Has any one else experienced some cursor lag when using the trackpad on Yosemite? I notice that if I leave the cursor static for a while then move it there is a delay between my input on the trackpad and movement of the cursor on screen. The same thing happens with my bluetooth mouse. Any ideas or a possible fix would be great. Thanks in advance

I've been having that too; and, it's particularly noticeable on Safari.

----------

Update: HAD a fix. worked fine for about 10 min, now acting up again....

Was on with Apple tech support today- after running through the gamut of initial potential fixes (which didn't work - restarting, trying other peripherals, safe mode, etc), they advised reinstalling 10.10 and now the mouse/keyboard are working as normal.

Hold down Command+R while turning on computer, choose reinstall and wait ~45 min as it downloads/reinstalls. I was told you probably do not need to backup before. Good luck!

Always backup before!

----------

UPDATE HERE:
In my case, the bluetooth magic mouse and keybord have a lag only when the battery charger is unplugged. When I plugi in the charger, everything work very good and no lag.

Can you do this test?

I have it whether or not the charger is unplugged.

----------

Mine lags even when connected. I just did a clean install and will see if it keeps on happening. I guess it will.

Mine did this even after a clean install. In fact, it has done it more consistently since the clean install.

----------

So I went to my local Apple store today to carry out some research. I tried to replicate the cursor lag issue on all of the notebooks they had in store.

From what I can tell, this issue (on notebooks) only seems to effect the 13 inch retina models. Of the three I tested the issue was easily reproducible. However what surprised me was I tried the same thing on four 15 inch retina pros as well as a couple of macbook airs (11 and 13 inch) and I couldn't detect and sort of cursor lag.

It seems strange to me. Is there anyone here who is experiencing trackpad cursor lag on 15 inch retina pros or macbook airs?

I'm on a 15 inch Retina MBP, and I'm experiencing it.

----------

facing this on my macbook pro 17inch and imac 27 inch, fresh installed yosemite on both, used trackpad on both, while moving any windows it just jumps and goes to the bottom of the screen, i thought some battery problem so i changed but still the same on both Macs

Mine also jumps and goes elsewhere on the screen. I find this particularly troublesome.

It doesn't seem like 10.10.1 has solved anything, I'm still experiencing exactly the same cursor lag issues... How's everyone else doing?

It's worse for me with 10.10.1

Interestingly enough, this is happening far less with the update to Safari. I would have expected the lagging to improve on Safari, but it has improved on my Mac as well. This, I don't completely understand.

Are you sure? That sounds so weird. O don't understand why Safari would make any difference. Anyway, if you end up noticing the lag has improved over the next few days using Safari 8.0.3 let us know. Thanks for reporting back.

In the meantime, I'm back on Mavericks. I guess I'll only upgrade once 10.10.4 or 5 is out. My experience with Yosemite was so bad that I'm not sure if I want to upgrade again before I'm sure it's ready to be used.

Truly strange! At the same time as Safari updated to 8.0.2, there was an Incompatible Kernel Extension Config data update. Could this have caused the improvement, because it really is improved.

Maybe that was it. At least it makes more sense than Safari alone.

That's good to hear. Sadly even after the update I'm still experiencing lag on my machine.

I had this issue too. You won't like this but I have a temporary fix. Turn off WiFi.

This was the solution for me as well. I think it might have something to do with the low-quality wifi network that I have at the office.

I don't think the issue is with the network. My Macbook Pro works without issues under Mavericks on the exact spot at my place where I had the lag while under Yosemite. Also, an Ethernet port would come really handy now. Maybe this is a way Apple found to make us spend money on the thunderbolt adaptors :D

I haven't posted on MR in years but I figured I'd throw my two cents in.

I have a Logitech MX and I'm quite pleased with it. When I bought my Retina iMac I noticed a lot more lag using the cursor then when I had an 'illegitimate macintosh' running Mavericks. After some research and breaking in the machine for a few days I stumbled upon Smooth Mouse and the problem seemed to go away.

While I went away for Christmas I took my machine with me and the problem seemed to have returned.

I tried using my Magic Trackpad, which is bluetooth (the Logitech uses RF) and the issue persisted.

I uninstalled SmoothMouse and installed SteerMouse. Issue persisted.

Uninstalled SteerMouse and then re-installed SmoothMouse. Issue persisted

I then read online that some folks had to quit Time Machine in order to get their mouse issues resolved (Right before the holiday I bought a WD myCloud backup disk). Tried that, and the issue persisted.

I then read some folks saying that the issue was related to bluetooth interference caused by WiFi. Again, the MX is RF not Bluetooth but I figured I could try this as well. I connected an ethernet cable, turned off WiFi and the issue persisted.

