How can you know what week if production are you going to order/get? I received my 4th 12 pro max today, exact same yellow tint than the others and is week 41. And we are in December! I would like to get a more current one.
I order online.

Welcome to the screen lottery. Good luck, you’re going to need it :(. There’s no way to request a specific serial number or production week. It’s all luck of the draw.
Though I wonder if the replacement screen stock at the Apple Retail stores are of higher quality than off the production line .

We’ll have to see how my wife’s new 12 pro looks when we get it. It was ordered directly from Verizon. Should be here Wednesday.

I wanted to wait till January, but we just couldn’t pass up the trade in promotion Verizon is running. They offered $440 for her old iPhone X 64gb. Prior to the promotion, they were only offering a little over $200 for a trade in.

I was able to find a happy point with the color filter on my 12 pro Max, so I’m hoping we can at least do the same with her’s, if it’s got the yellow tint.

Well, my wife’s graphite 12 pro came yesterday and... it has the yellowish tint, similar to my 12 Pro Max. It’s not that bad and isn’t too far off from her prior X.

I just did a bit of a hue adjustment, like I did on mine, and it is fine now.

Is there any way to see the serial number when ordering online and doing in store pickup because actually picking it up?

Not that I know of. You just get what you get, and if you don't like it you can send the replacement back.
But, at least in my country in Europe, the express replacement has a cost of 29€. Is free in your country? I can send it back forever until I get a current production paying 29€ each time.

Its $29 here in the US as well, unless you have AppleCare.

iOS 14.3 RC2 — BIG improvement!
If my eyes are not mistaken, the green hue on min brightness seems to be gone, and the whites are much more iPhone X / iPad Pro 2018 like.
It has turned my heart around!!! After I read that it is not true and have turned off my life :(

I don’t know, my 12 Pro Max with G9N panel and production week 41 has perfect whites, but it does suffer from the green blacks that I can see when switching phone ON or OFF.

I know these issues with green black on low brightness was fixed on iPhone 11 Pro last year, so hopefully they fix this also.

I will wait until public 14.3 if not I might take my chances and send it for replacement.

But I’m afraid to receive one with yellow screen and same green blacks...

This is not my intention at all.
My phone‘s a F2LDJ, and the green hue is definitely not there anymore.

First I thought I‘m kidding myself as I had forgotten to turn off the color filter, but it‘s still gone after I turned it off.
Mine is also F2LDJ and as I said above, my screen is perfect / has only the glowing green at boot / power off.

I really hope it will be fixed by 14.3 final release next week.

Can you test this?
Switch off the phone and go to a room / bathroom with lights off.

Switch on the phone and pay attention to see if the screen turns green while booting at Apple logo.

Editing a color filter is not a solution

I only tried to be funny🤗

If it gets your display to where you are satisfied, then YES, it is very much a solution.

I’m not saying it works for everyone but in our cases, our brightness was about the same as our old phone but there was more of a yellowish tint. Nothing extreme.

So we have no reason to play a panel lottery when I can make our displays look as good as our prior phones, with a simple adjustment.

I’d love for them to just add more detailed adjustments to allow everyone to adjust their displays properly.

Today I got my 4th purchased pro max and the exact same yellow warm screen (have been returning progressively and ordering new ones) and is the 7th iPhone 12 pro max I tested. All I have to say is that I surrender. I can’t believe anyone saying his display is perfect. Statistically, having tested 7 different brand new iPhones I should have noticed a minimal improvement. No, they all were the exact same. All warm.
I’m keeping one and returning the rest of them.
It gets you exhausted. 1st world problems, I know...

Compared with my friends 11 Pro Max and XS Max, the 12 Pro Max I have has perfect whites.
XS Max > More blueish kinda of white
11 Pro Max > White, but not as bright as 12 Pro Max.

All these tests should be done with TrueTone, NighShift OFF and most important Auto-Brightness off! It makes a hell of a difference this option alone.

Well, today I received my replacement, serial starting G0ND. The same yellowish screen, raised blacks, and all the issues described in this forum. This time I will return the device for a refund and I will stay with my perfect iPhone X for a while. What a shame. I'm pretty pissed off.

Please, help me decide to keep it or not! I took some pictures to compare both screens, iPhone 12 PM (bigger) and iPhone X. To my eyes I can see the iPhone 12 Pro Max looks warmer than my iPhone X. But to my DSLR there is no so much difference. Bothe phone with TT off, auto-brightness off, screen brightness at 50%.

Information about my 2nd iPhone 12 pro max

Serial number: G0NDT******
Colour: Pacific Blue
Production year: 2020
Production week: 49 (December)

Other issues:
  • under 20% screen brightness, black areas when playing videos are lighted in the screen, not completely black (off pixels) as my iPhone X
  • Camera shadows issues. See the problem here:
