There is something seriously wrong with people bitching about a product that they can choose to buy or not buy and even if they did purchase it they can return it.

You'd think there was a law requiring people to purchase it.

iKarma?

Did you check out the apple support page for iPhones? Sure some of the issues were minor and solved relatively easily, but there are countless posts, with serious issues.

The product doesn't live up to to the Apple PR. The promo video makes it seem like a dream, totally seamless, a perfect product, but it seems that the dream lies, more in their profits than in the experience.

Apple could have waited until November to launch the iPhone, by which time, a lot of the bugs would have been ironed out. Why they jumped the gun is beyond comprehension.

Again, while some Mac loyalists may not mind a balky device, from the complaints out there, I'll bet there are a lot of people who are feeling totally disillusioned right now.

It's first gen. There is poor judgement if you believe that the first ever phone by apple is going to have the reliability of the blackberry operating system or anything that has been out for awhile. Like any investor knows, anything new has a high risk and you chose to take it as did I. I read the first reviews, people's issues on this forum and finally decided the pros outweigh the cons for me. So far I'm as happy as can be. I know that the experience will only improve with updates.

+1

Seriously, it has only been out 8 days, you can still return it.
The world did not end, eternal peace has not ensued, Apple just released a phone that is it.
At the end of the day IMHO it is still good. A few faults, but nothing that is a deal breaker to me, esp having had many of the competing products. Been there done that.

No, there isn't.

I enjoy that many people are speaking up on the faults of their iPhone.

I expect Apple to fix those issues which the more complaining occurs, the better chance it happens.

As someone else said on another thread, this forum would be quite boring if nobody complained and everyone celebrated 24/7

With that said, I love my iPhone.

Yawn....

Same crap, different day. Thank God there's a return policy, that way we don't have to hear "I bought an 1st gen iPhone and it doesn't have 3G, I can't save documents and it won't remote start my car!" anymore...And then we can move to how cool this things is and discuss future upgrades, releases and bug fixes! I bet Verizon is kicking themselves on this one, they could have gone along for the ride, but pride held them back! Also, Universal are morons if they think it's worth looking elsewhere, surely Limewire would gain more customers! Don't get me wrong, competition is good, but if it ain't broke...

Do you think Apple didn't know about 3G or battery life or MMS or ichat or IMs or a todo list prior to launch?

They just sold close to a million phones in a week and you think some people whining on a message board is going to guide their business model?

Ok...

If you think Apple's business plan involves licking their finger and holding it up to see which way the wind is blowing...well if they did that there wouldn't even be an iphone to begin with.

I think a good bit of their users complaining about a specific slew of things will in fact change what they do towards Version 2 and possible software updates. I am not talking about 1-2 threads where people complain...I am talking about generally. Reviewing this forum, there are a pretty specific list of things that people have mentioned that they want fixed/worked on. As more and more people get the iPhone, I am sure that list will only increase in volume

Well I waited 11 1/2 hours for my iPhone. I must say that while the wait was long, it's an experience I will never forget. My iPhone is everything I thought it would be.
There is nothing on the market that compares to this phone. Nothing.

Take the phone back if you don't like it. Go pick up a some silly LG phone with a 1/2" screen. Try watching a movie on that, or surf the web.

Sorry, mine works fine. So do the other 2 I know of personally. The link you gave to Apple iPhone discussions doesn't work, but I went to the previous one and took a look at the topics. On the first page, several were about the battery being non-replaceable, as an example. Did they say it was? I have to wonder how much attention is being paid to the content, rather than the total number of posts. I went through a few pages - most are "how do I?". Some have low volume (if other than local connection reasons, I'm sure it'll be fixed - or AT&T will look into it).

I've spent waaay too many hours over the last week using just about everything on the iPhone, and it's always been smooth and far from (actually, no relation to) "balky". If the iPhone doesn't do something it was stated it will do, then - don't buy it, return it, or enjoy it and see what functionality is added in the future.

I'm not trying to be an apologist. Just pointing out the issues are, in reality, relatively few.

I'm shocked that people are unhappy with the battery life. I must have got a "special" one. It out performs my Treo or my Q and I use my iPhone MUCH more.

There is value in people voicing their complaints ... if Apple is going to sell 10 million of these in 18 months they have 9 million more people to convince and I'm one of those fence sitters. If people just kept quiet and returned them, all we'd get is Apple PR and a handful of easily bought off reviewers. One reason I come to macrumors is that I get honest, straightforward opinions by people who understand and like Apple products. Given what I've heard so far, I'm at least waiting for the first software revision and perhaps waiting for iPhone 2.

