Youtube no longer in HDR

Cool. Now I can get back to never really looking to play YouTube hdr videos. Huge relief.
Don’t think so. I could play DV on Disney+ until a few weeks ago before the HDR debacle on Safari. They disabled it just like YouTube did but unlike YouTube they haven’t enabled it yet after the 12.1 update. Don’t have HBO Max so can’t speak to that.
I don’t know about DV on external monitors. I’m not sure if any of you with SDR-always have actually used the new Macs which have built-in screens capable of DV for the first time but I did and I can confirm that it did for me in Safari.
No, I'm on 2021 16" MBP and had it since launch day. Disney was one of the first sites I tried it on (Safari, Chrome). It never had HDR.
The Disney movies I own on the Apple TV app (that say they're HDR) don't even display HDR.
I saw the DV logo underneath the title for the Marvel movies but not anymore on my 14”.
Yeah it was there for me too, but it didn't actually display it in 4K/DV. HBOMax says something is 4K/DV but it doesn't display it neither.
As far as I know Disney and Netflix never streamed HDR into desktop web browser. They stream HDR to TVs, phones and set top boxes. They have been waiting to fully flip the switch.
I think this is probably because the most popular desktop platform Windows handles HDR badly. You have to enable HDR to watch HDR but if you do that the whole desktop gets washed out.
I'm pretty sure 4k HDR works with Netflix in Safari, fwiw.
Right on Disney though, no HDR support there.
Yeah Netflix on Safari should do HDR. Afaik it's Dolby vision.
Edit = yeah it is running DV. on low middle brightness settings I can see the Netflix window is HDR because of how much brighter it is. And for bonus . Stats!!

Last time I tried (a year ago, I no longer use Netflix in Safari) HDR content in Safari was definitely not the same visual quality as on a HDR TV. I would compare the same titles and check details in shadows and dark backgrounds. It was SDR only. I'll check again to see if they updated it since.

MacBook Pro 16 M1 Max never crashed once when viewing tons of HDR videos on YouTube since launch, then the moment they bring it back the system locked and rebooted after the 2nd video to test with. It happened after finishing a trailer, existing full screen, adjust brightness down, and then when I attempted to scroll down to comments, the touch pad wasn’t working, after 5 seconds or so, it rebooted.
Now, I had not updated to Monterey 12.1, so doing that now. I just didn’t think Apple would allow the system to offer a Safari update that brings back HDR before the actual macOS had been updated to fix the issue, thus allowing the system to crash.
