I think some of the people with the yellow tint think it's more yellow than it is because once you hear something you tend to focus on it more.

I gave it a fair shot. Didn’t compare it with anything until I decided it just didn’t look right of its own accord.

If your device is d65 calibrated, then is yellow. Like every single 12 series. We are used to bluish screens. Warm2 to setting in tvs is close to 6500k and is yellow.
No.. maybe YOU are used to blueish screens. I always work with calibrated screens. And my ones are always calibrated (if possible) to D65. The reference whitepoint of sRGB and Display-P3 and also Rec.2020.

And if you looked onto my photo (on a well calibrated screen), you would've seen that all my iPhones are almost D65 (6500k) with some margin of error that is not really relevant to a phone (at least not for me.)

I was referring WE as humanity, dont take it personal.

No worries. I don't take it personal ;)

But if people are used to bluish screens, then there's something wrong. Almost every monitor I ever used or seen was factory set to (almost) 6500k. iPhones are also set to around 6500K. Even the old 6 or the SE(1) is set to 6500K with some slight shift because of age and probably also inaccuracy.

You got a good 12 pro. many would kill for that
Well, my brother's one is exactly the same. And his one was ordered just a month ago. Maybe there are really some (a lot) bad batches out there or people are just used to "wrong" screen colors.

I agree though that True Tone on the 12 is a good amount too yellow compared to other iPhones. But without... looks pretty good.

These are mine compared with a MacBook 2020 and iPhone 12, my 12 pro on left- brothers 12 on the right. The mac in not washed out it just the picture

The left iPhone looks washed out to me. No real blacks. All the blacks look kinda gray. OLED should give you crisp, deep blacks.

its slightly more out of focus in the picture and looks like bold text is on on the right phone
OH.. now I see it. Yeah. Hard to compare with so different settings.

Try a HDR test video from youtube to compare contrast. Like this one

If they look identical on both in terms of blacks and contrast, the display is probably fine in that regards.

Im not going to make a huge deal because I got this phone for $150 at Verizon. And if I take it to apple and exchange it they will give me a refurbished phone

I don’t because I prefer light Mode. Has nothing to do with OLED. I always use light mode on every device. I prefer black text on white background.
Well, I have a 12 mini, so I personally care about battery life. Besides, white/grey text on a dark background is much more pleasant on my eyes.

Did you happen to trade in an XR? I did and paid the same for the 12. $150

Question about pure blacks...

With the screen off, does the screen, under certain ambient light, look kind of gray when viewing off-axis? Like you can really see the bezels and notch?

Right now I’m sitting on a couch with the phone (screen off) about a foot away on my right, with diffused light coming from a window further right. The screen is a gray/green color and the bezels and notch really stand out.

When I watched the HDR video posted here, it looked good until I tilted the phone sideways a little bit. At that point, the pure-black portions of the video were gray/green.

So like, the pixels are turned off I guess and that’s why it looked gray? Or should the black portions look the same all the time, even if off-axis?
