Guys, as reported by several sources, Apple has just released a newer/different version of iOS 14.2 dedicated to iPhone 12 users. I'm reading this news on many websites. Maybe it has some sort of fix for our issue?
At the moment I haven't received the update notification on my 12 PM yet. I'll keep checking. Please report here if you find out anything.

People,

Although past experiences may shape the present and the future that it's not always the case.

First and foremost, there's never been a yellow tint issue reported with that extreme intensity (now we are at page 84 as I speak).
Essentially, we don't know yet the nature of the problem. Just because there has been yellow tint in older models, (which, as I've said, hasn't been that intense) , doesn't mean that it shares the same nature.

Who knows if this time has to do with true tone. If true tone is too aggressive on, and then when it's turned off a yellow tint can be seen, there's a chance there's a problem with the system managing true tone.

It is perfectly possible that it is a software issue. Not related to calibration but related to the system managing true tone.
I could do a 2 page post talking about different possibilities regarding software issues.
So, as we don't know yet. I wouldn't incur in the irresponsibility of encouraging or discouraging people to take determinate actions and to kill peoples hopes and expecations.

If it's a software issue, we'll know within a month. If it's not, a chance could be that first units were not as good as the ones that are going to be produced in a future. Then an exchange will be possible, and even more possible for those who received their units after Nov 10th.

And there's another chance ,that I think we should all start to be ready to have this conversation: maybe LCD cool-blueish is not what defines a good display and maybe it's just us getting used to what a good display should be showing.

So, plenty of possibilities out there and all end happily.

Be kind and responsible with the users please.

Regards.
Funny, I was just thinking the same thing! It's kind of wishful thinking buuuut, what if it is really a software bug that makes that true tone is never really off? It would explain the different hues we see (because true tone depends on the ambient light).
Maybe I'm crazy but I noticed my whites sometimes look too red and sometimes too green/yellow.

A quick question could the flickering or glowing gray at certain levels of brightness have anything to do with the ambient light sensor not properly working just wondering

I don't have issues with flickering or glowing gray but I've seen brightness sudden bumps, not gradual change, when brightness set to max, from quite dim to significantly brighter... So, there might be some issues there aswell.

Yeah mine does the flickering and glowing gray on the black YouTube video in total darkness at anything below around 70% brightness but above that the pixels completely shut off and they shut off if you slide the brightness completely off it’s very puzzling I have never encountered this on a phone before

Reading the two threads regarding yellow screen and raised blacks / flickering and have checked my iPhone 12 Pro Max (128GB / UK Stock / Apple Store purchase) and happily it doesn't suffer either problem.

However, I would say that True Tone is definitely more aggressive on this screen, compared to other iOs devices I have, to the extent I have disabled it for the time being which gives a very neutral white, possibly very slightly biased to the blue end of the spectrum which is pretty common. My guess the implementation of True Tone on these displays will likely be addressed in a future software update.

Just registered to confirm that my 12 Pro have yellow sreen issue. Im waiting 7 days to see if there will be some kind of update, but as i see this is the hardware issue. This thread have now 85 pages so this is very widespread issue with phone that cost over 1000 euros. Shame on Apple!

If I access YouTube through the google browser anything above 25% brightness the pixels shut off and below they just glow gray but through the YouTube app they flicker and glow gray at various levels really strange

Did you check the raised blacks with brightness at 100% by any chance? If so you check with 75/50/25/0%, I thought mine was clear of this as well and turns out it's not.

As for the yellow cast, is there any chance you can post a picture alongside a previous iPhone? What are the first 5 digits of your SN?

I purchased through Verizon the day after thanksgiving is my last day of the 14 to return but I have apple care debating whether or not to stick it out I love the battery life on this phone it’s insane and if it’s not resolved through a software update I can request a new display decisions decisions

Do you think that we must send (or go, in this pandemic) to Apple Service Centre multiple times to win lottery good screen for more than a 1000 bucks? Very disappointed.

Just checked black screen at 100% brightness and increments below and it's pure black - no light being emitted, no flickering and no green. As far as yellow tint - you'll just have to take my word on that one but, like I said, True Tone does seem to be more aggressive where by I notice it compared to my iPad Air and iPhone 11 but once it's turned off the display is definitely white with no yellow.

Did you check through the YouTube video just asking

Just watched interesting video regarding green tint issue. Seems like there are issues with pannels not software:

This is a common oled display issue I’ve found on many oled screen devices my 1st iPhone 12 mini suffered from it and had it replaced this mini has no yellow tint or green tint. My xs has slight green tint but it didn’t bother me

Checked YouTube black video and also a pure black image.

Awesome for you I would swap mine but the damn back order is early December for most of the 12 pro max units on Verizon I have a note 20 ultra that I can use in the mean time which has a beautiful display but damn all my family have iPhone and my friends it’s just a minor inconvenience but I am leaning towards the return and just playing the waiting game and if the second unit doesn’t solve the issue I will return it for a complete refund and just wait for the 13 series....smdh

If you have a PM you can replace/return it until January. Wait time should be lower then.

Yep, imagine it's frustrating when you lay out such a huge amount for a device. Only reason I posted was to give some perspective that it's not all screens which, in it self, points more towards it being a hardware issue?

Yeah I was thinking the same thing about hardware because not every unit is affected it’s a bummer just don’t understand what the hell happened with production this year
