I agree. I hope one day Color Filter fans will understand how the feature works and what the consequence is of turning it on.

For fast readers, this thread can be summarized as:
# 202: yellow,
# 203: I mean really yellow, not warm white, yes off Night Shift, True Tone.
# 204: Color Filter helps!
...
# 210: No, the Color Filter doesn't help, that's not the purpose of it (its for color blindness, it helps to differentiate colors).
# 212: Color Filter causes other problems...

comment cycle restarts

Not a solution, its just sweeping under the carpet.
Exactly 😰

Seems like there's some confusion in this thread with auto-brightness.
There's something weird going on with AB on these phones, yes, the brightness is simply too low. But turning AB off doesn't increase your contrast or sharpness, your screen just gets brighter so it looks better to you...but in fact it's just brighter, nothing more.

If you want to keep AB on but want a brighter screen you can do this.. Just leave AB on but turn the brightness up in control center until you're happy! It will still adapt your brightness to the environment, but it will be generally higher than the default.

guys I understand that apple will do nothing at the software level so I have activated the color filters .. you have noticed that if you take a screenshot (if you have set the color filter) you will notice that the photo in the Moment pf the shot is yellow, while if you have the device in dark mode, at the moment of the shot the photo is not yellow? strange 🤔

Thanks - the one on the right looks like the exact same as mine but the tint is red on the left hand side. However maybe that's because it just has less green tint. Don't suppose you could try and take a photo of the same the thing in youtube as per the linked post for both of your phones in same conditions? Which one are you keeping?
I already got it packed up to ship. I'm keeping the one on the right which is the one they sent me.

guys I called apple support again and they told me that they know about the problem that doesn't exist for them, the screens have been calibrated just like that this year.. it is useless according to them to change iphone because they are all more or less like this .. they told me anyway that apple is working on this thing at the software level given the various reports ..

Because you have your comparison in two different lighting situations with True Tone enabled on both phones. Of course they are going to be different temperatures as the ambient light is completely different. If you want a fair comparison between the two iPhone 12 models you need TT off and the same ambient lighting, brightness, etc.

Actually not correct, my iPhone is yellow, my iPad is white, both in the same room, at the same moment, with the same settings

Same for me. iPhone X, iPad Pro 2020, MacBook Pro 13, True Tone on and off are white. iPhone 12 is very yellow. And I have ever had any issue with True Tone until iPhone 12, ever. In fact, I like it and use it in all my devices.

Nobody should set for a lesser or an inferior quality device when perfect iPhones 12 Pro Max are out there. I had witnessed two iPhones 12 Pro Max (Graphite color), with a perfect screen and not black flickering issue. Also, a friend of mine purchased two iPhones 12 Pro Max on launch day, one blue and one gold, the blue one is yellow-tinted, and the gold is perfect.

Reading all the forums possible, I have learned that there is no correlation between serial numbers and excellent or bad iPhones. Also, it is my opinion that this issue is not related to software. As I said before, there are good ones out there running the same iOS version. The same issue happened to iPhones 11 Pro Max, but it wasn't widespread as the 12 series. Those yellow-tinted iPhones 11 are still yellow-tinted. Apple never produced a fix for it.

I had two iPhones 12 Pro Max, both with the yellow tint, one worst than the other, and one of them all grey colors looked greenish with raised blacks flickering. I returned both and I'm going to wait until this issue subsides.

If you are on the return period, return it. Tell Apple that you are not going to pay for a defective device. It is simply not acceptable at this price range.

In your original post, you are saying your iPhone 12 sucks compared to your friends iPhone 12 and you are comparing both to an iPad with completely different screen tech.

The problem is, your phone is in a completely different lighting condition to your friends when you’re making the comparison. Therefore you really can’t make the argument that his phone is fine compared to the iPad and yours is not. I’d bet the reason your phone looks more red compared to the other iPhone 12 is because of True Tone in that dark environment. However, both of the phones are warm compared to the iPad which is what we are seeing with all iPhone 12 models...
iPhone X is oled, same tech. Huge difference. And that iPhone X looks very similar to iPad and MacBook being different technologies. No excuses, iPhone 12s have a widespread yellowing issue.

Means nothing. Call them back and someone else will say something else.

Just stop calling Apple for this.

