Cost and value can not be separated.

Now I understand why you have completely different reactions to different people saying the exact same thing. Rhonindk and I both literally said that the extra cost wasn't worth it to us and for some reason you said that's "ok" for him but your response to me was the exact opposite.

Our logic was identical and yet you somehow think we were giving different reasons.

Cost and value are different parameters though. Only a £1000 on its own for a piece of electronic is not too expensive when you compare it with other things people own which are as or more expensive than that.

If spending that money for something is worth for you is a personal opinion. Even TVs these days cost way more than that.

I bought the 8 plus this year and not the X. Not because it’s too expensive but because the hassle of dealing with a first generation product is not worth my time. You see what I mean?

They are not. I mean, if they are then you should be able to answer this question:

"Do you want to spend $12.43?"

I can not answer that question without knowing what it's paying for. But then that's value. You're telling me you have an opinion on that without any other information?

I am an early adopted and I have purchased every iphone. That being said, I decided to go with the 8+ (and yes, I did have the 7+) instead of the X because of the battery life and I did not love the elongated thinner screen (I do watch a lot of videos on my phone). I was also skeptical about face ID. I will have to admit I do get a touch of buyers remorse at time when I see a X... but I am overall very happy with my device. I am planning on doing the X plus in the fall when it is released.

I did mention, in context of electronic devices.

I initially resisted buying it because I wanted to wait until the next generation even though my renewal was up. I've had every iPhone except the 5S and the 7 and decided to just stick with the S versions from here on out. I had a 6s and before the announcement of the X I figured I would get a 7S. In many ways the 8 is a 7S. So I decided to go with the 8 Plus.

While I thought the price of the X was high that wasn't the real deterrent. It was more so that I wanted to wait for the second gen. Ultimately I upgraded to the X because I just don't care for the size of the Plus and I might as well get the latest and greatest vs a regular 7 or 8. For $15 more a month I can keep it a year and get rid of it if I don't like it. (I do) I can see the many different viewpoints regarding this phone and its become quite a polarizing device. Kind of like when the Plus phones first came out.

Holding out for the X+. That's the only reason I didn't get the X this year. Still rocking my 6+, but man has it gotten long in the tooth.

Over the last 10 years I have priced iPhones around $0.75 per day. My 128GB 6S+ has not yet amortized to that yet. Once it does, I will decide on what to do then. I am a bit concerned about the X's longevity to successfully amortize the most expensive iPhone ever.

I wanted the X but couldn’t wait the extra time, because chunks of glass were coming out of my 6S, and the attempted screen replacement didn’t work (it seemed to mess up internal things, and they put the original smashed screen back on). But now that I have my 8 Plus, I’m super happy with it and not in a hurry to upgrade. Nice big screen, does everything I want— everything is smooth and great. No real reason to upgrade. It is possible that I will do the X Plus, but I might sit it out until 2019. I’m not against the changes in the X— as I said, I wanted one. But I’m just not so excited about them that I need to plunk down more money this fall either, when I have a phone I’m perfectly happy with.

I will say that when I finally had the chance to play around with a friend’s X, I was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t really seem significantly smaller. I do use landscape a fair amount, though, so I don’t know— I wish they had kept the dimensions of the X more conducive to that.

I think one needs to determine what features and capabilities can they justify the price point that would benefit them over there current iPhone they are using. As someone who is a tech enthusiast, I appreciate features like stereo speakers, OLED display, 3D Touch, etc. For some, they are entertained by Animoji's or the latest Camera. Its different for everyone, but all relative.

Why won't I buy it? Price. After buying every iPhone so far, I don't see the X justifies the extra $300. There isn't $300 worth of innovations that I feel justify the purchase.

This, and

- Honestly I didn’t get that “gotta have it” feeling while streaming the live keynote in September that I always got watching every iPhone keynote.

- While I think the the size is pretty good, I tried a friends iPhone X and my thumb muscle (whatever ya call it) covers the bottom right part of the screen on the X way more than any iPhone or android phone before. I’d surely have to change my grip I’ve gotten used to for over 10 years.

- In limited use I had slight eye strain from the OLED that I also got from a TV and another android phone both of which I returned.

I’ll wait for the LCD X model if I don’t get the SE2 (depending on that screen).

I didn't want to wait and get caught in the launch madness, so I got an 8+.

