Getting same lag here, especially in About This Mac and just in general.

Fresh startup, only Safari open.

Ditto, with the same config as above.

I presume this can be corrected with a software update? I just can't imagine this being standard performance on relatively new hardware. That said, I also had choppy animation when going to full-screen in Mavericks.

It just uses more power/battery. It's what most desktop uses, one graphics card. We have two to save battery on applications that don't need the power, and for when it's not plugged in. But I rather have a smooth experience with no lag than a bit shorter battery life.

Yes I understand why we have two but I just wanted to make sure there was no risk of always using the dedicated card.

I also tried the macs in the store and the only ones that had very minimal lag was the newest 15" rMBP. Even the newest 13" had lag so this must be some kind of issue.

I'm also experiencing stuttering animations on my Late 2013 rMBP.

The most annoying is the zoom-in effect of the Open and Save windows. It looks really choppy. Mavericks was perfectly smooth on this MBP.

I turned off the window animations using this command in Terminal:

Code:
defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSAutomaticWindowAnimationsEnabled -bool false

Well for me Mavericks 10.9.0 (and even the DPs) was an improvement over ML and especially Lion in respect to responsiveness and fluidity. Yosemite is regression in that respect. It's like downgrading to Lion when it comes to scrolling list views and resizing windows in the finder.

Clicking on About This Mac and cycling through the different tabs. The animations look like they're running at 10 fps.

Not quite 10 fps, but I can see sluggishness here.

In System Preferences - clicking on the options and returning back to the main menu
Not quite as smooth as it should be, but I didn't even notice it until you pointed it out

Quick Preview - doesn't do the full animation (sometimes)

This one is actually really bad for me. The animation is choppy when it does happen and sometimes it is so bad that the animation seems to get skipped completely.

Yet, when I swipe up on the trackpad to get to my spaces, it runs extremely smooth. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Very smooth going into spaces and moving between them.

It's lagging on my Mac Pro with D700 as well. The UI is choppy. Not 60 fps for sure. I have reported this as a bug during the beta. I suppose they have some optimizations to do with Yosemite UI which didn't make the cut for release.

I'm surprised there aren't more posters reporting this....

On my late 2009 iMac, the UI lag is pretty horrible in Yosemite, whereas it was pretty much non-existent in Mavericks.

On my late 2013 rmbp, the UI lag is pretty bad in Yosemite as well, whereas it is a bit better if I force it to use the 750m discrete graphics card.

Same here with rMBP mid-2014. Choppy animations and scrolling ranging from Preview.app, Finder to System Preferences. At this rate I'm gonna rollback to Mavericks where everything is buttery smooth

rMBP late 2012 on Intel 4000 Graphics
yes it's choppy on all the cases you guys mentioned above.
Try to change to "Best for retina" scaling. Absolutely smooth.
My 2 cents: Their magic scaling software sux.

2012 15" here, getting bad performance with most animations, including switching spaces, mission control, and quick view. Sometimes animations get stuck too, especially notification center. Turning off graphics switching helps some (obviously) but Yosemite has lessened my battery life as it is, so I'm going to leave switching on.

MBPr 2012 15" too, and the lag is unbearable when switching spaces - which make my MBP a pain to use since I use it mostly for programming where I switch space several time per minute...
I tried forcing the discrete GPU, reducing transparancies but nothing works. I really hope Apple is aware of the problem and will issue a fix soon. I don't understand why this isn't making front page news on this site, this is a really major issue.

Same here on my top end 2014-rMBP. UI lag on the about this mac window is terrible.

Elsewhere it seems to be fine though. Apart from when the battery drops to ~3%... the UI runs very very laggy. I guess this is due to the OS trying to conserve battery or something?

I know Xbench hasn't been updated since a long time ago, but here are my results for the graphics tests only, comparing Yosemite vs Mavericks running on a Late 2013 rMBP (full specs here):

Mavericks:

Code:
Results	238.36
	System Info
		Xbench Version 1.3
		System Version 10.9.5 (13F34)
		Physical RAM 8192 MB
		Model MacBookPro11,2
		Drive Type APPLE SSD SM0256F
	Quartz Graphics Test	157.54
		Line	193.88	12.91 Klines/sec [50% alpha]
		Rectangle	174.23	52.02 Krects/sec [50% alpha]
		Circle	151.07	12.31 Kcircles/sec [50% alpha]
		Bezier	153.83	3.88 Kbeziers/sec [50% alpha]
		Text	129.53	8.10 Kchars/sec
	OpenGL Graphics Test	423.20
		Spinning Squares	423.20	536.85 frames/sec
	User Interface Test	258.04
		Elements	258.04	1.18 Krefresh/sec

