I was just thinking about my iPhone 7 Plus tonight. It's the jet black edition, and the finish is still in immaculate condition, having always been in a black leather Apple case. And I really do love this phone. Excellent screen size, excellent battery, and Touch ID! I just can't justify an X or even an 8 Plus at this point, I'm just so happy with this phone. But I will be watching what comes out this fall.

Tbh coming from an iPhone 6 and having purchased the X 3 weeks ago (size 256GB) I can ho honestly say this thing is amazing! FaceID has worked flawlessly since day one, so convenient. And the new gestures are easy and intuitive, there is not one single thing that I don’t like! Expensive? Yeah, but so are the other iPhones in comparable size. The iPhone 7 Plus in 256GB is around £200 cheaper than the X. Add a faster processor, a better camera, FaceID, the OLED screen, the smaller footprint (albeit with a less usable area, but small difference imho) and the X is a no brainier?

People are insecure about their purchase decision so they come seeking validation from others.

I don't necessarily disagree, but don't confuse those for who truly are trying to ask for feedback from others based on what their thoughts were for something that they may have purchased that they were unsure of. Its not abnormal.

I did the same thing, sold my X and bought a 7+. I would have gone for an 8+ but the 2 memory options didn't really suit me. 256GB is overkill and it makes the 8+ not that much cheaper an X. I think there a different purchasing logic from those that buy on contract and those that purchase outright.

It makes me realise how much of a poor deal Apple give us in the UK reading your post. A two year contract for the X here is around 4 times more expensive here and that’s for the cheapest deal. You are looking at at least 2 grand by the end of the 24 months. Absolute rip off.

I still am yet to meet anybody who has got an X here. It’s hardly surprising though.

And what is you data plan and cost ??
That’s irrelevant, my mobile phone contract separates the airtime and the device costs.
If I chose an iPhone 8 or 7 or a Samsung, the airtime cost would be the same.

If I buy the phone outright, I would still have to pay the airtime.

I thought we’re talking about the device here?

Isn't it great playing the parts lottery too with all the different models?

I get that they want variety but I feel like they are encroaching on fractured right now.

Lottery?
It appears apple is trying to cover all price ranges.
6 series - parents with multiple children or people that want a smart phone but doesn’t want to spend a lot of money
7 series - want a better camera and faster processor and has an extra $100
8 series - latest and greatest of the “ traditional “ style, better camera and screen
X - one of the most popular I see is, the person willing to pay $50 more for the X than the 8+ with more storage, willing to better manage their storage, want to step down in size from their previous +, and love the screen and camer.

Put more people in iPhone, sell more accessories, iTunes and apps and entrench people into the ecosystem.

One thing to consider, the US is one of the least expensive places to by an iPhone. So offering less expensive alternatives around the world, more people can enjoy the iPhone.

It is relevant as the deals for sim only differ greatly from those linked to a device on 02. What you save in one area they usually take in another.

I am on 02 30gb (25gb+5GB bolt on) for £26pm Sim only. Not much difference between your deal I guess. At the time there was nothing on a refresh that could match this.

I really liked the X, but I became underwhelmed after a week of using it. Besides camera and the new screen, to me it wasn’t worth $1100. So I returned it, bought a new iphone 7 from the Apple store, downloaded Bokeh Lens app, and now my pics look just as good if not better than the portrait mode I thought I would miss on the X. Paid $550 for my 7, and I feel happy knowing I don’t have a lease, my phone is unlocked, and that I have a $50 payment every month for everything unlimited through Metro PCs.

Makes the iPhone 7 that much sweeter.

Don't blame you. iPhone x is overpriced. I don't want to even think about how much Apple is going to charge for the iPhone x plus.

The hardware and software just isn't worth the $1000 price tag.

Is that £43 p/m for the contract?

Was there an upfront cost too?

Edit: just read your other posts. £43 per month for the device plus £36 per month for the sim. wow I currently pay £30 per month for my contract including the iPhone. Sorry I couldn’t justify £79 per month for a phone, I don’t use enough data for that expense.

What iPhone do you have?
I use my phone continuously for work and tethering so the cost is justified for me!

No offense, but why does everyone feel like they need to create a whole thread about their phone purchasing decision?

They don't have to but I appreciate hearing other peoples opinions on topics.

I considered doing the same thing but I'm leasing my X. I really like the X but the 6s,7 series are still amazing options.

In my opinion, no phone is worth $1100. I cap out around $450, so when I can get an 8 for around that price, that's when I'll upgrade from my 6S!

I just switched to metro pcs with my factory unlocked 6s Plus on iOS 11. Can’t get visual voicemail anymore and no new voicemail notifications. Have tried everything nothing works. They are telling me because my 6s plus too old. I had T-Mobile before switching everything worked fine. Metro is owned by Tmo so how can this be true.

it is sorta like, "you know what you know" I have upgraded my iphone at least every 2 years... sometimes every year! I bought the GF a OnePlus5 and to be honest with you, I was more impressed with this little company then I expected to be.... I am going to wait till I upgrade my iphone one more iteration and then I am out of the Apple Eco-system!

Just received the 8 as a replacement for my 6 as a work phone recently - and I'm really glad I did not have to pay for it because I never would. #donglelive is real - yes the headphone jack removal makes everything worse by 100%. The speed difference between the 6 and the 8 is incremental for most of my tasks and the only reason for me to move forward with an 8 is future proofing due to increasing CPU demands of upcoming iOS'es which Apple gives you no option not to upgrade, only to do it "later". Otherwise I would have been perfectly happy with the 6 for as long as it would last me - actually the 6 had the madness of offering a 16GB option which I had to deal with, but that is another topic :)

Apples phones get bigger, more fragile, more expensive and less "physically" useful with each generation. Somewhere between the iPhone 5SE and the 6 was the pinnacle of iPhone device design. They should focus on getting the important basics right - make my live easier by not forcing me to worry about battery live (make it last much longer instead of adding more performance each generation). Water proof is good, yes, but make it sturdy enough so I don't need a case, keep it pocketable (the X isn't, the 8 just about). Remove the camera bump or make the device thicker. Don't make me use more devices that then also need charging > bring back the audio jack (they never will). USB instead of lightning now it could at least charge my phone on a new MacBook without yet another special cable! This all used to be so much simpler!

PS: Less useful and more expensive is sadly also true for their laptops. The MacBookPro from the previous generation offering MagSave, SD card reader, HDMI, USB was basically perfect - from there onwards, ports were removed, keyboards flattened, battery live shortened, mag save retired - I literally had 3 instances in the last two weeks where this feature alone save my current laptop because someone was tripping over the cable! A consequence of the new mac books is that my company needs to purchase additional monitor stands with compatible ports for every developer who now receives one of these just to resolve cable connectivity issues - it's absolute madness for a pro/business device to create such disruption in an update cycle.

The hardware and software just isn't worth the $1000 price tag.

I predict the iPhone X 6.5+ to start at approximately $1,200. It likely will be offered at 128 GB or 256 GB. (Maybe 64GB).