Part of my decision was also that I felt there was a lot of new tech in the X and decided that waiting for the S might be a better option.

Also, other than buy outright like I normally do, I went on the IUP as I figured that the money was better in my bank than it was in Apple's and I'm also hoping it might make getting the X Plus this year a little easier.

Ultimately it will be interesting to see if people who didn't purchase the X last year will buy the 2018 version that has the exact same things they didn't like about the original.
this is funny and true. they will say "but this one is different because......." the design will more than likely be the same (with exception of size or two option) the face id won't go away (however it may be -snappier- (still face ID) and the notch will be there. I eagerly await the posts that are titled "i have changed my mindset on the iPhone X+" or whatever a similar model of this years X is called. And as for the price? have you ever seen a newer flagship phone of any company be less than last years model???? How i look at it is these changes apple has made to this years X are the future of their phones. May as well embrace the changes sooner than later (if you want to keep the Eco system for the next however many years). NOW the only way ill "upgrade" from my X next year is if they find a way to put touch ID on the screen (this will be the excuse most will use to say they actually liked last ye. Face ID is something i am not totally sold on but do have to put up with to get all the other amazing features of the X.

I had an 8+ (gave it to my wife) i love it. Its a great phone but in a side by side comparison the screen is just that much worse than the X. The 8+ is an amazing device that is blazing fast and I would be using if the Xs screen wasn't that much better. To sound totally contradictory to the above I actually was not a fan of big phones (the 8+ made me like/able to deal with the plus size however) so the X was a great size for someone like me. At this point i can say that if they release a X+ i probably would stay with the size of the current X.

I didn't get the X ultimately due to the lack of Display Zoom. Price and Notch were considerations because I think the X is priced too high (many disagree) and I am not keen on the notch. However I was all set to give it a chance until I found out Display Zoom was no longer an option. Again a non issue if you have good eyes, I do not.

I ended up buying an 8 after the release of the X. Its highly doubtful the X2.0 will entice me to upgrade after just 1 year and perhaps never if Display Zoom is not an option. Nor am I interested in a plus size phone. Which leaves me with where to go from here? My next phone was supposed to be an SE, perhaps the SE2 will be more to my liking. At any rate my 8 is a good phone and I am in no rush to buy anything.

I see nothing wrong with those who held out for the 2018 offerings. Better to think twice then act than to get something you know you aren't going to be happy with.

Exactly why I got the 8 plus.

I have dry eye syndrome so I would welcome the watery eyes.

Thanks for sharing.

I wonder if that’s the reason an lcd model is rumored for later this year
You probably wouldn't. I came across a description of "snow blindness" which is essentially sunburn of the eyes and the symptoms of snow blindness are remarkably like the effects I experienced on my ex-X and on my current Pixel 2 display. I can tolerate it on my Pixel 2 because an 8 Plus is still the phone I use the most. But I am on the lookout for news on OLED display improvements. I don't suffer as much on a Samsung S8+ display, even though Samsung is the manufacturer of all these displays.

Regarding other remarks that the X feels too much like a beta product, on the contrary, I felt it was a very polished product. My iPhone 6 Plus felt a bit beta and all of the subsequent updates to it were much appreciated as soon as I could afford to upgrade to each one. The 8 Plus therefore feels very refined to me. But I felt like the X could serve me well for two years or more if I could have tolerated the display better. There wasn't much about it I wanted to see changed except perhaps to refine the camera bump a bit so the red eye and dust infiltration would be less of a problem. It also sticks too far out that a case seems like an absolute necessity to me. But when I had it, it worked as I'd hoped it would.

I do think it's very expensive to purchase and repair/insure. It wasn't as appealing a value to me as an 8 Plus, even ignoring the issues I had with the display.

I actually went from the 8+ to X. I convinced myself the X was not for me for the reasons given above. But then when I visited my local Apple store, I was blown away by the X and even with impromptu photos in store could see the 2x camera is better than on the 8+.

So I returned the 8+ just within the 2 weeks and ordered an X. I have no regrets - consider it the best iPhone ever. The Face ID I find more reliable than Touch ID and love the gestures in particularly being able to switch back to previous apps with swipe across bottom of screen. Much more fluid than on previous iPhones. Just my take - the 8+ is also a fine iPhone.