Yosemite:

Code:
Results	69.28
	System Info
		Xbench Version 1.3
		System Version 10.10 (14A389)
		Physical RAM 8192 MB
		Model MacBookPro11,2
		Drive Type Macintosh HD
	Quartz Graphics Test	126.84
		Line	143.43	9.55 Klines/sec [50% alpha]
		Rectangle	130.55	38.98 Krects/sec [50% alpha]
		Circle	108.50	8.84 Kcircles/sec [50% alpha]
		Bezier	138.27	3.49 Kbeziers/sec [50% alpha]
		Text	119.92	7.50 Kchars/sec
	OpenGL Graphics Test	296.06
		Spinning Squares	296.06	375.57 frames/sec
	User Interface Test	31.21
		Elements	31.21	143.23 refresh/sec

OpenGL scores may not be relevant since Xbench is too old, but the terrible Yosemite UI score seems to confirm the sluggishness of the system.

Yeah, its the same for me too guys (Late 2013 15" rMBP). The integrated Iris Pro is noticeably slower and choppier than the discrete GT 750m when it comes to Mission Control animations, resizing windows etc.

My Late 2013 iMac (GTX 775m) is flawless, though. Super smooth, not even a hint of lag. Based on this one could argue that the Intel Iris Pro drivers are to blame. As I said before, I'm sure things will be improved by the time 10.10.2 or 10.10.3 is released.

Both machines have clean installs of Yosemite, so the lag isn't due to a wonky upgrade

I finally updated. Did a clean install, haven't added any documents back yet, just a few apps. During the installation, everything was really jerky—like the computer is when you boot to Safe Mode and it's not using the GPU. The welcome screen, for example, where the words fly by in different languages was chopped in half.

Now that it's installed, it's not like that, but it's not smooth at all. Doesn't make any difference whether transparency is reduced or not. I notice it when dragging windows, scrolling in Safari, and especially when moving between desktops (only 2) in Mission Control.

I wonder if it's a window server issue. I also notice that when I use screen sharing it takes up 42% CPU versus only 3-5% CPU in Mavericks.

I was expecting it to perform decently as I did a clean install and have avoided any plug-ins (Silverlight, Flash).

My Mac is a late 13" retina MacBook Pro, 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 16 GB RAM, Intel Iris 1536 MB.

I feel like I'm using an older, slower computer. It's not awful, but it is noticeable.

I was used to how smooth scrolling was in Safari--Apple had really improved that a lot in Mavericks.

I wonder if this can be optimized, or if OS X requires more powerful Macs than have been released yet to run well.

Update: Right after I posted this, I disconnected the computer that was sharing my rMBP's screen. I tested Mission Control again, and it was very fluid and fast. Then the whole computer froze. I've had the computer lock up in Yosemite quite a few times, but this time the cursor wouldn't move and caps lock wouldn't light up. I restarted the computer and it's still much more fluid than it had been.

Definitely some sort of screen sharing/window server issues.

Same problem on a mid 2011 iMac with a Radeon 6770M and 16GB of RAM. As soon as I open up a few apps, general UI starts to get chopping/sluggish.

Mavericks was always fine, so I am hoping it's just a driver issue and gets resolved soon.

I would say that the Radeon and Intel drivers need some optimisations, because both my rMBP's (when using the GT 750m) and iMac's Nvidia GPU show no lag.

I have a mid 2012 13-inch Macbook Pro running Yosemite 10.10 but have not had any lag or performance loss. Have you tried restarting if so try turning "Reduce transparency" on witch can me found in the "System Preferences" then click "Accessibility" then on display the last check box is "Reduce transparency" click the check box and see if that helps.

if it's really bad you could try a clean re-install of OS X 10.10

Sorry to here about your problems with the new issue I hope your able to fix it or if / when apple brings out an update to fix it.

I'm seeing similar UI lag on my late 2013 15" rMBP. After a restart everything is great, but by the end of the week switching desktops and scrolling within Safari and other apps starts to get sluggish.

I only have a handful of apps open (Safari, Airmail 2, Messages, Tweetbot, and Spotify).

Rebooting helps, but only lasts for at most a week before it starts occurring again. Disabling integrated graphics switching also improves the performance, but I like my battery :(

My loaded 2014 15" rMBP has also been really laggy in all apps after 1-3 days of use/uptime. Reboot makes it work fine, but over time it lags again. CPU/Network/Battery Usage show no glaring problems. There is clearly some kind of bug or memory leak that gets worse over time. I have just tried turning on reduce transparency after a reboot to see if that helps avoid the issue.
