When you start the panel lottery foto I make a return and a ne purchase every time o do you try to make a swap with a a new model while you’re in the return period? Is there a limit? Have you ever heard about a ban for too many returns? Thanks
Guys. Went to the Apple Store to pick up my 3rd 12 Pro Max today. Again, it had the same warm screen. I think my original 12 Pro Max has a very slightly whiter screen overall and I think I will keep this one and return the others. I have also compared to two of my friend’s as they look the same.

As previously mentioned a few days ago on this forum, my 12 Pro was bought at launch as was my first 12 Pro Max and these were both received on their respective launch dates by delivery.

The 2nd 12 Pro Max I bought in London at the White City Apple Store this Tuesday and the 3rd at London Regent’s Street Apple Store today (Saturday).

Having bought 4 new phones in total, on different days and at different stores and then all exhibiting a warmer hue than any of my other many Apple products, I think it is fair to assume that OVERALL there is a warmer tint this year. This, combined with my discussion with Apple store employees a few days back and other members on this forum reiterating that this may be the new normal, solidifies my opinion.

I would not say any of my screens are actually YELLOW, but they are warmer. No other black/grey/green issues - looked in dark room, all same brightness, blacks and whites, True Tone and night shift off, no filters.

I think that many people who compare to past models will realise theirs is warmer but this warmth is not the defected yellow. Without doubt though, there is variation and I think there are some really yellow ones out there, but for the most part, this may just be the new normal. I’ve bought almost every iPhone since the 4s and this is the first time I’ve bought multiple due to their screens.

When I just look at the phone alone, the whites do look pure white - it is only when you compare it next to something else that it looks noticeably warm, so perhaps those on this forum saying they have pure white/blue/ no issue/perfect phones are just those who either have not compared to an older generation, or perhaps are not as sensitive to shifts in hue. I find myself when out and about using my 12 Pro Max thinking that the screen is really white/blue. (Of course True Tone is always off for those of you who still think to say “Turn off True Tone.”)

Good luck to anyone who still decides to go on a crusade looking for a screen the same as their 11 Pro Maxes, but I doubt you’ll find it. I’m out. I’ll keep this 12 Pro Max and be content. I’ll change it next year again anyway. 😂

Crap, I didn’t know that you had to pay for AppleCare+ to get express replacement. I was hoping to be able to compare phones in my home before deciding if the replacement is better than my current one. Going to be hard to do if I have to do it in the Apple Store, plus if you go into an Apple Store you run the risk of the employees deciding your issue, the green tint in my case, isn’t bad enough to warrant replacement. Had I bought the phone outright, which I usually do, I would just return it, but AT&T was giving $700 with trade in of my iPhone X with a 30 month payment plan, so I did that through the Apple Store app.

You don’t need AppleCare+ do to Express Replacement. All AppleCare will do for you is negate the $29 fee for an express replacement.
I have utilized the Express Replacement service a handful of times over the past several years. Not once have I ever purchased AppleCare+ and many times they will wave the $29 fee if you sweet talk just right.
All phones have a 1 year limited warranty against defects. If your screen is not as expected, that could be considered a defect.
Many people don’t think to do this, but everything you need to know about an Express Replacement service is buried a little deep on Apple’s website, but they post everything about it.

Here in the Netherlands they don’t do what you’ve described. Only way to swap it is in the Apple store. (2 hours drive for me). So without Apple care + you have to send it back and then they’ll send a new one. Or when the return period is over then you send it to Apple and then they try to repair your device and then you get it back after a week or so. So without ac+ you’ll be without a phone. Really annoying!

Read between the lines. All it says is that there is a $29 fee UNLESS you use Express Replacement through your AppleCare+. If you have a manufacturer defect, that is covered under the Limited Warranty; an express replacement service will be provided.
They promote it as being a benefit of AppleCare+ so you buy into it. IT IS NOT REQUIRED. Believe me, I’ve done it a handful of times without EVER having AppleCare+.
Again, they list it as being a benefit to AppleCare+, but, a manufacturer’s defect falls under their Limited Warranty and or Consumer Law. Therefore, Express Replacement service applies to all. When I have used it, I wait for the replacement phone, compare replacement to original, determine which has a better screen and then send whichever one back.
If I send back the replacement phone, I make sure they notate that on my case number so all records are accurate.

In old models when you saw a video in hdr the screen seemed to turn yellow .. isn't it by chance that the new iphone 12 has a yellow screen because it has hdr always on?

