I’ll be able to go back to the apple store to take more pictures, but what’s the point? The seller and I had done other tests and the result was always the same. Accept the truth and acknowledge that apple failed.
I returned 5 pro max because of that. Not my intention to defend apple at all. Just want to know and understand if this can be intended or random as my 5 returned iPhones showed exactly the same grade of tint and as i have seen in the stores, internet and in this thread, most of the screen (almost all of them) seems to show the yellow tint. The cooler displays seems to be like grails. Should be much more cooler ones out there. This is very weird

let’s say it’s an apple will (which I doubt) I repeat, it’s not acceptable.
But I think quality control has just been poor this year, because of this pandemic we’re going through.
Apple needs to do a reminder of all iphones with a bad screen.

BUt why would be easier to calibrate a screen warmer than cooler? That would justify lower tolerances, but i cant see how calibrating it more yellow would accelerate production. I would see if screens were random, but the vast majority appears to be yellow, I really want to understand that point... And i repeat, i see this not acceptable too.

I bought my 12P on launch day and I'm well beyond the return period. I decided to speak with Apple after sales support today. After an hour on the phone with them and making a fuss, I convinced them to refund me.

I'm honestly so releaved to be out of this charade. If there is one thing that I hate about a screen, it's a yellow/warm colour. It just looks dreadful to me and I don't want to pay this much for a device, only to hate looking at it.

I'm going to buy an iPhone 11 Pro with my money. Best of luck to everyone!

This is a good point that only apple and its factories can answer. But know that there is not only the problem of yellow hue, but also a lack of uniformity and gray color smudges on the black when the phone is in dark mode... It’s really freestyle this year which is why I blame it on quality control.

I didn’t know about gray color smudges on the black in dark mode. I know about raised blacks. How is that? Any picture or video?

I got two iPhone 12 Mini and i have found one with more vibrant colors!
Maybe its because of tempered glass added (the other one doesnt have tempered glass on it)

A very good point!

There were three 12 pros in my family gathering this christmas (all bought near release) at christmas and when I told them about the color issue this christmas they all said «I dont have that». But when I looked at their screens it was obvious that their screens had the yellowing. I just went along with it. As long as they are happy about it I dont see a reason to make a fuss.

The meaning of this story is that many people will just accept a yellow screen without question. But for color sensitive work/persons who are used to or work with calibrated displays it simply doesnt work. I guess Apple know their customers very well.

Guys, are you sure this is not somehow the (wrong) behavior of the new XDR display?

I tried to record a video (HDR), and when it plays, the screen is perfectly white. Then when playback ends, it becomes yellow again... As if the true white calibration is for the HDR playback? Very strange.

(This reminds me of some other reports regarding the raised blacks, where people were saying that true black - aka pixels off - happen only in HDR mode...)

Try to record an HDR video and then play it, and you'll see what I mean that it becomes whiter (it shows only with video, not photos).

I don’t mind the slight yellow screen on my Mini, like I said earlier, color filters improved this for me. I never hope an OLED panel to have clear white based on my previous experience with Samsung’s AMOLED. But i kinda hope Apple’s QC would somehow avoid uniformity issue with their panels (whoever makes it). But turns out my screen also has slightly more red tint on the 1/3 bottom part, like many shown here. My Galaxy Nexus AMOLED from 2011 also has this.

But is a red tint or a red shift/hue caused by the viewing angle? So it disappears when looking straight?

It would help ease my mind if there’s no perfect panel for the 12 series so I don’t look the possibility to find one 😂

Well, i do notice that when you switch on the phone, the apple logo is quite white to me, then it turn a bit yellowish when the phone is up, but how sure how 'white' compare to previous phone

Don't give me hope. (Normal tempered glass did nothing perceivable to my eyes between my two minis)
