Update on my trial:

Have had my iphone since day 1, done a few jailbreaks, have always been on AT&T.
My last jailbreak was on 1.1.1 and was fun for a while but seemed a bit too unstable so when 1.1.2 came out I did a stock upgrade, kept it till 1.1.3, again did a stock upgrade.

Last night I successfully downgraded 1.1.3 to 1.1.1
repaired the baseband to the original 1.1.1 and virginized my phone.

I then successfully jailbroke to the "soft 1.1.3" upgrade with no problems.

(this whole process was surprisingly easy compared to what i've read on here and other sites)

My concerns basically fall under EDGE. I've read that EDGE is suppose to work but the "E" icon is missing. Well for me, I don't think my edge is working. Websites loading without WiFi are rediculously slow, if they load at all.

I've installed the 1.1.3 Tweaks to no avail

I can live with out the Locater feature for now (my hybrid maps feature works fine, satilite views with the street names are visible)

Anyone feel like their EDGE isn't working?

How on earth do I get my phone working again? I have 1.1.3 up and running with installer installed, but i cant actually connect to ATT towers.

If it loads (at all, even if it's slow) when wifi is off then EDGE is functioning.

Also you can fix the location feature by installing "Navizon GPS," running it once, and then running the location feature in Google Maps, all should work correctly.

ok,
so i updated to 1.1.3 (without jailbreak) on my ipod touch. i also bought the 20 dollar applications. now if i want to jailbreak the ipod, i have to go back to 1.1.1 and do that whole process. My question is, if i do the whole jailbreak process, will the 20 bucks i spent go down the drain or will they upload themselves once i plug the jailbroken 1.1.3 back into my computer. thanks

I don't know why people paid for the 20 software when you could of gotten it for free using installer app, by adding the source "applerepo.com"

The best site i've found to help you bring back to life your iphone after bricking it was:

http://iphone.unlock.no/#how-to-downgrade-1.1.2-or-1.1.3

And for those people that are getting the unkown error (1) i have the solution for you.

It is very important you get the timing right on the DFU Mode. When your at itunes with it saying you need to restore, press both sleep/power and home button until it disappears from the itunes library. After it disappears hold the power button for 1-2 seconds more. then release, while holding just the home button.

In a matter of a few seconds you will see the iphone show up again in itunes. IF YOU SEE A PICTURE ON THE IPHONE SAYING TO ATTACH TO ITUNES YOU HAVE DONE IT WRONG. RESTART THE PHONE AND TRY IT AGAIN! THE SCREEN SHOULD REMAIN BLACK.

It took me all day today to figure it out. No need to downgrade to itunes 7.5. The only thing that 7.6 does, is affect you from upgrading from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 by messing with the oktoprep patch. If you want to go back to 7.5 so you can upgrade back to 1.1.2 you can find the old version of itunes at:

http://mac.oldapps.com/itunes.php

Any more questions, i'll be happy to help.

I can't downgrade to 1.1.1. For some reason I am getting an INVALID SIM CARD MESSAGE and after following the instructions to downgrade the phone never reboots into the springboard. Why am I getting this invalid SIM message? What should I do now?

If you can downgrade it to 1.1.1 you need to downgrade the baseband too. the link i provided above will help you with it.

The sleeper repository fixes my EDGE problem, so I think I'll stay on 1.1.3 now. Only thing that I would really like to have that I already don't is the Maps location feature.

Install Navizon GPS and run it once... It should restore all functionality to Google Maps.

PowerPC Macs

Does anyone know when we might be getting a version that works with PowerPC Macs (PowerBook G4 in my case) as Nate says he's hoping someone might send him the binaries... although I suppose I can wait until I'm back at work and use my Intel Mac.

Also, has the original mac version sorted out the audio error bug? - the warning about this issue on hackthatphone.com seems to have been removed.

I have an unlocked 1.1.1 with Anysim. I am using t-mobile. Right now this new jailbreak seems too complicated, I will stick to my phone as it is. If in the future a jailbreak is released for 1.1.3 with new baseband, I will use Onesim to revert the changes and lock my phone, upgrade through itunes to newest firmware, jailbreak, and unlock again, having my phone functional at 100% with the rest of the features.

My situation is rather simple, I've a UK iPhone, which has been jailbreaked and hacktivated, to continue to use an O2-UK Simplicity Sim Card.

As of now, I'm running 1.1.2 jailbreaked with my O2-UK Sim Card. I'm tempted to install 1.1.3. I know the UK iPhones cannot be unlocked, which is not a concern to me, I don't care if I have a boatloader 4.6, because I don't want to unlock it. I just want to keep it activated once I've completed the 1.1.3 Upgrade through Nate True's method.

Does the 1.1.3 upgrades the basebands for UK iPhones as well? I haven't been able to find a clear answer to this. There is a post earlier in this thread that explained how to have the latest baseband, and 1.1.3 jailbreaked, but no unlocking done to it. But I'm not sure whether it'd automatically activate my iPhone, so that I can pop a O2-UK Sim in it.

Pretty much, what I want to do is, have a 1.1.3 jailbreaked with the latest baseband, and having my phone activated, but still use an O2-UK Sim which obviously is not the O2-UK Sim that came with my iPhone.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

Nate released a native mac 1.1.3 jailbreak, which works like a charm...

