I am sending this one back tomorrow. Already called Apple Support and explained the situation and told them about the perfect unit at Costco. For now, I asked for a refund and I'm gonna wait a couple of months to get it again. If the same happens I think that I'm going to stay with my X for another year.
I already give my X to my wife so I can’t go back. I don’t have any other phone to use and return this one and wait...

Apple will not say anything official I’m afraid.
Yeah maybe, thats why i try to get a good one with ordering iphones, checking them, and sending back. if i dont get one till end of January i will stay with my iphone 6s and the really nice white at this old phone and wait for the 13 series.
i like apple, but this thing is a mess!

Any word from apple if their going to fix the piss yellow grey colours in dark mode?

Big difference compared to other phones, here is a couple of photos note 20 ultra and iPhone 12 pro max.

Love everything about my 12 pro max, the screen is a big let down though. 🤦‍♂️😔

My phone exactly. I actually love the white, it’s the grey colors that are killing me.

Please, help me decide to keep it or not! I took some pictures to compare both screens, iPhone 12 PM (bigger) and iPhone X. To my eyes I can see the iPhone 12 Pro Max looks warmer than my iPhone X. But to my DSLR there is no so much difference. Bothe phone with TT off, auto-brightness off, screen brightness at 50%.

Information about my 2nd iPhone 12 pro max

Serial number: G0NDT******
Colour: Pacific Blue
Production year: 2020
Production week: 49 (December)

Other issues:
  • under 20% screen brightness, black areas when playing videos are lighted in the screen, not completely black (off pixels) as my iPhone X
  • Camera shadows issues. See the problem here:
They look very similar to me. Are you sure you will get any better?

I received the reordered iPhone 12 Pro Max last Thursday as expected. It was manufactured on Week 49 at Factory G0 with a G9Q screen. However, the display looked virtually the same as that of the Week 44 Factory F2 Screen G9N iPhone 12 Pro Max that I received on November 13th. Both have yellowish whites and greenish grays. However, the Week 49 Factory G0 Screen G9Q iPhone 12 Pro Max does not flicker from black to green during startup. I am not pleased, but I will keep it. This is the second year in a row that I settle. I hope that next year Apple pays more attention to iPhone displays.

I really want to know whether this is a hardware issue/defect or something that will be fixed in an update. Absolutely ridiculous that Apple isn’t saying anything about this. I don’t have the time to deal with returning a phone 8 times to get a good quality display, especially when paying $1.1k+ . This is insane, Apple really needs to communicate - this is their biggest product.

It’s hardware, there’s no doubt about it. We all have the same software, but obviously we are experiencing different problems with our screens, some more yellow, some more green, weird blacks etc.

Most people don’t notice it, that’s why Apple can stay silent about it. That’s really all there is to it.
All we can do is return the phone or even switch to another brand.

It isn’t hardware. They are processed on same production line. It doesn’t make sense newer weeks haven’t changed.
Each screen has different whites IMO.

Software fixes help everyone. I can’t tell
You how many iOS release bug fixes fixed erros that I never had.

Software doesn’t have to effect everyone.
Side note. I don’t get how the hdr black video looks fine on my phone but the regular black screen video does that weird gray glowy thing.
What does hdr do differently?

Also they are looking into the black and frlickering. It was posted on main site.
That’s not Apple being silent

The panels are provided by different manufacturers, also probably are calibrated by those manufacturers. No the same production line. The difference this year is that A LOT of phones are affected, but this happens all years and never has been fixed by software by apple.

Well i asked for a refund. I wont be getting a new one for the time been. I’ll wait for a couple of month or search for the perfect one on local stores. At least my iPhone X’s has been working flawlessly since Nov 2017. I can wait another year.

It’s been over a month now since the launch
Nothing has been done and it doesn’t look like it’s something that Apple can correct in an update or they would have already done it
If you can’t accept the screen the way it is
bring the iPhone back! You can purchase an 11 pro or pro max which has a good screen. Big Difference between 11 & 12 is the camera

I saw someone mention that all G6 serial number iPhones are good, but that’s not accurate, as mine with G6TDK is bad. Looking at people reporting back, G6TDQ may be a good batch.
The one I saw at Costco was a G6TDG and the screen was perfect.

I have a G6TDL and it looks good to me and I’m usually picky about these kind of things for the money we paying.

Have any of you that have multiple exchanges exchanged via AppleCare, or are you all exchanging normally? Mine’s being exchanged via AppleCare. I asked them to make sure I got a newly made phone as I don’t want to have to exchange it again and they said don’t worry, the AppleCare replacements are made to a higher standard than retail.

But now I’m seeing in the confirmation email that they are sending me a G0, which by all accounts here is crap...

Apple employees are trained to perjure themselves. Their stock isn’t any better than any other stock. Might even be worse since it would be all returned stock.

aakshey, you seem to have lot of knowledge on what’s going on. Were you ever working on the inside?

No. But I’ve worked extensively with them on my issues. It’s very clear they’re taught from a manual. I also do know some people on the inside.

what’s your opinion? Do you suggest to give give up and try in some months? I’m thinking to give up and purchased an used X for a cheap price.
