore throat. I've seen enough from my experience on iPhone and my other devices. You know best if you need it, depending on your use and how you treat your devices.

Honestly, unless you’re going outside with your iPad Pro and the sun is glaring down at your screen... don’t see glare being a problem.

slapping a flolab glass protector on it and calling it a day.

I removed a glass protector from my Pro because of indoor glare/reflection. When watching a video, I could clearly see my face and the background reflected back at me in the black bars and in dark scenes. I partially covered the screen with an iPad without a protector and a huge difference - it was easy to toss the protector after that.

Full brightness? How’s the bare glass screen holding up in regards to scratches, smudges, etc

I have glass protectors on all my devices. And I have cases on them too so they never break, plus extended warranty so no need AppleCare. I want to use my device freely without constant worrying about the scratches or drops. And the cost of glass protector and case is much lower than AppleCare in the long run.

I prefer tempered glass to film because film scratches too easily and is difficult to apply without any bubbles. And glare never bothers me, just change a direction.

For tempered glass ones, I got the multi pack ones with alignment frame. When I received my device, I put the frame on, peeled off the protective film then put on glass protector before any dust can make it in between. The whole process took 5 minutes, effortlessly, bubble free and with spare.

Ok we are not discussing here if and should one have a screen protector in the first place ? The thread talks about using a Screen Protector with regards to using it on the 12.9" XDR liquid Retina Display iPad Pro.

I use glass screen protectors since my first ipad pro - a tiny piece of grit was attached to the pencil, and it went 'SCREEEEEE' down the screen, leaving a long scratch. Too easy to get grit on the pencil or screen. The protectors are really good quality, and as long as you are careful you rarely get bubbles..
