The quality of this device is a big disappointment. I would have loved to have seen a polycarbonate sealed unibody construction like the Lumia 900 or HTC One X . The bezel is also made of plastic. Why can't Samsung get it right? This could be an awesome device but the cheap construction killed it for me. I'm convinced that Samsung will continue making high spec devices with poor build quality.

What about Sense and Blur? Have you had extensive experience with those? I just want an opinion from someone who's used pure android.

Have not used either extensively. I think I'd consider Blur even less than I would TW. Sense, to me, seems most tolerable.

But again, I can't imagine experiencing Android any other way than through ICS.

Really?
Because Siri is what exactly? A bought product.
Apple doesn't own the IP behind the voice recognition software.

S Voice = Samsung Voice.
Powered by Vlingo. Which has been around a lot longer than Siri. ;)

I think his point, at least how I see it, is that a LOT of Android fans were bashing Siri when it first came out. A gimmick, etc. Just find it funny/ironic that they now have it, and feel it's something special.

Because this is an Apple forum and some people can be quite bitter about rival technologies. I would expect to see the same in a new iPhone thread on an Android forum.

I LOVE the look and almost everything about it... if all of the new features work well, there are some incredibly useful features implemented. The feature that automatically tags your friends in photos will save a lot of time for Facebookers. With 64GB internal, with the ability to expand with a 64GB MicroSD and 50GB free Dropbox space, makes it the best for storage. The screen looks amazing.

The only thing I didn't really care about, although it could be useful for some, is the video popout feature. You can't properly watch a video and do other tasks at the same time...

I actually really like that video pop out feature :p

I don't get those people. I am what some might say a fanboy but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate what the competition have to offer.

A 4.8" phone with the potential for 96 GB on board storage at once (with 32 GB swapable at that). Plus a removable battery. Um...I am officially leaving the iPhone and eating my app / video investment. Thank goodness - I am officially sick of Apple and it's fanboys. I was really just waiting on that storage - I hope the US variant actually comes with a 64 GB option.

Have fun with your 3.5" - 4.0" phones for the next several years. :D

It reminds me of robot Santa in Futurama.. you know because it's an Android.

(8) It knows if you are sleeping, it knows if you're awake. It knows if you've been bad or good so be good for goodness sake! (8)

I'm overtired. I'm going to bed. :p

Can you please clarify? Is it because you have to wait for Samsung or HTC or Motorola to release their version of the android release with their skin?

Exactly that.

I saw the older HTC Magic get Android 1.6 and the Motorola Droid arrive with 2.0 and was stuck on Android 1.5.

After that I got a Nexus One and never looked back.

A lot of the software coming on the phone seems very impressive.

On-the-phone tagging of friends and facial recognition is going to be a huge slap in the face to facebook. Look for facebook to integrate this feature into upcoming Android/IOS apps (so that Google+ doesn't pull ahead of them).

If everything works as advertised then the Galaxy S III will be a slick little device.

However, I expect massive bugs. Being able to do things like yell at your phone to wake it up sounds like it would eat a battery alive. Using the camera to determine when someone is looking at the screen seems like a bad idea if you're in a crowded locale.

The interesting thing will be seeing how long it takes Samsung to fine tune all of these ambitious new features.

S-Beam is one of my favourite features, but it's a shame it will only work with other S3 owners. Check this out:

"But with S Beam, Samsung uses the NFC capability to connect the phones, but then uses Wi-Fi direct to transfer movies, photos, music or office files.
So instead of being only able to send links or map directions to a buddy, now you only have to hold the phones together, wait for the beep, tap the screen and you can send content at 300Mbps… and it really comes across that quickly too.
You can share a whole photo library almost instantly in this way – but sadly it's only limited to Galaxy S3 units, despite being theoretically possible with an HTC One X or similar."

Send an entire photo gallery instantaneously? Yes please :D

The blue on the browser bar isn't that distracting (especially since it disappears after the page loads and you scroll around).

The page that the phone happens to be browsing too makes it look ridiculous, however

I usually love new gadgets. I have owned my fair share of both iOS and Android devices. I don't know what it is, but this phone does not excite me in the least. Way to big and plasticy. Kind of seems like a boring update.

You could always install Chrome, no? That's what I used on my Nexus and it was just for ICS I think but this will be running ICS.

That would be one of the first things I did if I had one.

Edit: I will say it does go beyond that. Nova or Apex launcher will give you a "stock" launcher experience. Google Music will enable you to use Google's cloud services.

There are ways to get away from the Samsung customization which does help a little.

No BUT, the screen size and the iOS are both in dire need of updating and from the thread are here, I am not alone in this.

I do expect the fan boys to keep sitting and waiting for what will not come.

I guess I am in the minority but I very much appreciate the small device size. I use my iPhone primarily for email, iMessaging, and taking photos. The ability to do this all one-handed is a huge plus for me and will really miss the compact form factor is Apple decides to go bigger.

If I want a bigger screen, I reach for my iPad.

I hope they do different variant versions, and AT&T does another killer 4.3" version of the GSIII, like they did with the 4.3" GSII and other's like the HD and Epic had 4.5-4.65" screens etc. And I hope they stick with capacitive buttons on the US models just like the GSII I9100 had the physical home button and others got the capacitive versions.

I'm fine with my GSII though, no need to upgrade, this phone still kicks ass and with huge dev backing on XDA. Be interesting to see what happens with the Nexus line come this winter.

128 gb Samsung Galaxy S3?

If you place a 64 gb microSD card into a 64 gb Samsung Galaxy S3, you got 128 gb storage? This would be very interesting if this works.

Watch their latest commercial if you want to be disturbed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=2lpLGb1WW8E

The gimmicks in the GSIII annoy me. So do the services that most people won't want to use. Their new campaign seems bad. The phone looks bad.

But if we see past that, we still have a great big screen, a fast processor, (hopefully) good battery life with that larger battery and other optimizations, and a smooth lag-free experience.

Both the GS III and the One X are tempting me...
GSIII:
-removable battery
-possibly smoother experience than what HTC brings
-Micros SD slot
-ugly design (imo)
-annoying button design (for me)

One X:
-crisper screen
-beautiful looking design
-nice capacitive buttons (my preference)
-no Micro SD card slot
-stuck at 16GB, 12GB available to user (AT&T version)
-arguably better UI design

Most importantly, Samsung Galaxy S3 is 18% faster than the HTC One X.

It will work. 64GB MicroSDXC cards work in the S2.. there's no reason why they would remove that functionality.

Don't forget the 50GB free Dropbox ;)

I doubt they'll shrink it. AT&T likes their big phones nowadays.

With the GSII, the global/first/main reference model was already made with a 4.3" screen. AT&T didn't do anything special. They just chose not to change it.