I have been thinking about this since I bought it, in fact I already mentioned it one day on this topic. Although the true tone is off, the screen changes tone depending on whether you are indoors or outdoors. Outdoors the screen looks white and indoors it turns yellowish with the TT turned off.
Had to revive my 10 year old account to reply to this..

Yes, I was so confused by this. Sometimes, my screen turns really yellow, and I turn true tone on, and it's fixed WOO

Then sometimes, true tone is on, and it looks like someone just peed on it.... (excuse the graphic image)

It's really weird. You'd almost think it's a bug with TT somehow not fully turning off, but then people say they've got good panels, so WTF is going on? LOL.

Also agree to this.........WTF.

Anyways, I live in central Switzerland, went to 4 different retailers (we don't have a lockdown even given the fact that we are amongst the worst in the world for COVID). But I digress..

Compared TWO of my 12s with all the phones there, out of 16 (Pro Max, Pro, normal, mini), only 1 or 2 are SLIGHTLY whiter than mine. I actually think this is a software problem of sorts...

you are probably right but if we all called apple every day, we would send emails and for those who can do it you will have to change their iphone with another one I think they would be forced to do something

  • A yellow cast is visible in all tested conditions in both video and still imagery.
  • Brightness is often low, particularly at night.
  • The blue light filter diminishes readability and has a strong orange cast.
  • Flicker is noticeable in low-light conditions. “

Who is "we all"? You might be mistaken by thinking this is a huge issue. This thread makes it seem like a big issue but take the total number of posts and then divide that down by the number of multiple posts by multiple posters. Then the actual number of people here with an "issue" is a very very minuscule percentage of iPhone owners. Barely a blip on Apple's radar.

This is a huge issue as long as most of the phones out there have the screen yellow tinted. I replaced mine 4, FOUR time getting the exact same piss yellow screen. Also tested some in stores. Haven’t experienced that ever, with any iPhone and I had a lot. Screens are yellow and True Tone is unacceptable. And the number of replies in this thread is significant. Just compare it with other similar threads of other years. I bet you don’t have an iPhone 12 to talk like that or your tolerance to yellow color is considerable.

I have a 12 Mini. It looks fine. As I have said before, the media loves to jump on any Apple story. Where are the numerous news stories covering this "huge issue"? They aren't there because beyond a small number of iPhone users, this is a non-issue.

So you have the truth and all the rest, including me who returned 4 iPhones because of that, are wrong. Also the article above analyzing the iPhone 12 display mentioning the strong orange yellow cast of the screen is wrong. Statistically is very hard to get 5 new phones with the same aggressive yellow tint without being a widespread issue. Yours is fine, congratulations. All I have tested, replacements and at stores (and other people here and in other forums) have the issue. We are all wrong... sure

Huge issue, huh? You do realize that you returned the iPhone 4 times in a row and saw the same thing every time while at least 10 million+ other people do not see what you see? When I read the yellow screen thread every year started by a few select people, I can’t help but chuckle.

Even if it is a small percentage of iPhones 12 with this problem, it doesn't make it less than a real issue. Many people don't notice it or don't care if their screens are yellowish or greenish or flickering in low brightness, but still, it is an issue independently if the people accept it not. For me, it is a real issue when all my iPhones, computers, TVs, including my car's display, produces a better white balance and clarity than my two ex-new iPhones 12 Pro Max.

If you are ok with a warmer display even with TT, NS, and Color Filter off, then that is ok. But don't say that is not an issue because it is, and nobody should set for a device working not as expected when compared to previous versions. For now, I'll keep my iPhone X for the moment.

So if mass do not notice the issue is not there... strong argument. Now, why all 5 iPhones screens I purchased looks like urine beside my iPhone X, my iPad Pro 2020 and my MacBook Pro? And why I have ever had this kind of problem in the past with any of my apple devices? I might be sensitive to this kind of issue but that doesn’t make the issue non existent. You and others might tolerate better the yellow screen. But the issue still there. Compared with a bunch of other apple devices, iPhone 12 has a strong yellow tint, and is widespread as is present in all devices that me and a lot of other people have tested, purchased devices or at stores.

Can you give the 5 first characters of your serial ? I received 2 mini and both were yellow. C6KDN for the second.