Bluesman87, I understand that you may feel angry and disappointed. Sounds like your phone has got some problems. It also sounds like you have let the hype get to you. Some of your expectations are just not realistic and you are missing the point. It is not Jesus reincarnated in the form of a phone. I am also pretty sure Apple is not out to ***** you over. They have built new factories just for this product, I am sure they want to get it right. I think it is important that you let them know what you have experienced. Although I have had no problems with mine, I do not believe it is perfect. It is a start. Much more to come. Being rude, however, is going to get you nowhere. I purchased the first copy of OS X and the first gen iPod, both the week of their release. Both had their share of problems. OS X, a lot in fact. That said I don't understand why anyone in their right mind would stand in line... for anything, unless they absolutely have to. If I were you I would either return it or try to get it replaced. Perhaps this article will give you a better understanding of what we should expect: http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/editors/2007/07/iphoneipod/index.php

I hope it works out for you.

If that's the case, then how about someone compilng a list of the end user complaints that were addressed in former apple products.

I usually play with things in the store before buying it, so I know what I am going to get.

But that doesn't always do the trick. How would you know if a product runs too hot after hours of use? Or if the battery life is good? Or how often it crashes? Complaints are often the result of people getting lemons, but not always ... and macrumors has always been an excellent early warning system on the models worth shying away from. The "sorry about your issues, but mine has been flawless" responses are valuable to hear as well.

I was actually going to wait until next year to get it. All the hype turned me off and I thought I'd wait for the bugs to get fixed. That was until I spent two days playing with one. My friends I stayed with had bought two of them. Both bug free. So when I got back in town I bought one for myself. So far, no lemon.

Sounds like Microsoft planted their troll to diss the iPhone. Hmmmm, even though the iPhone is not perfect, many of the criticisms are overblown. Try using the RAZR to surf the web!

Class this ends the our regularly scheduled after-school special about what happens when people are early adopters and don't realize that new stuff is generally buggy.

That's the worst excuse I've ever heard. Are we to put up with buggy software (vista anyone?) because it's a first generation (pre sp*) of the operating system? If what you're saying is true, we should just accept vista's faults and bugs, and write them off as "first gen" problems. (I doubt MS will fix them, but still).

As for your complaint about the "edge" network, everyone knows that cingular has (one of?) the slowest networks available. Verizon really shouldn't have passed on this one.

And I totally agree about the recessed headphone jack. It's not really an "ipod" (as they advertise it to be) unless you can plug a STANDARD headphone jack in there!

The main reason I don't have one, is because it's on the stinkular network.

Or just don't buy it. That is an option you know...to not buy the product.

And yeah that is what you do. Your votes are your dollars. You buy the product, you just voted for it. And Apple just got about 500 million votes saying "we like you!"

You want to vote against the iPhone? just don't buy it.

Mine works PERFECTLY

There will always be more people on forums that complain about how bad the phone is, and they will do so repeatedly on different threads and forums and websites. There will be very few people who will come out to say that they have a perfect product in their hands, I am one of those many people who have a perfect product in my hands.

I suspect that you either work for, or are paid by, the businesses that are hostile to Apple and the iPhone.

What exactly is your agenda in posting this?

So the iPhone has some flaws -- so do ALL OTHER phones. It is not the end of the world, and stop exaggerating the flaws of the iPhone.

Again, if you don't like it, don't buy it. No one is forcing you to do anything.

I think people should definitely voice their opinions about problems they've run into, but it's better if they also send Apple their feedback.

However, I've been seeing a lot of complaints that have totally baffled me.

Some, complaints basically boil down to "I can't surf the web just like on my computer". Now, part of this is SJ's fault, but come on now. We knew quite a while ago that there would not be Flash support (at least initially). Whining about lack of Flash, slowness of EDGE, etc is pointless. You knew it would be an issue weeks ago, but you bought the iPhone anyway!

Interestingly enough, my iPhone (using EDGE) got quite a workout Friday. All four people who played around with it (pretty much non-stop for 2+ hours) commented how speedy web browsing was. After listening to all the criticism of EDGE, they were expecting a horribly slow, worse than dial-up experience. Instead, they all felt it was very useable.

In fact, although some of them had no interest in getting one before Friday, they all want one now :)

Btw, Safari has yet to crash on me, and I have had no problems listening to music while browsing the web. There are quite a few small annoyances I've run into, but nothing that makes me want to take it back. I'm compiling a list of "problems" to send to Apple. Hopefully most will be addressed in a future software update.