The next step is obviously to create a new account, re-test, reinstall the OS, visit and apple store, etc, etc. But this makes absolutely no sense. What on earth could have changed in a matter of days (no new OS updates had been released) that would have my mouse misperforming. I have not installed any new software that should have touched mouse drivers, so then what could it be....

Ah ha! My external display (Dell U2211H) was not plugged in. Oh, wait - it was plugged in. But it was turned off. I turned on the display and viola - my Logitech MX and Magic Mouse seem to be working (granted, I am using smooth mouse still).

My next step in documenting this before sending to Apple Engineering will be to disconnect the display completely and see if it's related to the display being connected but not turned on. And finally I will document the display being on (if that ends up mattering) and uninstall Smooth Mouse. Perhaps the issue that I thought was resolved with Smooth Mouse is actually related to my Display Port display and I just happened to plug my display in around the same time that I connected the secondary monitor.

Anyway, this is by far the most perplexing issue that I've had to troubleshoot in a very, very long time.

Thanks for your reply. With me, it happens with the external screen connected and disconnected so I guess we're experiencing the same issue with different causes.

I have been on the phone with Apple support because of this issue and on the last call we made some progress.

Luckily, I was getting heavy cursor lag (it's random, that's why I got lucky) during the call so we could troubleshoot a bit. One of the things the Apple employee told me to do was an Internet speed test with and without Bluetooth turned on. Wow, what a difference.

BT and Magic Mouse On = 1Mbps tops
BT Off = 80Mbps

I managed to reproduce this every time.

He then asked me to boot into Safe Mode so we could test it out and it did not happen. I wasn't getting any lag and the speeds were ok with BT on and off.

He then said that this was probably due to an app since nothing was happening on Safe Mode. We agreed to talk again whenever I could do a TM backup and make (another) clean install so we could see if we managed to reproduce it this time.

Thing is, as soon as I hung up and rebooted into the OS, I wasn't having lag and the speeds were ok with both BT on and off.

What I found out is that, with some uptime, I am able to slow down my Internet by just turning the BT on.

Could you try this and see if you are able to reproduce it? Go to speedtest.net and make some tests from where you usually use your Macbook. Then try it with BT on. Then, when you actually start getting the cursor lag, test it again with BT on and off and let us know the results.

I'm connected to a 2.4GHz wireless network btw. And this could be related to all the wifi issues Yosemite has.

I'll call Apple again tomorrow and let them know about the new updates on this.

Btw, I tried changing the channels on the network and it didn't help. Also, with exactly the same setup, I did not have any issues under Mavericks.

I'm having similar issues with the wifi speeds too.

My post about it: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1833495/

Definitely Related to 2nd Screen

Unplugging my monitor immediately fixes this issue. For me, this is definitely not related to bluetooth or wifi.

Is that the 10.10.2 release? This has been driving me crazy on my 13" Macbook Air.

Yeah, it's still in pre-release status. (for now, just unplug your external display and then plug it back in - seems to work for me)

So I've just finished some brief testing after installing 10.10.2 and I think this update has finally fixed the cursor lag issues for me.

Thanks, but I guess it isn't a 100% sweep. It looked like it was fixed, but the lag has returned. I also unfortunately upgraded another MBP retina from mavericks to 10.10.2 and it is suffering from the same lag across all programs after a couple hours of uptime.

Amazing. 10.11 will be announced and this and all the other bugs on Yosemite still won't be fixed by then. Seriously, this is ridiculous.

Thank you guys for testing and leaving feedback.

I've been having issues with this for months on a 2013 iMac. I obviously can't turn off bluetooth and test because I have no other way to control my Mac except with the bluetooth trackpad.

Interestingly enough, the lag gets worse as the battery drains in my trackpad. Once it hits 50% battery, it's really bad. At 100% the lag is shorter, but not gone.

I'm on 10.10.2

I had the same problem starting after 10.10.2. I checked my console and found that the app Wifi Signal was giving tons of errors. I disabled it and uninstalled it and resolved all the magic mouse lag issues.

Just stumbled on to this thread. My Magic Mouse has been behaving erratically since I migrated on to my new 2014 Mac Mini running Yosemite 10.10.2.

Long story short, turn OFF wi-fi. All seems to be well now.

On the bright side, I now have the cleanest mouse in the southern hemisphere and a brand new (expensive) mouse-pad.

just now experiencing this on my new refurb, glad there's others on it. It was driving me nuts thinking it was just happening to me.

Love MR for stuff like this! I'm on 10.9.4 also, is it still persistent on 10.9.5/yosemite?

plugged in a portable external, doesn't do it.
