My iPhone looks great with the True Tone on during the day in bright conditions, but piss yellow at night. If I turn TT off entirely, the screen isn’t as white during the day. It sucks because I don’t want to have to toggle on and off constantly.

I don't have apple care + .. but with apple care is it possible to have your device changed to another? and above all how much would it cost? because if they don't recognize it as a problem, I don't think they'll change it for free
If you replace it via support they’ll charge you £29 (and a credit card hold until your old device is returned) for an express replacement. You don’t need Apple care for this. Oh, and the problem is one of your volume buttons is wonky. Hint hint. The problem with express replacements is that they are stock that’s been around for a while which means a higher change that it’s not resolved. Whereas, new retail units are fresh off of the production line. Week 50’s are now rolling out.

This is normal. True tone makes the screen warmer in low/indirect/warm light and colder in bright light. The ‘warming’ seems wayy too aggressive on my phone too but that could simply be due to the already warmer / yellow tinted screens.

After a 3rd swap, being lied to a couple of times by the Apple support, I didn’t swallowed the pill, kept on fighting. At least 2 people from Apple told me I lost the right to cancel my order by asking for a swap, that’s a total lie, and completely illegal.
I’m finally getting my money back.
End of the story for me
Don’t accept those awful screens, they are crappy, and that's just not acceptable

Why does turning off True Tone give the display a warmer appearance during the daytime? Shouldn’t it be the opposite?
If you're in cold light surroundings, like the outside on an overcast day, TT is supposed to make the screen cooler opposed to warmer.

Did you even read the original post???
Let me link it for you -

He is comparing two different iPhone 12’s to an iPad but in completely different lighting conditions with True Tone on. Therefore it makes sense the iPhone 12 on the left is more red compared to the one on the right as it’s in pitch black and it also looks like night shift is on.

both iPhone 12’s are WARMER than the iPad I agree - as all are this year. However, the OPs assumption that the one on the right is better makes no logical sense as they’ve been compared in completely different conditions and True Tone will behave differently.
Turn dark mode on the forums here. Now look side by side with an iPhone 12 and any other iPhone, iPad, MacBook, or iMac. The iPhone 12 looks gross and green. It's more than it just being "warmer". Something is really wrong.

14.4 does not change this issue, at this point, I think it's very likely that no software update will address this, same as with all the past iPhones.

The only thing that was strange, after updating the 14.4 beta 1, my auto brightness was switched off? Could be just a bug.

I ordered a new iPhone 12 Pro Max on 12/4 and it got here today.

The screen is less yellow than my launch day 12 Pro Max.

New left, old right.

Huge issue, huh? You do realize that you returned the iPhone 4 times in a row and saw the same thing every time while at least 10 million+ other people do not see what you see? When I read the yellow screen thread every year started by a few select people, I can’t help but chuckle.

You forget one important thing. People trust Apple for delivering top quality with no exceptions or mass production differences im Quality Aspects. This is a very important part that many do not return their goods because they think that it is by design. It takes some time until people realize that there is something indeed wrong.

For me personally i also agree if we pay the highest price for a flagship device i demand perfection.
I have seen different panels and in my point of view, the difference this year is not acceptable for people who are very sensitive on such topics. For sure, Apple will correct the production or is already going to talk to their vendors to do better QC. But saying it is not a problem or the yellow screen does not exist is not correct for power users and people who have very high standards. I am sure it bothers Apple‘s Execs as well as some of users who are posting here. After all, Apple itself is driving the Quality to a Standard which is absolutely top of the class.

turning off autobrightness is not acceptable for me.
I don't want to manage myself every 10 minutes to brightness to find the best ft for the externatl light conditions...
You’re changing lighting conditions every 10 minutes? Interesting

This is basically where mine is at. It’s a noticeable improvement, but definitely not a perfect white. But I’m keeping it as it’s probably the best screen I’m gonna find and I don’t wanna do the lottery over and over again.

Checked mine against the 12 at Target tonight and mine was quite a bit cooler.

I’m in Europe. All my iPhones were sent from Italy.

I’m in europe too and they where all sent from Ireland (ordered from Apple store)
I don’t know if it’s a regional issue but a friend of mine ordered the same model as I did and got a non yellow screen (different sn, ordered from a carrier)

I'm in France and my two mini's were send from Netherlands "SYNCREON" warehouse, both yellow tinted... So I returned-it and get the iPhone 12 classic, hope the screen will be better.
please keep us informed

Apple has confirmed the problem, what more could you want ?

You keep coming back in this tread, pretending to be respectful, but using words like “conspiracy theory”, “LOL”, ”chuckle”, it doesn’t sound very respectful to me.

You say you are a professional and that we (the writters of this soon to be 200 pages long) are all wrong, well, I’ve been using my iPad Pro -professionally- for 18 months now, for at least 4 hours everyday, and each day, I’m amazed by the screen. The (3) iPhone 12 I got made me sick each time I looked at it .
Please tell me, as a professional, do you understand the words : NO WHITE ?

Yes, we are sending those phones back, I personally tried 3 times, believing that Apple would actually send me a correct phone. I’m seriously pissed off, because A: I lost a lot of time, B: I’ve been lied to several times by Apple and I had to literally fight to get my money back, C: After all this time, I still need to manage to get a working iPhone so I can start working again (Android is not an option for me)

You might be part of apple defenders movement. Order and measure some 12s and then we talk again. And also compare with other year apple devices. Specially with True Tone on.
Yes, please do that, and come back with the results, that would be some constructive criticism !

This website did a really nice and thorough review/comparison of the iPhone 12 Pro Max and they repeatedly mention its Yellow tinted display. They have some technical analyses and measurements in here. I highly suggest reading through it

They also discuss how the night filter is overbearing, to the point where it makes it difficult to read, which I agree with. Also note the strong green in the display when tilted - I notice this on mine as well
