I just compared my three year old iPhone X with my brand new iPhone 12 Pro side-by-side. I don’t have a third camera to JK picture, but with the color profiles turn off, the iPhone 12 is quite a bit warmer than the iPhone 10. It’s not to the point where it looks defective; just a slightly bit warmer display. No raised blacks issue.

I was playing around with the color filters function in Settings - Accessiblity - Display & Text Size. The screenshot below is for me a nice clean neutral white color. Try it out and tell me what you think.

Unless your display is extraordinarily yellow, it’s not worth doing the screen lottery. The fact that it’s an OLED and the color filters option is available is a godsend compared to the previous LCD iPhones without the color filters option. At least yellow splotches are non existent with OLED too.

Also, I’m not sure if the same extends to OLED technology, but I know that new LED LCD screens would have a tendency to become cooler over time.

No. Apple has complete control over the display calibration. If the new glass was slightly yellow/green they could have easily adjusted their calibration to compensate.

This ugly tint is intentional, probably for eye health. Not sure why they thought a different color temperature from their macs/iPads/watches would go over well.

You think Apple cares about your (eye) health ? :D:D:D

iPad air 2020 in terms of colour temp is spot on even with true tone and nightshift.

Well my partner and I got a g6 on day 1 so did it. Hers warms than mine but consistent. Mine cool but next to iPad Air and m1 MacBook too warm. I would keep it cause in nightshift no red in the settings menu. But... dust in the main camera.

ok so got it replaced. 2 g6 and both are too warm and red at minimum brightness.

showed apple store a photo and they were shocked and replaced it with a new model. A F2 but much warmer. I don’t mind this now but still red At the bottom of the settings menu in minimum brightness.

so new apple launch device all warm? really need to wait like 3 to 6 months then can only get 'normal' device?

Well I’m about to pick up a new pro max in an hour. I’m exchanging my gold for pacific blue. Of course the added benefit is maybe getting a less yellow or all white screen? Either way at least I can report back here and let you know what’s going on with the current batches a month after launch. Someone mentioned waiting until February. That’s probably the better bet. I don’t think right now is the time but I decided to just pull the trigger anyway. See what happens

Don’t think the week or factory makes a difference. Both my partners G6 and mine are G6 laugh days phone. One much cooler than the other. But again the dust inside lol

Ím considering getting a 11 PM and return my 12 PM because this yellow screen pandemic. Would you recommend it?
That’s up to you if the screen bothers you that much. I still prefer the 12PM due to the camera upgrades and design. The 11PM is still a great phone though. I only upgraded because I can write it off lol.

I just got my replacement 12PM today G0ND and the screen is slightly cooler with no green tint or flickering blacks but still raised blacks below 30 percent and on boot up. It's a keeper. New top old bottom.

Both very similar lol. It’s just a characteristic of this model. Could you please test this post below with both of your phones while you still have them? I’m curious to see if there’s any red that shows up

Nope no red on either one.

Turning auto brightness off solves most of the dimness/low contrast issue for me. There’s a huge difference between AB on and off. Screen still slightly warmer that previous iphones though

How about the brightness?
The huge problem with the filter is that it's a simple layer that dim in a strong way the overall brightness of the screen, unless you turn off auto brightness and boost up ip in a manual way.

turning off autobrightness is not acceptable for me.
I don't want to manage myself every 10 minutes to brightness to find the best ft for the externatl light conditions...

Same here. Turned it off, and it is more vibrant, maybe because the brightness is higher in a situation than with automatic brightness. So it feels more vibrant. But I also turned it off even though my second 12 Mini has a better screen than my first.

I agree. I hope one day Color Filter fans will understand how the feature works and what the consequence is of turning it on.

For fast readers, this thread can be summarized as:
# 202: yellow,
# 203: I mean really yellow, not warm white, yes off Night Shift, True Tone.
# 204: Color Filter helps!
...
# 210: No, the Color Filter doesn't help, that's not the purpose of it (its for color blindness, it helps to differentiate colors).
# 212: Color Filter causes other problems...

Not a solution, its just sweeping under the carpet.

Actually, applying color filters is not a full solution. It is a software re-rendering and sometimes you can see that. For example, when you are making a screenshot, you see that little animation. The white tone in that animation differs from your settings with the color filter. Such little things bother me.
