Return and go with XR? Do you think the 12’s are a write-off in terms of the display issues? No chance a software update could fix it? Or just wait it out with my AppleCare+ and demand an exchange at a later date?

Obviously I’d love to keep the 12, but just really really don’t want the hassle of multiple exchanges.

It’s been almost two months since these came out. I think if it was software they would have fixed it by now or if it was just a batch of bad panels the QC would have improved by now Like others in this thread have concluded, the warm displays seem to be intentional or Apple got cheap panels for maximum profits.

If you don’t like the panels, your only choice is to play the lottery until you get one you can tolerate or skip the 12s and try another brand or wait until the 13s (which will probably be the same if we’re being honest).

It really sucks for such expensive devices Apple doesn’t seem to give a ****.

Idk why this thread is still going

This is not an issue of panel lottery. The displays are warmer than in previous years. nothing will change until Apple either fixes it in true tone or tells Samsung and LG to fix their awful displays. But most likely this was intentional by Apple because they think a more yellow display is easier on the eyes, even though it's not true to life at all.
what about the flickering black screen that people are having problems with...

I think you’ve already made up your mind. 😉

😄 Well, I certainly have a strong preference, that’s for sure, as I’m sure you could tell😅 I would love the 12 to work out. But honestly, I really haven’t made up my mind. I feel at a bit of a loss as to what to do in fact and I my mind keeps switching back and forth about what to do!😣

I know this sounds dumb but what is the actual problem with the 12 Pro Max? I just bought one off Amazon and I have been following this thread....and if there are soo many problems with the phone then I will not bother opening it and return it unopened since I can get my money back,

Ideally I would wait for the iPhone 13 to be rebased which will hopefully sort out all the problems with the 12 Pro's but my 11 Pro Max was stolen hence why I bought the 12 Pro Max.
Do these problems with the 12 Pro Max only happen with True Tone turned on, or this happens with it even off because I never use True Tone. But then again, like many have said the phone cost me £1,000 from Amazon so it should be near perfect hence why I might not bother open it and return it. I don't know what phone to pick up though because the iPhone 13 isn't out for probably another 8 months.

There’s the biggest problem. Reading about alleged problems and thinking, before you even see the phone, that there are problems with your phone. It’s one thing to get a new phone and notice, on your own, right off the bat that something isn’t right. It’s another thing to go into your new phone ownership with the predisposition that there are problems, therefore, you are looking for problems.

Exactly why reading this thread is a bad idea.
Please look at the screen and see how it looks to you. If there is color differences (not uniform color) on the screen (blue on one side, yellow on other) then call Apple and start a return or exchange. (Amazon should have return policy)

Apple can also send you a replacement if it is really bad.

here's the thing: the 12 screen IS more yellow than previous screens, BUT that doesn't mean it is bad. It is personal preference and turning off True Tone will help immensely make it less yellow.

I did significant testing comparing my eyes to a picture I took to see if color representation was accurate... and it is.

plus, everyone gets the added benefit of less blue to make it harder to sleep (that's a joke, but kind of true, haha)

Well best of luck with whatever choice you make. Just don’t expect it to be perfect. Point in example, My first device was pink in the lower inch of the screen. The second, had frame damage out of the box, third one ( current ) has all the issues mentioned on this thread.
I’d be happy to accept a device with at least one issue , not three.

There’s two main problems:
1). The displays are poor and most of them have a heavy yellow tint/warm calibration that many find unacceptable for such an expensive product. There’s a ton of variance in the displays too. Like an example of the bottom half the screen leans pink and the top leans more green. It’s luck of the screen lottery you get a screen you tolerate. If you use the color filters in accessibility it can help with the yellow but you’re sacrificing max brightness for a bandaid fix.

2). Seems like most of the models also suffer from raised blacks/grays/green tints on blacks. If you have the screen brightness from 99%-0%, the OLED is unable to turn off the black pixels so you get this ugly green tint/flashing on pure black videos/images/screens. It’s been two months and Apple hasn’t done anything about it. They’ve been promising software fixes for it ever since launch and there’s been no fix. If you use your phone at night, it’s pretty noticeable.

Back on a 12 Pro Max after having the regular Pro since launch, really miss the larger screen.

First one with serial F2LD had perfect uniformity and no green glow at min brightness. Sadly there’s a small scratch on the screen at the bottom. Hardly noticeable but auto return nonetheless because out of the box that’s not acceptable.

Second one is serial F2LF, production date shows 1/9/2021 (not sure if accurate because that’s less than a week ago?). Everything is perfect to my eyes in terms of white, uniformity, and no gray issues at min brightness. Not even checking for the raised black issue, I couldn’t care less when in all other respects my screen is a keeper.

I’m 100% happy with my 12 PM using the color filter and night shift combo. It looks fantastic now. Used the same settings on my wife’s standard 12 and she finds it much better too.

Was it T-Mobile unlocked version ?

guys i also solved the problem of the yellow tint through a combination of night shift and color filters .. but it's like applying a plaster to a wound .. not even the 14.4 beta 2 seems to solve the problem .. at this point or I keep it so or i sell it .. i have to think about it

I can't see any max brightness change when using the color filter. Warmer screens just look brighter.

Could you please share your settings?

It’s actually cooler screens that are usually perceived to be brighter than warm screens. There is definitely a loss in brightness which you can observe by setting a shortcut (three clicks on the side button) to (de)activate the colour filter. You’ll notice the screen getting brighter when you turn off the filter. It’s also already been measured to be less bright with a colorimeter.

Returned a 3rd attempt at the mini. All 3 displays had issues referenced in this long thread.

This was the last attempt - I’m done trying with this generation. Apple will only listen to the bottom line, so the best message I can send is to withhold $ until the problems are fixed.

What really sucks is not being able to support Apple’s decision to finally release a smaller screen again. I hope they actually read the “reason for return” feedback, as everything else about the mini was better than the X I will now be sticking with.

Just received my new 12 mini yesterday, having upgraded from an XR. Out of the box I knew something was wrong with the display, it had such an insanely yellow tint. Sitting next to my XR it was wild that the 2 year old XR with an LCD display was better able to reproduce colours and whites than my brand new, much more expensive, OLED-equipped device! I googled it straight away and, much to my disappointment, discovered that it’s a widespread issue once I found this thread, amongst others. I have started a support case with apple and they are ringing me tomorrow to discuss it.

My question is this. Should I go through the whole rigmarole of exchanging the 12 mini for a new one seeing as I’m in the 14 day return window? Given that the issues with the display seem so widespread, there’s no guarantee that any new 12 mini I was given would be free from this issue and it seems a complete lottery.

Or, should I instead return the mini, and buy a used XR to tide me over until the iPhone 13’s are released? I‘ve already given away my old XR to my Dad, who was running a 6, and is delighted with his new phone, so don’t have the heart to get that one back. I have paid for AppleCare+ on the 12 mini, if that makes any difference.
Definitely return it, that’s what I’ve done with mine and bought 11 instead.
You can try getting another 12 but all iphone 12’s are affected, there’s also a green glow issue and flickering issue.
Some people are having their 5th-7th iPhones 12 and they are still bad screens with yellow tint so you might as well skip 12 like I did.

Weird this year that 11 series not down significantly in price yet. 11 pro max still near msrp. Like know more sales based on some of these issues.

Do you guys really think iPhone 13 will fix this? I don't. I don't think the average person would even notice if they were even yellower later this year, lol, sadly.

its been a problem forever. even iPhone 11 Pro people were complaining about yellow tint,
