Only $100 cheaper? Heck no.

But if it were $300 cheaper, sure.

Have you actually tried it? I lived with an iPhone SE 16GB for a few months. About 14GB taken up by the OS, so 2GB remaining. Constantly had to delete music albums off there whenever I wanted to listen to. Had to delete apps each time I needed a different app. It's not workable. 32GB minimum.

A 16GB iPhone 6s was not enough storage in 2015 so what makes you think a 16GB iPhone in 2023 would be a good purchase?

Many people have already ditched the point and shoot cameras and just relied on the iPhone as the camera of choice... Even some/a few professional photographers use the iPhone more than their professional grade cameras for taking photos and videos...

Even if you don't use the iPhone for taking photos and videos, installing multiple apps or even if you just have streaming apps on it, sooner or later, it will be already full...

As iOS gets bigger and bigger with each update, you will be forced to either manually delete the files stored locally or perform a factory reset/erase all content and settings before you can update to the latest version...

Do you think that 16gb is enough for the entry level iphones like the iphone 15 or iphone 15 pro? If apple were to make a cheaper 16gb model ($100 cheaper) would you buy it?
No, although I could get away with 64GB as I have a 128GB 14 PM with 90GB of free space left. I think with how much these devices cost and how cheap storage costs are the entry level should be 256GB. Apple may do just that this year too, increase prices and also the base storage.

And with the base storage increased, you should go for the higher one just looking at the slow storage speed issue with the Mac line...

Went from 128GB to 64GB phone without an issue: I have a TON of apps and media on it, and I still have more then 20GB of free space. :)

I do use the option where original size of videos / photos is saved in iCloud and load them when I need them, but it usually only last a very short time to load them up, so it's not an issue. BIG space saver.

Huge multi-GB apps can easily be simply offloaded and reinstalled whenever needed.
That’s a lot of micromanagement that not everyone is happy with. Ultimately, time is the limiting factor, and most would choose to pay more for less time fiddling around tech.
Why ask this question, which makes no sense? Is this some kind of click-baiting?
I suspect this too.
Not to mention iOS itself can take up 16GB in no time.
On top of someone mentioning the inability to source brand new 16GB NAND chips (mostly in large quantity) nowadays.

As someone who uses storage configurations that others reject right away such as 256 GB on laptops and 64 GB on iPad/iPhone because they’re big enough for me (I use cloud/external SSDs a lot) - I would definitely not get a 16 GB phone these days.

Nothing below 256GB.

A RAW picture takes 77MB... With 16GB, the OS, and 20% free storage so that everything runs smooth, I'd be able to take like 50 pictures and call it a day? No thanks. That'd be completely insane to even consider 16 GB.

Wouldn’t get a 16GB, 32GB or 64GB model.

Only 128GB is enough.

But I’d still go bigger than 128GB if possible.

I thought this was talking about RAM. If it's 16GB Ram, yes. I expect it to be released on the Pro models in a few years.

If this is about storage, NO.

1. iOS takes up about 9GB. System Data takes up about 7GB - about 16GB as is. iOS also likes some space free.
2. Who is the target market? Is this for poor people in Asia/ Africa? If so, why would they want to buy this, and not a used iPhone?
3. Can Apple even get the 16GB chips? I don't think anyone is making 16GB chips.

Offloading is fine but I’d really rather not do that as re-downloading multigigabyte apps in low/no signal areas is not ideal.

I’m on a 64GB device the now and it’s fine but I wouldn’t spend £1000+ on a new phone with only 64GB of storage.

many people don't really use the camera anymore though so maybe people who are more used to using safari or mails wouldn't mind?

That’s too niche of a market for a new product when it comes to Apple. Even smaller than the market we have for a mini model. They won’t bother with it.

I have a 16gb iPad Air 2 which I rarely use, but it has a handful of apps, no music, no video, no pictures, a fresh iOS install, and it only has around 2gb of space free. So no, it would be a terrible idea. Not to mention that the devices slow down considerably when approaching full storage.

The system files just to run iOS is large. Right now it’s 13gb on my iPhone.
I wouldn’t. 16GB would be too small to hold the OS and apps.

I know it’s not exactly the same but...

The AW 5 (circa 2019) and all subsequent models so far include 32GB of storage — and we know Apple isn’t known to be generous in that regard. Basically, I think the Apple Watch evolution is a solid cue/hint here.

I think 64 GB is the bare minimum to just use OS + basic app decently.
If you want any more of that to exploit your photo phone capabilities or any games you need to add an iCloud subscription or get at least 256GB storage on your phone.
