Why did you get an express replacement then?
Why did you get an express replacement then?
I’ve had such bad luck with inferior displays in the past, that I wanted to have a comparison base.

Side note: I have started to noticed that my display has a very slight warmer hue towards the lower 1/3rd of the screen. BUT.... it is so negligible and can’t even notice it 99% of the time that I am NOT going jump back into the screen lottery when this is the best screen I have seen in years; whites are true white, colors pop and is bright and vibrant.

I’m thinking that the closer a white screen looks to a piece of white paper in ambient light with TT on the better. I have been keeping TT on as with it off the screen looks too yellow outside and too blue inside.

Ok I gave up after two iPhone 12 Pro Max with yellow/warm screens I decided couldn’t cope with it and changed to a iPhone 12 and saved £300 and got a perfect white screen. (The iPhone 12 Pro Max on the left has Truetone turned off as well)

A Lot of this info here is speculation. I can say for sure I have a iPhone 12 PRO 256 gb Graphite launch date phone (production date 10/4). The screen is perfect. I compared to numerous phones in various apple stores and I am convinced it is one of the best screens out there. It's a F17 and a Samsung G9P screen (supposedly the bad one) Who is determining that the G9P is bad? Thats toals BS.
I am totally happy (This coming from a person who returned 5 iPhone XS phone because of the yellow screen) I am also a color matcher by trade if anyone is interested. Thats my 2 cents.

Hi, maybe a missed some posts but how did you find your screen manufacturer and model? Thx

I’m very happy with my 12 PM too. The screen is slightly warmer than my 11 PM and TT is working well now that I did a factory reset. The grays are also very uniform with no vertical banding that my 11 PM had.

Agreed. The whole G9P screen thing is another conspiracy, in my opinion. If that’s the case, how is my F17 cool blue, vibrant, color shiftless, color popping display supposedly bad? It’s one of the best displays I’ve ever had as well.

Please stop making up conspiracies. What should be the intention. I too would like to know more about the source of screen prefix, but no one has said g9p is guaranteed to be bad, just in statistical terms the probability is higher. I have a g9p screen myself and it is yellow. I think it is either poorly calibrated or shipped with a wrong color profile.

Makes sense, I guess. How did you get Apple to agree to send one? Or did you just pay the $29?
I just paid the $29. Apple chat rep mentioned that if I called and spoke to a senior rep, they may be able to waive the fee. However; because my own curiosity was something out of want, rather than necessity from defect, I opted to simply pay the fee. That was my choice.

Reports are already surfacing of a classic annual tradition in iPhone land - the dumping of yellow tinted reject screens on unsuspecting consumers.

This happens literally every year, since the iPhone 3G. Every. Year. without fail. Same tint. Same excuses from Apple apologists.

The fact is, not all iPhone 12 screens will be the same tint. Some will be more yellow/worse than others.

Weather or not you believe, as I do, that Apple intentionally relaxes tolerances to maximize yield for launch, here is what you can do:

The Test

The test is to open the Settings screen, with True Tone off, and dark mode off, 75% brightness. Compare to another phone on exact same settings. Which one is more yellow?

What to compare to

It probably already looks different than your old phone, which is why you are here. Something seems "off" about the new display. Compare to old phone. Yellow? Proceed to next step.

Compare to an Apple Display Phone

Use the same test criteria to compare to an Apple display phone. It either matches or it doesn't. If it doesn't, RETURN THE PHONE IMMEDIATELY.

Even the most blind Apple fanboi can admit - if it doesn't match the display phone, it must be defective.

The Kicker

On Launch day, some if not all Display phones will also be yellow. Invariably, within 4 days of launch, they will all be swapped for pristine, 100% non yellow phones. Swear to god as my witness. 100% chance they will be swapped.

If your yellow phone matches a display phone on day 1, wait a week. Then compare. Doesn't match? RETURN THE PHONE.

Only you can stop Apple from dumping low grade panels on the masses.

Thank you.

I have owned EVERY iPhone since the OG, and I've yet to see this. Not saying it's not true, but sounds to me like you're a tad bit hyperbolic.

I work in quality control, you don't catch every single issue, my company refurbs thousands of iPhones a week and I've only seen this a handful of times, well within the AQL.

During set up all the iphones I've ever gotten have that yellowish tint. But for some reason before the 12's it would go away after initial set up.

Seems to hang with the 12's.

Wow that looks as bad as mine. Just horrible and disappointing

Did factory reset really work?
Am thinking to give it a try... is there anything not backed up to iCloud?
My screen is slightly more yellow than my 11pro.... I mind it a bit, but given that people have found such bad phones am not gonna risk replace yet.. maybe february

Every new iPhone I have gotten, has always had a much warmer screen than the one I'm replacing it with. Then the same thing happens the following year. That same iPhone that had a much warmer screen last year, now has a cooler blue screen when compared with the newer iPhone I just got.

I believe the screen "temperature" or "tint" (whichever you want to call it) changes over time. So what you get out of the box is not necessarily what you are stuck with during the time you own the phone.

It seemed to help with the TT not being as aggressive.

When you start the panel lottery foto I make a return and a ne purchase every time o do you try to make a swap with a a new model while you’re in the return period? Is there a limit? Have you ever heard about a ban for too many returns? Thanks