Now.. as you may or may not know, the current 1.1.3 jailbreak works by replacing the old system files with the new ones directly, and as such, don't upgrade your baseband! If you are running an unlocked phone this is a good thing, but if you are a legitimate subscriber and want to upgrade then you want the new baseband so that things like google maps "locate me" work properly.

Since the fls and eep baseband files for the new bb are not currently out yet, you'll need to follow this method to get 1.1.3 with the new baseband. This also works for otb 1.1.3 users that wish to jailbreak, and is fully compatible with both Macs and PCs.

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE IF YOU HAVE AN UNLOCKED PHONE! THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO UNLOCKS THAT WORK WITH THE NEW BASEBAND!!!

Step 1) Download the 1.1.1 restore ipsw files from apple:

1.1.1 Restore Image

Step 2) Upgrade your phone to 1.1.3 using iTunes. This will install 1.1.3 on your phone and upgrade your baseband.

Step 3) Follow the first two steps from this tutorial here to downgrade your phone to 1.1.1 and jailbreak and activate it. Skip step 3 as we do NOT want to downgrade the baseband. You can ignore the invalid sim error messages; these are normal and due to the updated baseband being used with 1.1.1. Because of this, you wont be able to activate with itunes, so follow the tutorial!

http://www.hackthatphone.com/113/iphone_downgrade_113.html

Step 4) Once you've got 1.1.1 jailbroken and activated, follow the steps on Nate True's blog to upgrade to a jailbroken 1.1.3:

http://cre.ations.net/blog/post/iphone-113-jailbreak-released

Step 5) Once you're in 1.1.3, add http://sleepers.net/iphonerepo to your installer.app (Click on sources --> add) and then install the packages under "Tweaks (1.1.3)".

That's it, you're done! You now have a 1.1.3 iphone with the new baseband, and not some hacked up 1.1.3/old bb monster :p

here is the post by appleguru .. is that safe enough to follow, resulting in an automatically activated iPhone?

also, once upgraded through iTunes to 1.1.3 to have the latest baseband, i've read that it'll keep on giving invalid sim message, would that go away for sure once, it's gone through the process of downgrading and upgrading to 1.1.1->1.1.2->1.1.3 soft update?

cheers everyone.

Too many people have bricks with this method. I'll stay on the sidelines for this one.

I bought it to use as a PHONE ... and if that doesnt function then what is the point.

I played the jailbreak game from the beginning, until i had to return my first phone for screen issues.

OTB 1.12 - upgraded to 1.13, and ummm, I'll play my DS and PSP - and happily have an iPhone that works as intended.

Ditto.... any help for us would be greatly appreciated!

No. He subsequently posted this was broken - you can't make phone calls with jailbroken firmware with 1.1.3 bb.. I was nearly going to follow it too - no idea why he posted this process without mentioning it was flawed!

Right?! WDT?

I am confused.

How come it is called 1.1.3 jail breaker but you have to start with a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 pre-jail broken phone?

Maybe it is semantics, but to me, it would be appropriately named if I could start with a pristine 1.1.3 and then jail break it.

No mater I don't have the iPhone, I am waiting for version 2 and will keep it pristine anyway.

Done all the unlocking too, in mine the edge settings didn't hold at all and I couldn't setup any mail accont at all, among other bizarre issues... The phone part was ok, but I think it's better to wait until this issues are fixed, like they were on 1.1.1.
Then I downgrade it (again) to 1.1.1., with the restoration and all, did the jailbreak, and for my surprise, the phone was UNLOCKED right away, with no need to run anysim, don't have any idea why this happened, dod you?
(Issues aside, the moving icons are fantastic... :)

You guys should really wait for the real release. This method sucks, and you dont even get full functionality.

True but at least it gives people the option of trying 1.1.3 out and not screw up your baseband.. If they want to..

By try out you mean the icon moving? Thats about the only feature that works from 1.1.3. Hell, your ringtones dont even work unless you download them from the net and replace them. Not to mention, you cant use phone lock either... doesnt work ;)

I don't get it.

I can't believe that people go thru this much trouble of downgrading the iphone and doing all these risky steps.

Such a mix of results with some things not working but a few having zero problems and the unlocked iphones basically bricking.

For what?
Are all those apps that good that you risk bricking it or at a minimum being without a phone for several hours or days?

Why not wait until the new SDK is released and get nice apps that are certified to work without all this risk?

I don't get it, but heck, more iBricks for my Brick wall out back.

Ok, I successfully did he jailbreak and updated from a jailbroken 1.1.2 OTB.
After that I went to installer and uninstalled all of my apps since they were not appearing on my homescreen. Then I try to re-install some of them and they don't work?! Why? Some of the main ones I really want are SendSong and MobileScrobbler. Is anybody else with a jailbroken phone stuck with the custom ringtones?

Yes that and the other improvements, generally feels nipper I reckon (makes sense CPU is clocked higher in this version).

I went via 1.1.2 and my ringtones worked without any patches.
Google locate works after you use locateMe.
Webclip links on the springboard are cool - esp to create speed dials.
Fixed the phone lock with a patch from sleepers.net/iphonerepo.

Things currenly outstanding which aren't working:
- Hybrid google maps mode
- International numbers are converted to names
