There is no digital download, as it is 8 DVDs, about 60 GB of compressed data.

I'm sure you can get the DVDs at a local store by now.

@QuantumLo0p:
Totally agree with xav8tor. I hope that 64 bits will scream on OS X too....
Even with "only" a Radeon 5870 the app's limit isn't the hardware but the 32-bitsness of it.
I have also bought the Worldliner777 and trying to fly that with any custom scenery absolutely exceeds 3 GB of RAM and, yep, crashes X-Plane 10. :(

I would LOVE to have the normal issue of flightsims: hardware limitation! ;)

Thanks for the input. I have my rig together but I'm seriously considering swapping out my card. XP10 sounds great; probably safe to assume leap and bounds above XP8. I don't know anyone personally to take a look at it and Laminar's vids for XP8 looked great too so I'll have to take ya'll's opinion on it.
:)

I have X-Plane 10 set to all the highest graphics settings and have never run into an out of memory error, even with 20 AI aircraft. Maybe it's harder to hit the memory limit in Windows. I will have to try it in Mac OS.

Yeah... much easier to hit memory limit in Mac OS. I can't even load San Francisco on full settings.

Mac OS X is "in the middle" when it comes to the 32 bits memory limit.

X-Plane Memory

Because X-Plane is a 32-bit application, it can only use a certain amount of memory. That limit varies by operating system:

Windows 32-bit: 3 GB.
Windows 64-bit: 4 GB.
Mac OS X: 3.5 GB.
Linux: 3 GB.

In my personal experience X-Plane 10 will crash on Mac OS X (10.7.5) when the app reaches 3 GB....
And in my personal experience it reaches this 3 GB "barrier" when you load pretty heavy scenery with some AI aircraft and > 500 MB VRAM in use.

I do like the shuttle - and especially the landing gear compression and bounce when it touched down. You don't often see that in Flight Simulator X.

But since I've got many hundreds of dollars of expensive addons for FSX (eg, $75 addon planes), I don't want to move over to X Plane 10 and lose those. :(

One day you will, soon.

Microshaft killed FS, and it already was showing lack of features founds in games/sims today.

I've actually pretty much stopped playing any games to be honest, in between riding a bicycle and doing real world work, I don't have the time for Flight Sim or computer games in general.

My next purchase will probably be the PMDG B777 when it is released, but then I'll probably use it for a while and then it'll go on the back burner. I probably won't be doing 17.5 hour long-haul flights with that B777-200/LR. ;) Although I couuld set it on the FMC and pause at T/D. :p

The lack of FS default features doesn't bother me much since I've remedied that with addons that do what I want them to do.

I know that!

I get my jollies with iPhone games these days, usually no more then 30 min a day instead of TV. Still...

I have a friend who is also a serious airline simmer, but never had chance to do a session with him.

I fly real airplanes, but not as big as 777 though.
