I really liked the X, but I became underwhelmed after a week of using it. Besides camera and the new screen, to me it wasn’t worth $1100. So I returned it, bought a new iphone 7 from the Apple store, downloaded Bokeh Lens app, and now my pics look just as good if not better than the portrait mode I thought I would miss on the X. Paid $550 for my 7, and I feel happy knowing I don’t have a lease, my phone is unlocked, and that I have a $50 payment every month for everything unlimited through Metro PCs.

Makes the iPhone 7 that much sweeter.

There is no shame in saving your money. But there is in lying to everyone and yourself about how the cheaper option is better, it isn't better, it's just cheaper and possibly higher value.

The advantage of the iPhone X camera was never anything to do with the fake bokeh. Any app you can run on the 7 to improve photos you can also run on the X, but better.

X might be better but not twice better. Not $550 better.

Some are also lying to themselves that the iPhone X is actually worth it. Can't even beat a $550 phone in a speed test. A speed test that mattered to some when iPhone won them all last year.

The only iPhone worth its price is the SE. Not paying $550 for an iPhone with an HD screen and only 2 GB RAM. iOS11 is poorly optimized and this 64-bit era should have a minimum of 4 GB.

SE2 could be a bad purchase considering it will be based on the 7 specs with only 2 GB. Not future-proofed enough. The first iPhone with 4 GB would be better. The X will age just as long as the 7 Plus and 8 Plus.

good for you!no need to post here telling us your 7 is better etc.its your money its your decision,im happy for you!

I Mentioned this before, but iPhone X isn't for everybody. Apple knows this, even if they want to sell you the most expensive model with the largest storage. That's why they have other iPhones in their lineup, knowingly that the iPhone X may not meet everybody's expectations even if they can afford it.

I’m glad I sold my iPhone 7 Plus and bought an iPhone X 255 GB at full price and one for my wife as well. I won’t have to worry about 2 $50 payments every month. I also have both iPhones unlocked as well. I’m also happy to have everything unlimited for both my wife and I and even my son’s iPad Pro under AT&T. Makes both iPhone X that much sweeter. I didn’t buy an app and my portraits look fantastic and stabilization is beautiful on the X and 4K recording at 60 FPS that doesn’t make me miss my iPhone 7 Plus, especially with the nice OLED display. I’m very happy with my purchases and ready to purchase the next new iPhone next year. iPhone X is the better phone for me out of all of them.

Cool, the 7 is a great phone.

Not everyone can afford the X I guess.

This is what you arent getting. Its not about affording for many prople. Its the X simply isnt a better phone. I had the X and returned it for the 8+ because I think the 8+ is a better phone. Full stop. As in id pay more for the 8+ than the X. The X is a worse phone to me. The user experience is worce. Faceid is slower and worse. Screen burn in and viewing angles are worse. The X is a worse phone.

You use the word worse five times in your post when you referenced the iPhone X. And then you stated the iPhone 8 is a better phone. When I hear the word better in comparison, we know that term is subjective based on the user. Everything you said about the iPhone X is not widespread, it's sporadic based on what you're reading on a tech forum. But that doesn't mean that everybody's experience will be the same as yours across the board with the iPhone X. I think both the iPhone 8 and iPhone X are excellent iPhones in their own respect, it's just a matter Of what somebody likes.

I remember the good old days when Apple only made one iPhone. Everybody on here had the “best” iPhone. Then Apple started making different models and the peace and harmony here went out the door...
Isn't it great playing the parts lottery too with all the different models?

I get that they want variety but I feel like they are encroaching on fractured right now.

That’s not an assumption that is very reliable. Plenty of people can afford the X but opt for the 8. The features on the X are so divisive that not everyone is onboard with them yet. You only have to look at the amount of people here who have returned it for the 8 and this is just a small fraction of the user base.

Sure the X is also expensive, but even those who have money can make a judgment on whether a purchase is justifiable.

Looks like you made the right choice. I don't think X is worth $450 more than iPhone 7, it is a better phone and I like some of its feature, but this year I went for the 8+
Eventually their entire lineup will be like X, so no more TouchID, but I'll get used to that. I didn't feel like spending so much for a phone, so I'll wait for an X like version of iPhone to be sold at the usual price point

The price you paid for your 7 is what I paid for my X. This was because I did another two year contract. If that wasn’t an option then I wouldn’t have this phone because I agree with everyone else. This phone is not worth 1100+.

The 7 is a great phone and what people can afford doesn’t really equate to what they value, which is subjective. Some may find more value in a cheaper phone than the more expensive one and buy the cheaper one because of this.

Like some others I always buy my phones outright as I hate leasing/making payments for things. I was thinking about buying a X but decided to wait for reviews and if there were any significant mass defects. Shortly after the X came out my brother gave me his old 128GB iPhone 7 (he upgraded to the X) and it is a great device. Not as fast as the X nor does it have as many of the new features, but I’m finding it a nice enough upgrade from my 6s that I can wait for another year.

OP, congrats on finding a phone that meets your needs and sense of value. The 7 is great and I’m sure it will serve you well!

While this may be true, it is a very poor choice of words. Many people can afford the X but choose the 8 or 7 because they are a solid choice. People with money can also be frugal and simply can not justify the extra expense for the X when there are other choices available for half the price. I understand those choices may not have iOS, but at this point in time it only comes down to user preference. You can have a great experience on a phone with the same specs and more as the X and be happy :)

I completely understand where you are coming from, but lets not get carried away. The camera's are significantly different.