Hmm... well... I don’t know what to tell you. I JUST did it and sent the replacement back a few days ago. Here’s my chat...
Read Makayla’s response; clearly proves my point. Perhaps you spoke to a misinformed rep.
The fee was $29, just like all other times in past years I’ve utilized it.

I just pressed them further on this. Looks like you’re right. Just a shameful tactic to upsell people to AppleCare+ it seems by presenting it as if you can only do it with AppleCare+.
Exactly. They lead you to believe that you have to purchase AppleCare+ but then subsequently mention Limited Warranty and Consumer Law because legally they have to. But they DON’T have to lead you to believe the service is covered under those two clauses. Marketing geniuses; that’s why it’s important to read what they tell you but MORE IMPORTANTLY to read what they DON’T tell you.

interesting point.
How it works? Do they send you a sealed brand new replacement or a white box replacement even if you’re in the returning window?

And still: if the replacement is worst than your can you send back the replacement?

Yes... they send you a white box replacement. They will claim it may be refurbished, but the 12 is too new for them to have refurbished ones.
Along with the replacement phone, comes instructions on how to return your original in that same packaging. They WILL allow you to return replacement phone as well... you just have to make sure that you contact them and tell them exactly what your intentions are so there’s no gap in warranty coverage on your original (if you chose to keep it). Be open and clear with the rep before you agree to Replacement Service so they agree that you can return replacement phone if it is not satisfactory. Cover your ground and keep copies of your chats.

I bought my Graphite 12 Pro Max .. Asked myself, is my 11 Pro Max this yellow .. Made the comparison .. The answer was no .. I've owned a lot of iPhones over the years; I've never questioned the color accuracy until now .. I did my research (e.g. I've read every page here) .. Followed all settings recommendations; it's still yellow .. Went to 'color filters' .. Tried to make my display look like my white iPhone 11 PM display .. Unsuccessful .. Returned the 12 Pro Max .. Now I've ordered another (Pacific Blue this time) .. I'll update this when that one shows up in a couple/three weeks.

Good luck with the replacement, you don't loose anything by trying. Your thought process is a great example of common sense. Everyone should continue exchanging their devices or just returning them and sticking to their current iPhones. After doing my own visits to see various units, I quickly realized this was not your typical bad luck from the first batch issue and just flat our returned the 12 Pro I had purchased.

I feel really sorry for the people who are settling, justifying the decision by thinking this is the new norm. This issue with the yellow tint is more pervasive this year and people just assume it must be normal instead of realizing that Apple just F'ed up this year. And because of people settling, and the lack of Macrumors / 9toMac and the likes not reporting this issue, I really believe that Apple will just ignore the issue. If they had any intentions of providing a software update to allow user to adjust the whitepoint, we would know by now.

Just looked at Costco’s iPhones. 12 Pro Max is same yellow as mine, serial F2LD. iPhone 12 is absolutely perfect white, serial F17. So they do exist I’ve seen them with my own eyes.
My 12 Regular is perfect white as well. Colors pop, it’s vibrant and has no color shifting. Serial F17

I think that is important that people read experiences like yours, to help them understand that their yellow tinted screens are not normal. No one should settle.

On my 3rd 12PM Max - still yellow and greys don’t look that great in low light. Ordered from Apple for delivery on the 15th Dec - hoping for a fresh batch. All my devices have been weeks 40 and 41.

At this point, they can update the display controller software related to panels that are yellow (i think that all of yellow panels are from the same manufacturer, no matter what)
OR
Make a recall program

Please people, do not accept yellow screen for a $1000, it is YOUR hard earned money!

its really cool zollotech took the time to take a look at the issue + take it seriously

however, hard to see in the video the differences, especially against that white backdrop.

some well photographed pictures would've been better

Just returned my 12 Pro Max. Don't settle for this mediocre screen. We paid top dollar for our phones. Apple will start to notice when they get huge amounts of returns. For now I will stay with my X until this issue gets resolved. If it doesn't then I will make a switch to android for the first time since the iPhone 4.

My 12 pro max is F2LD and the whites are bright white as bleached white teeth but I have the grey glow and flickering at certain levels of brightness the same issues that the 11 series had and was fixed with a software update and the 27 of this month is the last day of the 14 day return period but I have apple care + so I am keeping the faith but would be a different story with a yellow display

As white as a previous iPhone/Mac?

Well to my eyes and I set both settings on my daughters 11 pro max which was previously mine the same and compared whites and asked her to compare and she choose the 12 pro max keep in mind she is 12 her eyes and much better than mine at my age also I checked a few out at Best Buy today and their units were good white points if I remember but again just my eyes and I know that yellow displays are out there because I have seen them in this thread and I would definitely return those
