There are ways to rationalize it, of course. For instance, $2,000 is just $5.48 per day for one year, for a device that I use more than anything else except my work computer. I spend more on lunch. It's much less than my car loan and the car spends 23 hours a day sitting in the driveway doing nothing.

Yes, but only if it looks different from the Pro Max. I need to let people know I can afford such things even if I don't need the additional features... /s

If that were the case I would be getting the top spec or latest phone. Nice try at trolling me though.
That doesn’t make any sense. For years you go on and on and on about how you only buy the years before model, even though apparently you can afford the latest one. I think you protest too much and that you can’t really afford the latest phone. There’s no shame in that, especially with the cost of living crisis. But claiming the iPhone 8 is better than the X, for example like you have repeatedly done, is pretty much trolling

I ‘go on about it’ because I disagree with the price increases and the principle, but buy what I am comfortable with. If I couldn’t afford a new iPhone then how poor do you think I am? I have a good job, own my own home, own 2 cars, have two children and a wife, so if I couldn’t afford a grand on an iPhone then something would have to be seriously wrong or I’d be lying here.

I’m not interested in whether you believe me or not to be perfectly frank. I could live in a cardboard box behind a Tesco for all you know and perhaps that’s what you believe. Of course their is no shame in not being able to afford something either, I always stand up for those types of people. Being able to afford something doesn’t mean the person automatically gets that product either.

My opinion on the iPhone 8 Plus is exactly that, my opinion. It’s not trolling by any stretch of the imagination. This forum is here to welcome opinions, especially on those types of products.

Would you pay $2,000 for a Sapphire Glass, Titanium iPhone Ultra ?
$2,000? Not just no, but **** no! 🤢

I’ve gotten to the point where I’m not really tempted by new ludicrously price phones.

The 13 Pro Max I have is already amazing when it comes to the things I care about:
  • awesome battery life
  • 1000 nits typical brightness
  • fantastic camera quality

So you’re constantly telling us, but if true then what’s really the difference between £700 on a phone and a grand

But fair enough if it’s principle. I buy the standard models (though always the latest) and not the pro purely because I don’t like how the camera bump looks on the pro

I personally do not care about Apple’s Pro or Ultra lines of products, as anything worthy trickles down about one year later anyway. Besides, I see no real difference between iPhone 12-14 in day to day use. 🤷🏻‍♂️

That’s an instant nay🤨, I have no desire for an Ultra nor Titanium fortified iPhone 🙄. I am quite content with the pro max so far it does not get relegated to nothingness!

I'm 40 years old and past a point in my life where I get any satisfaction out of wanting the latest device. My 13 Pro Max was £949 and I simply felt it offered enough of what I require, whilst still being on the expensive side. I'll keep it at least 2 years too. I could have gotten a 14 Pro Max for £1200 of course, but I personally feel that is past the price point I think a mobile phone is worth, others feel differently. I change my car every couple of years and some of my friends keep theirs much longer, its all dependant on what we value. Mobile phones are such a mature product now and all essentially do the same thing and well and for me the sharp rise in costs at the higher end is uncompetive. You say you get the standard models and thats something I have always done until this upgrade. My last iPhone was a launch day iPhone 12, so I don't always buy last years model, I have done 3 times, but it all depends on what is appealing at the time.

I won't ever be buying a phone for 2 grand, not that that sort of device would ever be accepted by the mainstream consumer anyway. I think as prices go higher the trend will be to keep longer, buy older and buy mid tier.

Of course. There are plenty of Wall Street bankers and other one percenters who buy $40,000 Rolex watches and wouldn’t think twice about buying a $3,000 or $4,000 exclusive iPhone precisely because it is a more exclusive iPhone.

Security is a great reason to keep you phone updated.

It would be IMO as an Ultra device.
#1. Faster storage speed
#2. Maybe 2GB more RAM
#3. Be the first USB-C iPhone
#4. complete Sapphire glass
#5. Have a Titanium case with unique colors
#6. As an Ultra device have special animations when paired with an Apple Watch Ultra
#7. Special packaging
#8. better and louder speakers
#9. Improved durability
It wouldn’t be worth an extra $1k for all of these features. 1k for a phone right now I replace every 2 years is a lot all ready. I’m not sure I can personally justify 2k every 2 years.

I’d rather use the $1k for tickets to Japan. Tickets to traveling to other countries. Those memories will last me more than just spending 2k on a phone that’ll be worthless in 2-3 years.

I probably wouldn't pay $2000 for a phone, no matter what it is. In the end, it's a tool that can get obsolete.

OTOH, if I can have all my workflow work on just the phone, then yes, $2000 would actually be a steal if it can replace my tablet/laptop for work completely. But I doubt that would happen as there will always be a screen size limitation. Maybe a foldable?

No
Having a complete sapphire screen is a terrible idea
Yes it would be incredibly scratch resistant, but sapphire is a lot more brittle than the current glass. At the same thickness you’d have lots of people shattering their screens. To combat this it would need to be like 5mm thick and that means a much thicker phone
It works on the small screen watches but on a phone the screen is much bigger and much more easy to shatter
